We all know that ICO is an acronym that means Initial Coin Offering, which is how funds are raised for a new cryptocurrency offering. It is a fundraising mechanism in which new projects sell their underlying crypto tokens in exchange for bitcoin and ether. It’s somewhat similar to an Initial Public Offering (IPO) in which investors purchase shares of a company. ICOs are a relatively new phenomenon but have quickly become a dominant topic of discussion within the blockchain community. Many view ICO projects as unregulated securities that allow founders to raise an unjustified amount of capital, while others argue it is an innovation in the traditional venture-funding model. While, IEO's An initial exchange offering (IEO) allows companies to sell tokens to investors to raise capital. This makes them similar to initial coin offerings (ICOs), but there are a few key differences. It is a new approach to crypto-banking that is catching the attention of ICO investors around the world. IEOs can provide many benefits compared to ICOs. They offer greater security for users, improved transparency, bring about a fairer system that can benefit newcomers, and give users a sense that it is a reliable banking system.

the only difference is the middle letter. ICOs are scamming people by calling themselves initial "coin" offering and IEOs are scamming people by doing the same exact thing while calling themselves initial "exchange" offering.
the end result is exactly the same with different speeds at which they dump and exit. as IEOs are already supported by and listed on an exchange they can dump and run away faster.

Move this thread to service discussion. It's not really about bitcoin.

ICO's are initial coin offerings that don't really need an outside payment processor, they are great for crowdfunding but they've died down in recent years due to IEO's being so successful.

IEO's are a blend of an ICO working with an exchange, instead of the ICO holding and processing payments themselves, they instead use an exchange to process all their payments and make sure it's all good, minimalizing risk and then also leveraging the exchange for extra investor attention.

You got it absolutely correct. The only difference is that C and E in between. Otherwise, they are both the same bananas. They are actually both coin offerings, the other one offered to the open public from the project itself while the other one is offered through the exchanges. There are tinier differences such as ICO coins might not be listed at all while IEO coins are going to be listed immediately right after the offering, ICOs are offered in an absolutely free market where a scam is offered alongside a much lesser scam while IEOs are somehow screened by a third party which is the exchange, and so forth. But all these differences could really be insignificant.

You defined both things (ICO & IEO) here clearly and with that let me say that the only big difference between the two is that while  in ICO the whole fundraising activities are usually done by the people behind the project, IEO is done under the supervision of the exchange contracted by the project, hence it is called as Initial Exchange Offering. An ICO then can later on transformed itself into an IEO when it is bringing the project to the exchange which accepted it. We are all assuming that the exchanges are doing the vetting or selection process credibly but this is not always the case and that is why many are looking at IEO as just the same dog with a different name. Can we say then is a lesser chance for an IEO project to do an exit scam? Maybe a little but nothing really substantial that we can say there is a guarantee for success. In other words, we must always be careful regardless if we are dealing with an ICO or an IEO.

Actually there is no big difference between ICO's and IEO's since both are selling their token/coins. Only the process has a slight different but the end result is the same you will still be holding the coin/token that you bought. Lastly, most of ICO's and IEO's are scams. Only a few are legit and among those legit there are also failing projects. So this industry is very risky and the best way to choose a coin to buy is by looking at the existing coin in the coinmarketcap top 50.

it means that scammers will more easily deceive investors by slisting their garbage project into exchange, because IEO is more trusted than ICO.
But for large exchanges the likelihood will be very small, because scammers will not want to pay large fees only for listings in large markets. Scammers only do IEO on cheap exchanges and do not require conditions to bother them. But the most important thing is research first.

We can more trust in IEO because, it will be directly be listed in an exchange, in ICO, it took them months or year before it happens, some of them does not list their coins and run away with their money that  has been raised. In IEO we may see the exchange that they will be listed right away.

