I presume the state has made all the necessary studies of the blockchain technology and they found out that it is the best option. And now that the state has its verdict, any content from news publications that will discredit or raise doubts against the technology will be removed, censored, or banned.

The government has all the wisdom. There is no point questioning it. Everybody will fully embrace the blockchain technology because the government says so. Discrediting the technology is tantamount to discrediting the powerful government that pushed for it.

If you value freedom, I wouldn't be applauding China at all.  Seem like nothing has changed in that country for many years.  Certainly longer than I've been alive. 

I've read both of those books, by the way.  Think of all the CCTV cameras and people filming things with their phones.  Orwell really had some foresight into what was going to happen, and I'm not even talking about countries like China.  Big brother is watching everywhere.  I wish I could say my country is better than others, but I don't have that sense of patriotism and I see the gov't creeping into every crack in people's lives.  It is truly frightening.

And isn't it the best way to govern people? Just feed them the right information that they need, censor those things that the government does not like and modify those things where the government has changed its mind. There is no better way than that, this is even better than the best democracy in the whole world. And I am just joking.

Despite this, China is a country I admire with its almost miraculous rise in economic power and in its growing international influence. No wonder of many are describing this decade to belong to China and with many decades controlled by this giant of a country. We are now in the world Made in China. And when presented with an opportunity to be the driving force behind the future growth of Bitcoin, China might use this chance to be on the driver seat.

I am searching Bing right now for the copy of George Orwell's Animal Farm as that can be aptly describing what China is doing as well as what the future holds for it.

i think it is more like they have studied Venezuela and what they did with their Petro coin (create their own centralized garbage altcoin out of thin air for no reason) and now that some time has passed they are trying to build up the groundwork for their own centralized garbage altcoin. that is why it says "blockchain technology" not bitcoin.

Banning anti technology news concerning blockchain will not be as good as we think. Yes, we know how good blockchain, but what makes it good is the freedom of people choosing it. If we will spoon feed blockchain and cryto to them, they will not have the freedom to choose. We are in this great community because no one force us to have it. We make blockchain great because we are willing. And we are spreading the good news to them just the same as what we've experienced. Let them choose and see what's good.

The table has turned now, they use to disagree to support the blockchain technology. If you go to China you cannot access this site in normal browsing, You will need some VPN to access this site. That was before, I wonder what's the situation now, as they need to unban bitcointalk on their country to avoid some biased news about the other cryptocurrencies and to let their countrymen learn the basics knowledge here.

Supporting Blockchain does not means supporting Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrency. China has always been against Bitcoin. These steps are being taken to make people adopt and adapt to their own Cryptocurrency. China has been working long enough on their own Cryptocurrency project. It is just the beginning. Just wait and watch.

Love the animal farm reference, I can definitely see a Chinese Naploneon in this version of Orwell's story.

This is a horrible idea and a showcase about how blockchain technology (which is something that is meant to give more power to the people), becomes something that's the opposite when it falls into different hands.

I wouldn't even call this a crypto-currency, this whole debacle is just China copy pasting their ideas and fiat currency into blockchain technology.

So now "blockchain technology" is turning from scam/vaporware into a tool for totalitarian regimes? With some actual use, like boosting their social credit score program, for example? That's certainly a possibility, but also it might just be China trying to save its face in case their blockchain projects will fail, so they want to censor any criticism right now, so that later nobody can point out that they warned China about it. Either way, this should be more the reason for noobs to stop thinking about blockchain and Bitcoin as if they meant the same thing. Blockchain has long became a dream of big companies and government, something that could fix their problems while maintaining their full control - nothing to do with freedom and decentralization of Bitcoin.

Totalitarian is just another way of saying Communist ideologies. While it could be helpful, it's not always the best way to go. What if the government imposes something, in a "totalitarian" way, that is not aiming for the general public's good, but rather their own corrupt practices? Is totalitarian still good at that scenario when the leader is just a corrupt politician that would only want taxpayers money into his wallet? Both totalitarian and democracy has their own pros and cons depending on the situation and totalitarian cannot be applied at all times, same with democracy.

The only reason why they might be doing this is because they are working on their own Blockchain "GovCoin" and they do not want people to discredit the technology, before they launch it. Unfortunately the people already know the "Blockchain" technology that the Chinese government wants to implement, would be a big threat to their financial privacy and it will also be used to control them.

