Most magazines depend on freelance contributions rather than inside staff. send a synopsis of your article, a pre-stamped envelope if using post.
Many years ago I did freelancing of illustrated articles and found some of the smaller magazines were more interested as the large one used established freelancers. This was in UK.
Do not be put off by rejections.

They have their contacts written on their websites and you need to work on it as your initiative, you can save fees from those services that will be offered to you by an individual contacting them.
