Did you open a new account? If yes, then it was probably blocked due to some level of evil associated with the IP. In the error message there is a payment process which lifts the ban on posting. I'm guessing the units of evil associated with your area was lower when you registered this account or you changed location. Theymos explains it more here; When you register, the IP that you used when you submitted the registration form is used to calculate your evilness. The more frequently this IP or its neighbors were banned, the more evil is associated with your account. The amount of evil associated with an IP decays slowly over time, but the amount of evil associated with an account does not. You must pay or be manually whitelisted to enable posting on one of these "banned" accounts. Here are some stats: Evil | % new users | 0 | 53 | 0-1 | 35 | 1-10 | 4.4 | 10-20 | 0.80 | 20-50 | 2.2 | 50-100 | 1.3 | 100+ | 2.9 |
Currently each unit of evil requires a payment of 4023 satoshi. You only need to pay something if you have 1 or more, though.

I tried to make a couple of posts to the main bitcoin discussion. I am using a VPN, but the first time I tried positing my VPN was actually switched off, so I'm not sure what's going on.
I never had a problem posting before.

What's the error message you receive? That might make it a little easier to figure out whats going on here. You've already registered, and made a few posts, and using a VPN on the forum is fine. So, I guess the question would be; is it this account that you were trying to post with, but got blocked?

If you're saying that you're getting blocked when you don't use VPN then it's probably your ISP doing the blocking.

I'm not saying and not accusing you of creating too many accounts. Fact:In general, IP Addresses can record location information, devices, websites that you visit up to anywhere. But precisely if you use a VPN site that you enter the more clearly visible your IP address from the server it is definitely connected to you.But if you have detected or been VPN blacklisted, it is very difficult for you to do and enter any website. When you are in the process of using VPN, it is certain that the data you type is overstepping hundreds of ports, In general: Most network administrators block (port) the most commonly used VPN users, instead they are messy VPN users when accessing VPN networks.

Was the block caused by CloudFlare? It's possible that the keyword you put was blocked for security reasons. Example: Sorry, you have been blocked You are unable to access bitcointalk.org Screenshot: https://www.mocacinno.com/screencaps/cloudflare.png ( source) If not, like other people asked, what was the error?

If you could, post a picture of the exact error message you are getting or a link to it. AFAIK, there are no keywords which are prohibited, NSFW language is against the rules, but are not automatically blocked. There was a down time on the forum a few days ago, the server was slow and it was difficult to access some sections. Could this have coincided with the time you had issues? Are you still experiencing them?

I sometime find that sites are blocked when using public WiFi. It's easy to circumvent this. I use a Tor window in the Brave browser.

Is anybody else having this problem?
I had the same problem today. After much persuasion, a friend decided to enter the crypto world, so I showed him today how to open btc wallet, how to send and receive btc and finally wanted to help him to register at this forum. After registration, when my friend tried to make his first post in life on this forum, he received warning that he can't post on the forum because his P is blocked, because he is on the ''evil list'' and if he wants to ublock his account he have to pay some btc amount. Of course he gave up immediately, and this was also his beginning and a definitive end to the crypto world. I don't think I have chance now to bring him back to the crypto, ever. Idea that someone who has never sent a single satoshi in his life and does not know how it works, and how to buy or send bitcoin at all, has to pay some satoshi to be able to post in this forum at all is definitely not good and so we will completely refuse some people from crypto which is a tragedy that should not be allowed. I feel very sad because of it.

I mean.. It's 2019. Bitcointalk is already using cloudflare-- why not remove evil ip fees for database IP's/IP's that have already been used before, and simply keep them for the IP's of banned accounts + tor exit nodes? Or am i misunderstanding here that database IP's are in fact not detected as evil IP's by default? I think i've read somewhere that this is/was the case, and i also think that most phone networks (3G/4G) in countries such as India are detected as datacenter IP's (as opposed to it being residential ones.), which might cause unnecessary "Evil IP" fees for a lot of newbies?

It's your opinion. I have been pushing my friend, who is very skeptical toward crypto for a whole year to get involved and to try and when I finally succeed what happened? My friend registered his account on the forum and when he tried to make first post here, we realized that his account is blocked and on the black list (evil list) and only way to unblock him is to pay some fee in btc. Of course, he said that no way he will pay for the ''right'' to write on this forum, it's stupid and funny for him. Bitcointalk forum just lost one user but I think it will be one of many if admins don't solve this issue. I don't plan to invite anybody else on this forum. I learned my lesson today hard way.

This is the issue I have heard before from people who wanted to register, but they gave up because of this 'evil IP' How can this be evil IP if they used home network and never registered before on Bitcointalk forum. I am not talking about India, but Europe. It is obvious that this system has serious faults, and new people can't register and have to pay the price.... How are we going to handle with this in next bull run?

@dkbit98 What are the chances that such thing would happen to a user that was never banned before! I didn't see many people complaining about it anyway. If your ISP is distributing ips dynamically and you were too unlucky and got an evil ip, then I believe restarting your router and getting another ip will fix the problem.

If you are using those free VPNs then chances are those IP addresses being provided already have some units of evil on them. They don't change the IP addresses they are using that is why people registering from it and got banned have piled up the units of evil on that IP address. But if you can't post while your VPN is off maybe your ISP is providing you a Dynamic IP address and every once in a while the IP address being provided to you is the one that has units of evil on it.

To overcome Ip Blocking I usually use VPN or can change the sim card provider if I use the internet from Sim Card. The reason IP is blocked is because the Public IP is the same as other people when they want to register. But if you don't want to use VPN and don't want to bother, you can pay the Fee set to open the Blocked IP, It's safer and more legal.

Agree, I think so too that paying the fee in btc is the only way to unblock your IP address/account to start posting on this forum. I also encountered this issue the first time I made my first account here way back 2016 then I tried using a VPN and it fixed the issue. Only theymos can decide about it. Well its not our fault if we are using the IP address which is banned here in the forum, it is randomly selected by our ISP. You can restart your router until you get a new IP which is allow here.