The Chinese government will have 100% control over the "token" being linked to the Blockchain technology that they will be developing, so they will be able to reverse specific transactions and/or taint specific tokens. (Example : If one of their citizens use the token for something that are against their rules, then those tokens could be blocked or tainted and subsequently render it unusable.)

Well, I'm a big fan of decentralization, but not in the blinded way that most people go crazy for. This forum for example is the best example of why it needs central decision making and sometimes even totalitarian control otherwise we end up with a chaos of nonsense that doesn't help anyone. Check out other forums to see what I mean (hint, it's a forum advertised heavily here).

BTW 1984 is cool, but the less famous version of people idling on youtube and social media and TV... that's the real world right now!

There are pros of being a totalitarian state but they would fail someday. I hope they'd be able to contribute largely to the development of science and technology which are no longer the priority of libertarian governments.
Blockchain and crypto has wide range of applications and the blockchain China's trying to adopt is far from bitcoin.

Most people do not realise how all those stories originate, what was or rather is, their source. Gorge as a talented writer was approached by Fabians society, semi-secret guild of evolutionary/conservative communists. He was given a task to subvert the culture of the "old world", to undermine the rules and boundaries, in order to quietly propagate the ideas of socialism. There was no rush, as Fabians knew that communism will win at the end, no revolution was necessary, only gradual progression of the mentality in the media and culture in general. Luckily Gorge was a humanist, he knew how it is going to end and so, he refused to join them. Next move was obvious, he had to expose this sinister plan in a safe and profound manner, he wrote his masterpieces to warn us, warn fellow earthlings from this totalitarian world superpower. That's why those books feel so prophetic but are not, they are simply an elicitation of the existing plan for Erth's enslavement.

I too have read George Orwell's Animal Farm but I won't consider it a masterpiece by any means. It was a poorly composed propaganda piece to resist socialism in US.
I know China is an evil government but George Orwells's Animal Farm also fits to any other democratic government at current time. People have the power to change the leaders but the leaders are nowhere listening to their people.
We are challenging science and experiments to claim our theory is correct. Denying climate change due to human activities while justifying the need of burying the truth.

By the looks of it, it has to be "lost (or rather add) in translation" kinda deal. I did not read it in English, them translators sometimes do outperform original authors. But was it really a propaganda? Was he paid by some organisation to write it? I don't think so.

I agree, they don't listen because they don't have to, most of democracy systems in the world forgot to implement some kind of fail-safe. I guess only Switzerland managed to build in something like that. They don't even have a president, country is run like a company with board of directors that are the people and their referenda voice. Not perfect but a lot better than most others.

That's how things in communism work, you ask nothing, you do nothing, you mean nothing except what the Communist Party says. In case you go against these rules and laws, you disappear in the black night or they publicly kill you at a football stadium as an example to others. I will not say that Western democracy works perfectly, far from it - but few would go to live in China and give up their freedoms.

Do you know the price paid by those who live there for China to make progress as we see it? It is not easy to restrain 1.4 billion people to think like one, and what is China's greatest strength, (which is the people) are also likely to be its greatest weakness when a critical mass is created that will no longer want to live in communism and demand change. This could lead to one of the greatest civil wars in the history of the world.

Again, do not mix their obsession with blockchain, with any benefit to Bitcoin. Their point of view is clear for that matter, nothing that they cannot control completely cannot fit into their system of government.

I read some part of it, all animals are equal but some are more equal than others. The time has come for former slave (the people) to take back power from the masters and live a free life like what the blockchain offers. This is one good side of a totalitarian government it has more evil than good.

Men weren't created to leave under suppression and they weren't created equal because they are unique and all have different qualities. Most importantly I think humans need to live in freedom and peace. That doesn't mean we don't need rules or boundaries, but they need to be set in a democratic way and supervised by competent authorities. All these should happen in my opinion in an ideal world, but we don't live in such a world, but we can fight and join efforts to create one like this and I strongly believe that Bitcoin is the catalyst for a fundamental change of our society.

Democracy isn't perfect but it is what it is because there's no better system. Monarchy is also good if you think about it. The king had to make sure people are happy or they would rebel and dethrone him. If there was a way to give power to a small group of people and completely skip the parliament everything would get done much faster and more efficient. In some countries democracy is becoming too much to handle when minorities are given power by the majority like it was charity. The majority is buying support from minority by granting it what it wants. This is not how democracy should function.

We like what China is doing because for every rule there are those who are for and those who are against. We like it because we like crypto but think of all those who don't like it for some reason. They'll feel abused and forced to shut up.
