There were reports of Cointelegraph's Facebook account being unreachable and many of us guessed many reasons for that but now it's confirmed that the Facebook account of Cointelegraph, one of the popular crypto news site was actually blocked by Facebook. They don't know the real cause but facebook has on it's terms that they may block anyone that promotes online real money. The Facebook page is now unlocked and visitable.

This occurred more than a month already. At first, various theories were swirling around whether it was just a glitch or other problems but then it was indeed an action coming from Facebook itself that blocked the news' site. However, even with this finding and clarification, it is still unclear what the reasons for such action. Cointelegraph's Facebook page has several hundreds of thousands of followers. They will have to shift to Twitter or somewhere else to continue monitoring Cointelegraph's news.

They should definitely block Libra then . But for real this makes me somewhat conspiracy theorist and wondering if they might block anything with enough authority in this space that they see as a threat
to libra just by being critical to it or in their eyes spreads fud from it.

We can't really know Facebook's agenda here, or they're just following terms and conditions in their platform and did not intend to block Cointelegraph specifically. There are no evidences that proves it is because of Libra, but theories are always there. It's not also impossible that it is because of Libra, but we can only speculate as of now. They may want to censor other crypto-related pages in preparation for their own cryptocurrency.

I know Facebook Cointelegraph was blocked 1 month ago but I don't know what the reason is, but if Facebook prohibits the promotion of digital money then what about Libra which is said to be released next year ?? I can't believe Facebook itself will issue digital coins but the ban on blocking is still happening.

Lets assume and speculate maybe Facebook doesn’t like Cointelegraph spreading FUD to their platform. We all know that Libra is on hot seat these months, probably this is a simple form of news blockout.

I'm not sure why this is the case.

Honestly, I can't think of a reason why FB, who is trying to step foot into the crypto space themselves, would ban an influential account like this. It's probably not even something that is due to a tightening in regulatory stances or anything like that, since Coindesk and others are still running without issues.

Very strange. And I would suggest people stop speculating until sources actually come out with confirmed answers.

Probably just a rumor if you ask me. Facebook is surely not known for being fast on customer service (you don't believe, go try contacting support, unless its a paid service they won't get back to you so fast). So I don't see how the account was blocked and unblocked so quickly.

More likely Cointelegraph themselves put the account on hold temporarily or it got blocked by unauthorized access, like happens to me a lot.

The account is unblocked now if it was really block so I don't think its still relevant to discuss it.
If they are block with without reasonable cause, we would have known by the announcement of cointelegraph but we haven't read any in their site.

Actually I only follow their official site (https://cointelegraph.com/) and they are actually my favorite site in terms of crypto news.
It was blocked but now unblock, let us not speculate that much, everything is alright now.

Maybe Cointelegraph hits on Facebook issues then they took hit personally. Well I guess that's a shamed for Mark being too sensitive on the matter at hand. We know all how good Cointelegraph in sharing news about crypto and its related news. That's how facebook roll? So what if libra launches anyone who defy them will be gone?

That page is big for cointelegraph. Having 700k likes and followers, they won't allow that to vanish without any reasons. Welp, I agree that there's nothing to discuss about it anymore. For whatever reasons did the facebook management blocked their page, it's no longer our jobs to know it. They have alternative social media pages that we can follow like their twitter and the main website. It's good that they are into different platforms so whenever they will meet this situation again, their followers can look into the other social medias they handle.

I think first it was Google who blocked a lot of crypto related websites if I'm not mistaken. I forgot the reason why the block though, perhaps is big G's algorithm or something. But Facebook blocking Cointelegraph? Does it has something to do with them having a hard stance against Libra? If it is then it doesn't look good because they are curbing it, what happen to free speech?

I guess there is some glitch or something on why Facebook suddenly block Cointelegraph's Facebook account or maybe something else. All we can do is speculate or wait to find out the real reason behind the blocking of the said account. I myself, think it's just a mistake on their part, or it was a system generated apps that block account that looks suspicious.

I thought cointelegraph facebook page is still blocked. In my opinion, its not a big deal cause even in a user account it also happens. I think Facebook requested a verification something like that to prove who really owns the page. Just like what happened to my account several months ago, got temporarily locked and needed to confirm my identity. Maybe, they followed the rules or steps given to them to take it back.

Do you think everything is so clear?

After all, it is obvious that blocking for such reasons has no basis, and therefore will cause a certain resonance among the crypto community and beyond, which will lead to a boycott of Facebook to a certain extent, which in turn will lead to the account having to be unblocked, while people will remain unpleasant after the situation. I do not think that the FB is so short-sighted.

I've been looking for that informations. But Cointelegraph's like banned was banned with reason publishing an articel about "Cryoto and sex". Following that articel, seems like Cointelegraph has violating policy facebook on "Sex". I don't thing crypto will be a reason for that to being competitors libra. other reinforcing things, the account instagram Cointelegraoh no get a warn or banned such on pages facebook, so it's clear about publishing an articel related "Crypto and sex".