I don't think we should generalise this. Of course that the vast majority of ICOs and IEOs have been proved to be scams, but there were some projects that made a good job with the raised funds. Look at Ethereum, it wouldn't be here without the initial funding. Another case is Stratis: they have raised what.. $750k? And they have built premium blockchain products from the ground up. That's what I name a successful ICO. When a project usually has a crowdfunding target of tens of millions it is a red flag for me. Usually this kind of financing is done through private investment, not crowdfunding.

Of course there are many people who believe in IEO, especially in large exchanges that are very popular, such as the example of Binance doing IEO KAVA and this has been much sought after for investors, even many who do not get involved in participating,

I am sure scamer will not be able to do a bit if IEO is on a large exchange, but scamer is always looking for a small exchange to get funds after it is left.

IEOs can provide many benefits compared to ICOs. They offer greater security for users, improved transparency, bring about a fairer system that can benefit newcomers, and give users a sense that it is a reliable banking system.

IEOs are generally considered safer because the user is no longer (fully) responsible for making sure that the coin isn't a scam. The exchange that is hosting the token sale does it. Of course, everyone willing to invest in a new altcoin should 100% research it themselves and know as much as possible about it before they commit to it. However, scammers tend to be rather convincing at times, and some users do not know how to recognize a scam, so if they have a trusted exchange that says that the project is fine, that is good enough for them. Now, just because the exchange has given the green light to a project doesn't necessarily mean that it is good or that it will be successful. But, it is generally a better option than just running across a random token sale and participating. In the end, these token sale models have helped the industry evolve in a way, for better or worse. IEOs are also better for projects, as the exchange handles the advertising, and developers have more time to put into the development itself, instead of running around in the dark, hoping that they are doing enough to promote their token.

I disagree with you on that. There's a major difference between ICO and IEO, otherwise, they would be considered the same. I understand that they've similarities. However, the key difference lies in the method in which the tokens issued for sale are distributed and how the sale is handled. In normal ICO, the people usually responsible for the token sale process is the team except they're working with a specialized firm/partner. While in IEOs, Exchanges play the role of getting everything about the token sale. Stuffs like simplified listing process, more transparency, etc.

that only means bigger exchanges should be hosting bigger scams while small exchanges host smaller scams!
you have to realize that the exchange does not care at all whether an ICO is a scam or not. they only care about making the most amount of money. so they first charge a bigger fee for listing (a bigger bribe) then they also earn profit from trades that take place on their platform as everyone dumps (the trading fees).
so far in the past years that we have seen thousands of fundraisings in different names (ICO, IEO, STO,...) not even a single one of them have been legitimate. all of them are useless and got dumped after a while.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.

If it is true that many people believe in IEO, it will be easier for them to sell the coins through their own platforms, right? and I think scammers would dare to do this because their coin are clearly registered and can be exchanged. Until they reach the target they will run away.

as developer helps on release to work on chance with the IEO on broker with the token listing the chance helps as investors might work as appealing of one on token and put on exchange to gains as the reference on drawing as market to gives with different uses on release to modify with appeals on strategy.

but in IEO investors are given security, I think if the exchange opens IEO for fraudulent projects, the good name of the exchange will be bad. and they will be able to lose a lot of trust, I personally still see method in IEO because at this time IEO is just young, still have to see the potential for much longer

What is the difference between ICO's and IEO's
Do not look for the difference between these. Instead, pay attention to projects and their teams, why should type of sales be so important? Sales is the last step, so you should pass the previous steps. All this means one thing: No matter what the project is, the important thing is that how much you will earn after the sale is finished.

This is absolute a good explanation, if we are to be sincere with ourselves. So many people actual thought that IEO is the saviour, meanwhile it isn't. The early investors of IEO are the ones that get the bulk, aside the project team. Particularly, for IEOs that grow after listing.
A time might come that IEO will end the same way ICO ended.

Do not forget that marketing they do is also different , ICO do bounties and IEO has thier own marketing plan which use exchange but they can do the same bounties as ICO.

IEO can end if they lose investors, as long as they have investors, the IEO will still be there even though the method used only has a difference in security between IEO and ICO but the current advantage is held by IEO. hope they don't disappoint for the future because investors have suffered a lot from fraud
