Hi All,

I'm new to mining, i researched more on many websites. but still im unclear about the gpu and the power consumption. I live in USA , East region. The temperature is around 30 to 40F now.

I'm looking to get either 12 gpu rx580  or 12 gpu gtx 1060. these 2 are under my budget now.

here is the configuration of the rx580 and the link:

https://miningcave.com/product/rig-12-gpu-rx580-8gb/

12gpu rx 580 8gb cards , hashrate - 279 mh, power consumption - 1800w. runs on 120V - 240V AC.
ATX lga1151 motherboard intel. 4gb ram, 1 X add2psu, 2 x power supply 1600w 90+ Gold certified non modular
12 x usb 3.0 pci-e 1 x to 16x extended riser adapter

https://miningcave.com/product/rig-12-gpu-gtx1060-6gb/

12gpu gtx 1060gb 6gb cards , hashrate - 210 mh, power consumption - 1380w. runs on 120V - 240V AC.
ATX lga1151 motherboard intel.
4gb ram, 1 X add2psu, 2 x power supply 1600w 90+ Gold certified non modular
12 x usb 3.0 pci-e 1 x to 16x extended riser adapter

mining OS :: Simple mining OS  or Hive OS.

My current electricity Bill is getting around 53.04
Usage                    Residential

2 4 1 K W H             X 0 . 1 6 5 1 3 9 . 7 9         = 3 9 . 7 9
+
C U S T O M E R C H A R G E                                1 3 . 2 5

with the simple mining OS / Hive OS can i mod the gpu's to get more hashrates and less power consumption?
the seller said Win10 is unstable for 12 gpu rig.

Can you please tell me if either of the rigs be any profit to me Huh

Thanks in advance...!  Smiley

Wrong section to post questions on gpu's

correct section

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0

I have 9 threads on gpu mining.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5144362.0

I asked mods to move you.

The Mods will move it for you. I do not understand your power cost, but it appears to be  .16 cents a kwatt  which means very hard to earn money.

As phil said you are paying what looks like $0.165xxx per KWH.

Power draw (1.8kw or 1.38kw) * hours of operation * 0.165xxx = what you pay to run it. There are 24 hours in a day and on average 30 days in a month.

This same basic math works with anything you use, BTC miners, home appliances etc.

If you want to mine and this is general not just for GPU  mining get away from Windows. Learn a linux distro and you will be much happier. The best part of linux is most of them are free so you can try them out.

So the cost comes around 220$ per month for the 12gpu rig.

If i choose to run rx580 with bios modded in Hive or Simplemining OS, can i reduce the power cost.

The hashrate for rx580 for Ethereum comes around 27.5 MHash/s. with 330 MH/s will there be any profit per month on mining altcoins?

@PassThePopcorn - you said about linux distro, is it for cypto mining?
The Hive or Simple mining OS are also based on Linux right?

can you also suggest good miners either gpu or asci miners..

Thanks!

since you are new to mining
i suggest you should not go 12 cards mining rig
first buy cheap used PC with good high wattage power supply ( 750w minimum )
buy 2x used cards ( 1x nvidia & 1x amd )
then put your hands on building it and do some mining and learn how to manage it

then do the calculation on this PC in term of profitability and electricity

after that you decide if it is worth it or no

no one can tell you its going to be profitable or , you need to understand some basic information about mining ...
There is a good topic, where you might can find a answer :

and because that topic is become locked by some admin, no one knows why, after almost 17000 readers,  i re posted few months ago here, if you want to comment or ask a question :

Much better to calculate if how much -profit you can make with your mining rig.

Use this tool https://whattomine.com/

And choose GPU you are planning to build and make sure to put your Electricity rate so that it will automatically generate daily rewards you earn from mining.

Here in my country If I mine with these cards I can only earn around 0.16$ minus the electricity cost of $4.67 so you still making a profit but in very small which I think will take many years before you can reach your ROI.

Mining these days is not yet profitable except for ASIC mining.

I recommend spending these ~ 4k $ to buy the coins directly ..
I set up a rig less than 6 months ago and it's just covering the electricity ... profits are close to zero.

My Rig: 7x1660 and 0.14 $ KWh.

There's nobody to tell hashrate on RX 580 is more like 30-31 and not 27.5 ?
And power will be less than 1800w with dual gold psus ...

Mining has not been as profitable as before for a long time now.
If you're going to invest in mining, remember this that the good old profitability is near to zero nowadays.
As others have already suggested, it's better to invest the time, money and resources to purchase the coins directly and wait for it appreciate in value.

Mining is not "plug and play". You'll have to find time to learn things, experiment with the cards and settings, monitor and maintain it. It's kind of a full-time job and if the incentives are not favourable, you'll regret going in this direction.

Even then you want to try, go for 1-2 GPUs or a 6 GPU rig, learn the basics, experiment and see how feasible it is for you, then continue this journey forward.

Thank you so much guys, the power cost in my region is higher. Even if i mine there wont be any profit due to the power cost.

I will go thru the links you all suggested and decide on buying coins thru coinbase or some other sites.

Hi admin,  you can mark this post as completed/closed.

Thanks ALL!!

Those GPUs are not near profitable with that power cost, if this is anything more than a hobby, sell them and buy coins pronto. Try some well known trusted hosted with fpga.

I checked Comino grando site for the FPGA, they have colocation option too. the cost comes arounnd 5800$ but right now i dont have that much to invest on.

Does any one know how grn mini miner works?

grn mini
grn miner

mini miners looks affordable and it looks like a gpu.

grn miner is asic miner.

Thanks.
