Hey guys, used BTC years ago when it was newer and now just coming back. I've sent payments twice now and they didn't confirm before the 30:00 timer ran out so my purchase didn't go through BUT the BTC is also no longer in my wallet! Where the hell did it go? Did I throw it away? Any recourse on this or am I screwed? Thanks in advance!

What wallet are you using?  If it's an HD desktop wallet the remaining bitcoin could have moved to a change address.  As for the two payment transactions, they may have gone through eventually.  If that's the case you should get credit for one, and a refund for the other.

Can you share the name of the site to whom you sent the payments?

If there is no longer in your wallet, your Bitcoin already sent it to the address that you are paying for. You can't ever revoke it back, because the Bitcoin transaction is irreversible once the block confirmation was completed.

There's no other way to get your Bitcoin back, just to contact the company that you pay for (as what jackg said), tell them you've sent double payment and ask if you can get it back if possible. And show them the transaction ID as a piece of evidence.

when you send a transaction, your wallet deducts that amount from your wallet preventing you from spending it again even if it is unconfirmed. considering the fact that by the time you started this topic there was a slight fee pike and then in the following 2 hours fee went up to ~30 s/b you had that much time to double spend the coins and prevent it from reaching the destination. but since after that 2 hours mempool was empty and fees came down to minimum 1 s/b your tx should already be confirmed and you no longer can do anything about it.
the only chance you may have at this point is contacting the receiver (payment processor?) and ask them for help. include your transaction ID when contacting them to speed things up.

Check the address that you sent the bitcoins to on an explorer like https://blockchair.com/ or enter the transaction ID there and see what pops up.
Can you see any confirmations for your transaction?
If they are confirmed you need to take it up with the support team of the site.

I am pretty sure you have used bitcoin Marchant like bitpay since you attempted to buy products. Can you please share with us which Marchant or wallet had you used for make transaction? And share also website from where you attempted to buy products, who know if website itself is scam. I am sure you bitcoin now on address where you sent it, if website legit then perhaps they are waiting for enough conformation.

Please share more details with us so we can help you about what is going on. Remember, bitcoin is irreversible, so don't attempt multiple time to send fund. It could not be recover anymore if website become scam.

I will advise you not to use a marketplace which is shady next time but at least you need to tell us the market name and the wallet (hd, electrum, hadware etc) you used to send the payment maybe there chance to help cause crypto wallet have there own unique features.

Telling us the name of the market probably isn't really going to help YOU at all.  It will help US avoid that market in the future so that we don't lose our money.

Telling us the transaction ID *might* be helpful, in that we will be able to determine if the transaction is confirmed.

If you don't want to share the transaction ID, then the first thing you need to do is determine if the transaction is confirmed.

If the transaction is not yet confirmed, then it might be possible to replace the transaction and recover your funds.

If the transaction is confirmed, then the next thing you'll want to do is verify that the address that you sent to is the address that you intended to send to. There is malware that could be running on your computer that changes bitcoin addresses in your clipboard when you copy/paste.  So, it's possible that you copied the correct bitcoin address from the market, and then when you pasted it into your wallet it may have pasted a completely different address.  If this has happened, then you're going to want to get that malware off your computer, and then you're going to want to set up a new wallet (since the malware could have captured your private keys from your current wallet and might steal bitcoins from you in the future).

If the transaction is confirmed AND you are 100% certain that the address that the transaction sent to is the address that you intended to send to, then your only remaining course of action is to contact the market, give them the transaction ID to prove that the payment was made, and demand that they either return the bitcoins or provide whatever you purchased.  In that case, they HAVE the bitcoins, and they are simply refusing to provide what you purchased because of some timer they set up?  There is no way to get the bitcoins back without THEIR private keys, so you are at their mercy.

Hmm. Not necessarily. eg. If they're using an outdated payment processor, it could also be that they simply did not detect your payment.-- that is if you sent it from a bech adress (bc1.)
I've had this issue quite a few times to me on certain sites, so it's a possibility.

So, it might actually be trivial to give out the site. We could see whether the site is likely to be a scam, or if there might be other issues you're not aware of (as described by DH).

Alas...

Many bitcoiners value their privacy, for a variety of reasons including the fact that they are simply unwilling to share their lives with the masses.

As such, it's generally a good idea, when helping someone, to walk them through the process as much as possible.  Rather than asking them what site (or address, or transaction ID, etc), so that you can check on it for them, it's better to explain to them how they can check on it themselves.

Dozens of people are asking the site where you have transacted already and you are giving up on your own. Usually when things like this happens what you just need to do is the txid proving that you have sent the funds to the specified payment address you are given too, if you have that the 30 minute timer they have is useless since you have sent the payment to it even if they have received it late they still receive the payment twice. If you don't want to mention the website then just try to contact them on your own, if this is an e-commerce type of website then you will find their support/contact page easily and try to voice out your concern there.

Thanks, honestly buying some crap from a shady market (nothing nasty) and my funds didn't confirm within the allotted window. Haven't used BTC in years and didn't catch the fee setting so it went SLOW. Didn't know if there was a way with the destination wallet and transaction IDs if it could be fixed or not.
Using Electrum on both android and desktop.

Shady market as in a darknet marketplace? That would explain why you don't want to talk about it. Search its name in a search engine and see what comes up and do they have negative comments and feedback associated with their name. If they do it is likely they just scammed you.

Understand the forum restrictions newbies and it all because of the abusive level of the forum newbie. However, it will be good if you provide the transaction ID and the version of wallet you used for transaction on here so the community can help.
The transaction is not confirm, isn't it?

It won't. At most, all the people will be able to tell you is if your transaction is confirmed or not... and what address the funds were sent to.

As Danny explained earlier, if the transaction is not confirmed, then there is a chance you could recover the funds by replacing the transaction, otherwise, the only people that can help are the ones you sent the funds to.

You can check all this yourself by simply visiting a block explorer like blockcypher or btc.com or Blockstream and copy/pasting your transaction ID(s) there. They'll tell you if the transaction(s) are confirmed or not and show relevant details like the address(es) that received funds.

It will be a lot faster and you won't need to worry about the posting limits here Wink

There is no risk if one discloses us his/her transaction ID(s), isn't it? As I know, only discloses of wallet ID(s) is risky because from which technical guys can bruteforce wallets and steal private keys, then steal bitcoin.

As such, it's generally a good idea, when helping someone, to walk them through the process as much as possible.  Rather than asking them what site (or address, or transaction ID, etc), so that you can check on it for them, it's better to explain to them how they can check on it themselves.
I agreed and this thread is helpful for OP: List of useful Bitcoin block explorers

No, obviously not. There's no *technical* security risk at all. But yeah, someone's privacy can potentially be heavily reduced by sharing the transaction ID. (Or it might at the very least feel like it gets reduced.)

I guess someone who's really eager could try to social engineer too if the outputs were going to a certain service/exchange, but that's really doubtful.

That's not a fault of the bitcoin protocol though, but rather of the user commited to using a webwallet (in combination with a weak password).
