A few minutes of research realized that the scammer did not receive much merit and his alt account did not receive much merit either, so how the hell would he be able to sell many merits? People should ask this question not to fall for this kind of scam.

Slow death, even if this seller maybe not have any merits on any known account, who says he is not in possession of other accounts with huge number of airdropped merits? Only one Legendary account is quite sufficient for this type of trading, with 200 merits and price of $5 it is $1000 profit.

However, the way he offered his service does not place him in the category of intelligent merit sellers, they generally do this outside of the forum, on sites that sell digital products and things like that.

Jesus, that's a lot of money just for a single merit, especially considering how many merits you need to rank up.  Did this guy get any bites on his offer or what?  I don't remember the last time I saw what merits were going for, but I think this dude's rates were higher than what I'd seen previously.

Yeah, who knows.  It's entirely possible that he has access to his own alt accounts or is in cahoots with other members interested in selling their merits.  There are a number of ways this could be pulled off.

Is there an acceptable price? 

The value of merit can only be gauged by "sweat equity" in my opinion.  I believe I've seen other threads offering merits for sale, but I don't recall a situation where it was proven any were actually sold and delivered.

This is actually the second time i am seeing merit being charged at high rates but the advert was on a website outside bitcointalk
These guys make it seem like getting a single merit is close to impossible
