Greetings, Forum. Relatively soon I will have the leverage to rally thousands of people in the digital art & fantasy industry. With a large community, it is easier to create an original product or reinvent an existent one, but better, or simply start a brand. Ideas range from creating a therapeutic game to more "business-alike" platforms like dating within the niche, marketplace etc.
Let's start a discussion on how blockchain technology could work within the art sphere.

I might be myopic in my opinion concerning your concept on how blockchain can be of help to Art industry but i dont think i am entirely clueless. The blockchain can help the art industry in the area of transactions handling, monitor how the art product are been displayed and delivered with good blockchain tracking transaction ID. You can enter into the bitcointalk art contest at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193860.0 it is for those that love art works.

Well currently we have some art being auctioned off in the "Auctions" section of the forum, where some artists have done some works and are selling them. Some may be listed in the "Goods" section as well.
How exactly is blockchain going to be in your project? Are you going to sell artwork for bitcoin/altcoins or using blockchain as your source material for ideas to be put on the canvas?
I mean this is a pretty intriguing niche. You are talking about fantasy art, dating - these things dont come together and at the current scenario the Collectibles like Kialara, Satori Rolls, Minted coins are having the highest demand in this forum.

Really a great idea for Art industry to take part in the Blockchain tech. I've seen some ICO projects with this type of idea but I'm not sure if any if them made it. There's an Auction section on this forum that many members have done trades of their artwork.

Many of us exaggerate the possibilities that Blockchain can offer for life. No one can deny the role of this technology in financial terms and how it has been able to conduct transactions without a third party, but its capabilities are still limited with respect to other areas. The arts need a third party expert to make sure that the arts are accurate, genuine or not, and someone to evaluate their real value. Blockchain's role will be limited to transparency and facilitating the sale, purchase and registration of ownership.

I think it can be beneficial for the Art community to link certificates of authenticity to a smart contract or to record it on the Blockchain. So every time it moves from one person to the next, the ownership can be recorded or the certificate can be validated by the potential buyer. This will help to prevent fake certificates to be issued and also to track the previous owners of the piece of Art to build a immutable history of it's journey, from owner to owner. Do you think this will work?

Agree, The blockchain application in the field of art is only for the certifications, thus to avoid counterfeiting or possession of stolen goods. If you search for "Andy Warhol" it will show you a good use case. Thousands of serigraphs circulate with dubious certificates and unclear provenance. Since blockchain is a technology for storing and transmitting information in a secure environment, it can contribute significantly to boosting buyers' confidence in the market, and it doesn't have to be necessarily 'decentralized'. Near the same with the blockchain and the automotive industry by the way.

Usage of word blockchain is insanely a lot, I see blockchain everywhere in everything. People use this word to make things innovative and put blockchain where there is really no need of it. Personally the only way I think about ART and blockchain is the way I look correlation between gold and blockchain. Blockchain technologies can bring more transparency and security to the trading of artworks. This usage idea came to my mind because of famous arts and it's also beneficial for new painters who sell their paints via ebay or local auctions and etc, this way buyer will feel much more confident that he owns real one and stealing of it won't be beneficial for anyone because of records available in blockchain.

There are plenty of art-type projects where there is cash contained within a cryptographic art piece.
You have probably seen the media coverage of a few prominent examples.
What about if you have a similar game that teaches the basics of cryptography, and provides cryptographic art images to crack with their new skill.
After cracking the images, players would be rewarded with project tokens which will be provided by sponsored projects.

This will help to prevent fake certificates to be issued and also to track the previous owners of the piece of Art to build a immutable history of it's journey, from owner to owner. Do you think this will work? This can be useful, but it doesn't prevent all cases of fraud and also has some downsides. These certificates still require a trusted third party that issues them, so someone can create a fake certification service that issues fake certificates, and it will all boil down to which service people would trust. Or a trusted service can go rogue and issue certificate for a fake piece of art. And then we have problems - what if the owner of such certificate gets hacked or loses his private key? If you implement some system to re-issue certificates, it would open window for more fraud.

The blackchain hype is kinda dying. But I’m one of those who are still waiting for blockchain to become better integrated with other technologies, which will allow companies and their products to survive and thrive. There aren’t much many new cases but I’m actually wanting to see more usable solutions.

The blackchain hype is kinda dying. It is relatively new and being used in many Fintech startups and established companies. Banks are putting it to good use but the hype is not dying. What did die out is the ICO craze which is a good riddance. And its "blockchain" not blackchain. But I’m one of those who are still waiting for blockchain to become better integrated with other technologies, which will allow companies and their products to survive and thrive. Blockchain may be one way but it is not the only way. What the OP wants is unclear because they never came back to address the replies on this thread and what "Art" is actually talking about. There aren’t much many new cases but I’m actually wanting to see more usable solutions. You just haven't been looking at the proper places to find them out. Development is occurring. Nobody is going to personally mail you about development on blockchain by different companies. You have to seek it out.

Hey! No worries, I am still here, lurking in the dark.
Thank you to everyone for your answers. You just confirmed my thoughts in regard to security, transparency and ownership. What I really wanted was an input from a different perspective/niche. That's it. People in the art industry place their answers on certain knowledge, people in the blockchain tech industry place their answers on certain knowledge too. I wanted to see if both sides "tie" somewhere. Although the community I've been building on Instagram is not very different from others (yet), the growing opportunity to leverage a "big knot of people" is something I shouldn't miss. We are talking business here. I could build a simple store and sell products, or I could do something bigger, innovative. The examples I threw at the end of the original post were shots in the dark.

Pardon my choice of words, your idea is more or less re-invented. I have seen several Art projects here that couldn't make it to limelight. What are the reality of this one making it? Please, endeavour to look deeply, and seek for collaboration with real Art platforms and market places. Also, possibly involved renowned artists for collaboration. With this, you would gain public trust. Above all, be original and open to scrutiny from investors and the general public.

Maybe in the future, we will see some art galleries for Bitcoin. The problem with this business is to send a piece of art from a country to another. It would be nice to have a site with art live auctions. But I'm not sure if a lot of people from the bitcoin environment are really interested in spend their bitcoins in art.
What about you guys, have you ever buy a piece of art with bitcoin?

One is to verify if the art is real, however there seems to be a gap between how verifying the physical object can work, it cannot be a QR code because that can be easily copied, image recognition has to be very detailed and thorough, doesn’t seem as scalable or can be done by a smartphone.
Another seems to be breaking an art piece into smaller and investable pieces where there’s a 3rd party guarantee its connection, much like all asset backed tokens out there.
Have you heard any other applications?
