Actually, I think I just accidentally discovered it. It looks like it's the bold-italic variant of a Google webfont called Ubuntu:

We just need a good, solid font. Helvetica gets used everywhere, but it still works for most people. (A list of logos that use Helvetica:

Edit:Big corporations like Google for example create their own fonts so that nobody can truly copy them online/anywhere.
Actually, it may be less common than you think. Google, for example, is using a typeface created back in 1982.
