Promoting ICO scams

Going back to 2017 scam ICO launchings, one thing for sure, sites like Coin Market Cap have played a very big role in promoting those scams. Yes they did it because they want money but one thing they should realize that this thing would lead to distrust of new people in crypto which would ultimately also close their shop as well.

Coin Market Cap takes a huge amount of money from those scammers.
When i contacted CMC, i got this email.

If these sites just go for some verification before promoting these scams, it would be very good for the visitors. Verification can include Mobile verification, Identity verification etc. These sites are an open image of crypto, if these sites just reduce their earned money by a bit and plan for long term then it would be beneficial for all of us.

Seriously, that's business and they don't care whether they're advertising scam projects or not. They'll just reason out that they're not affiliated to all of those and we should invest at our own risk.

And not surprising anymore as they're still being paid to fake trading volumes.

All the scam projects thrived because everyone was ready to promote those scams and all the exchanges were happy to list those coins if you are giving money and money controls everything in life and that happened with coin market cap too as they were happy to list any coins if you are paying them money and the hundreds of exchanges started because they will be paid to get those shit coins listed.

It's saddening but that's the order of the day everyone is in it for the money if we're being honest given money is made those that should carry out some sort of research never does.

It is always all about money, money, money, and money. Laws, standards, qualifications, restrictions, policies, and all will be set aside if money takes into the picture. When money is at the center stage, most principles will have to retreat in the farthest corners. That is what happened to sites such as CMC, exchanges, crypto review sites, and even the SEC. Shame on them all.

You sure coinmarketcap people don't do thorough research on this things? I'd be surprised if they don't.
Well, this is a major problem with both crypto/non-crypto businesses or ad companies that accept ads on their sites. Many  hardly do thorough research on the things they promote.
It's a widespread problem. I guess it's difficult for them to determine what is scam or not. Or thorough research is probably expensive?

I know everyone had learnt something in recent month to create a sustainable space. THose scams are responsible for the deflation in price from bitcoin to altcoins. At the last bullrun the price of bitcoin attracts SEC and the government and they decided to look into the projects and how money flows into the space. They discover a lots of iniquitous dealing that prompted the government going after them. Some had to close shop and run away. ICO could only be for established institutions that want to adopt cryptocurrency and I believe some will come in the future without crowdfund but there pedigree in business.

It is hard to judge them, they might do some sort of verification but we just do not know about it. Look at Youtube for example, did you remember Bunny Token?
Youtube listed that project on their platform and advertised it to their users without knowing their authenticity, on the surface it seems like they did not any verification because they were listing scam project but in the back, they might do something but did not do it in detail.

I think we can't blame CMC. Because the investment is ours, marketing is completely different. We cannot combine it to evaluate a project, it is a very wrong way of assessing a project.
Besides, CMC is not an expert in project analysis and they also cannot know whether it is a fraud or real project.

Could you give a screenshot of the letter. There is nothing wrong with the fact that the site advertises, this is normal practice, of course, not every honest project can hide behind advertising banners.
However, I have never once seen a banner of an explicit scam project at the CMC, I also have not seen topics on the forum related to the fact that the site advertises fraudulent projects.
Maybe I missed something. I’m talking specifically about advertising scam, and not about placing projects in the list of coins on CMC.

Its really possible that the exchanges like the new ones today paid them for the data that has been given to them. VinDAX and Latoken just recently become on of the top exchange in their list and its really surprising how their AI didn't spot it. Being on the top list of the exchanges will probably cost more than $5K a week for it to remain on top.

All awhile I thought the leaderbaord ads are from adnetworks but its paid per mile for $14 that is definitely a money making machine.

Yes its thier own website and thats the only way they can earn . They never tell to people to invest on what they advertise so nothing wrong with this.its just people pretending that the ads they see is legitimate and dont forget that things always happen even in other platform not only in CMC.

Lack of regulatory commission is one of the reasons why any company or enterprise related to cryptocurrencies are not held liable by their actions and can continue to do things to profit and take advantage to feed their greed. If only there would be someone who would overlook operations in the cryptospace, if they are adhering to standards, quality service and security of their platforms, then even scam ICOs and IEOs would have a hard time going out easily to steal people's funds. Since nothing exists to do that part, they're free to do that and wouldn't be responsible to anyone for fraudulent acts.

Although  CMC is not liable for those listing scam projects, still they should do their part to eliminate it in CMC and not just staying it there as trash should be cleaned up too.

on ther other hand, yes investors are liable for their own funds, they should take care of it and not just investing and investing without proper knowledge.

I agree with you, they are not responsible and to assure us that a project will be a legit one and successful, it is our job to figure that out, their business doesn't cope our security when it comes to that, if you are blaming it to them, then it means that you are also accusing this forum by letting those ICOs run on this platform and scamming all of the users here in bitcointalk.

your answer is logical. I agree with you, even scammers can advertise on any platform. this is purely due to business, we should not blame CMC, thanks to him we can more easily see prices, volumes or crypto market movements. which needs to be blamed on the scammer project and its investment victims, not advertising platforms like this at CMC. Actually victims who are exposed to ad referrals, on average cannot analyze. can only see who the advertiser is (can be said to be a noob investor).

cmc ? awts  but i thought cmc was a verry reputable platform and afaik they will not accept scam proposals because they are already an elite when it comes to crypto source/infos  .

 if they do that they can only damage thier sites reputation  . if im one of those website listers i think wont accept scams because money is not what makes a person happy but i only want to become honored as one of those good sites that exist on the internet .
