Hi guys,

My account was hacked between Mars and July 2018 and banned in May 2018 for of Spam & Plagiarism caused by the hacker.

It was restored and gave back to me in January 2019  before being automatically re-banned for Spam & Plagiarism in September 2019 , even though I haven't posted anything in-between.

At least 4 of the hacker's spam messages posted have been deleted by moderation, which caused the first ban.

I managed to delete some of them when I got the account back back in January 2019.

I guess I forgot to delete the last ones, Moderators deleted them hence triggering the September 2019 re-ban.

Again, is last message was posted July 25 2018, and I haven't posted anything in between except for 2 anodine responses ;

- My 2 last posts  Huh ( January 2019 )

- Restauration notice log  Grin ( January 2019 ) :

- Re-Ban notice log Sad

- My current account status  Undecided :
https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=californiaquail

I spent a year without my Bitcointalk account and was so grateful for that new account recovery process you guys put in place for all of our banned hacked accounts.
I'm really heartbroken to see it got it got banned again.

Just look at this account's last messages I've been helpless-posting here for a year, I even bought a copper membership in luck that it would help speed up the recovery process.

And now it's banned again.

Please make this right,

Thanks...

[edit : / a carbon copy of this message has been sent to the ban account recovery address

I hope the problem will be sorted out.
But if you care that much about your main account, you had to remove all posts created by the hacker. Whenever someone finds a copy pasted post, he will report it and a mod will ban you again (you can't blame them for that).

I think you need to check the post/topic that caused you the ban and then to prove that you didn't create it.
If "You did not create that topic" is proven, the account will be unbanned exactly as happened to Billgator[1].
Note that it needs to be carefully investigated so it may take several days to lift the ban.
As long as you have access to the account and you can prove your ownership, you should ask for the lifting of the ban and forget the rest of the story.

Thanks for your answers,

Although, as opposite to this bill gator person, I never bought an account, and I didn't get a 2 months ban, but a full permaban.

The account was first locked because of the hacker's actions, I managed to prove ownership, it has been given back to me, and two months later it's been permanently ban because of these past actions, I can't say anything more than what I described in my post, unfortunately.

I provided all the necessary ownership infos when I first got my account back, IP addresses and stuff, took me about a year to get this account back, I still have the emails from recoveries_2019_###@bitcointalk.org

And now I'm getting caught in a wave of autobans happening for whatever reason, with virtually no one to reach to about it, and to make things worse we're merely talking a 2014 full member account, so probably not the top of priorities here.

I'm lost at sea here, frankly I'd rather have to pay $10 bucks a year and have a dedicated customer service that I could reach to when stuff like that happens.

A lot of people actually need these accounts for business reasons or whatever, not even to mention some of them are worth quite a lot of money.

I'm I the only one here ?

Thanks to Bitcointalk Recovery Account team, I now regained access to my Full member 2014 account, but it's now being re-banned because of old hacker's posts.

It seems that these Bitcointalk Ban Appeal addresses are not answering betweeen rotations.

I've tried sending an email to the first one that's been provided to me, and waited a month without answer.

Now I've been assigned / rorated another Ban appeal address, still waiting.

Obviously I've ended up in some kind of loophole, at the worst time possible.

Again,  who am I supposed to talk to ?

I've sent countless emails since 11/4/2019, and still nothing.

Who do I have to bribe to get in touch with someone in charge ? This is mildly infuriating.

*edit*
whoever just unbanned my main account, thanks to you, glorious unknown  Kiss

I'll pray for you.

All right then.
Thanks again to whoever sorted that mess.

I conscientiously deleted the trail of shit left by the signature-farmer who bought my formerly hacked account.

Thanks again to the team, and hopefully this wont happen again.  Cheers Smiley

Use a unique password for your forum account, randomly generated is better, something that looks like a bitcoin address or private key and just as long.

If anyone manages to hack the account, you have other problems, such as malware in your computer.

It's good to know that you were helped by the mods to get your account unbanned  Smiley
It must have felt really terrible discovering that your account got banned due to some scumbag who had taken over your account.

Also check your outbox to be sure that the person did not use it for dubious purposes: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm;f=outbox

$10 that's very cheap for requesting dedicated customer service. Where do you think the mods live?

I really like that idea though. I wouldn't mind paying a good amount of money for a dedicated service that helps me recovering account if it's hacked, or gives me instant support on my queries related to my deleted posts, unhandled reports and such. It will be a very good way to incentivize the forum.

I believe I had a fairly strong password, actually I should have changed it after the 2017 data breach of which I was unaware, so it ended up on some onion market... Guess I didnt get the memo...

Thanks, first thing I did. Actually I was very lucky, it could have been used for more sinister purposes due to my activity...  To be fair, it got banned twice : once for plagiarism right after it got hacked and bought, and a second time, months after I managed to get it back, due to some old plagiarism messages I forgot to delete...

I'm lost at sea here, frankly I'd rather have to pay $10 bucks a year and have a dedicated customer service that I could reach to when stuff like that happens.

You're right, it's not a lot, but at the end of the day, they did take care of both my problems, for $0...

Granted it took a while, so I would not mind having paid $10 a year as some kind of insurance fee to have the certitude that my problem would have been taken care of eventually, which was far from the case until the mods decided to handle seriously the hacked accounts situation following the 2017 hack/data breach, whatever that was.

I said $10 because that's pretty much what I threw-in for copper membership on my other account, I don't know what percentage of users end up locked up / banned / moderated on a daily basis, so I really have no idea, what kind of numbers would make sense to them, but I was more thinking of an insurance-like model, you pay so you don't have to use it.

Today with code-free AI bots like verloop.io and things like that, most of the hard work can be easily automatized and may only require very minimal human interaction like intervening on posts or accounts.

I didn't get the memo either about a 2017 data breach for this forum. The last thing I heard was it got attacked in 2015. This forum, bitcointalk.org. So that's the last time I changed my password. Passwords in this forum are stored as hashes, something like a few thousand iterations of SHA or other function. A lot of other sites use bcrypt.

A few of questions:

1. How long was your password?
2. Was it randomly generated?
3. Did you use it anywhere else?
