Arrived Ledger Backup Pack - Nano X + Nano S

Just ordered now Ledger backup pack Nano-X + Nano-S from Amazon. Seller is Ledger official. I could used Ledger official website for buy this pack but there is some reason. The issue with delivery. Since I am working on abroad currently I am not living in city. So I used someone else address for receive that product and that guy usually use Amazon website to buy products. Ledger official website free delivery which is same price of Amazon price including delivery. But Ledger website will dilvery with in one month. If not then delivery cost too high. Thats why I used Amazon.

However, I am fully new with Hardware wallet. If there is any sign that I would know if devices have been used or any other thing that I would have risk? I believe it will not damaged or used since seller is Ladger official and they have good ratings but just curious about it.

Aprrox 28 November should be delivery to me. Let's see how many day need.

If the devices were completely fake then you wouldn't be even able to use them with Ledger Live. If their software was modified, a warning would be displayed during the boot. You can also remove the chassis of the Nano S to see if there isn't any extra chip inside (reference). Most people lost their money because their devices were shipped from resellers who included a pregenerated seed. You should be safe since you ordered the pack from their official account.

There is a risk buying from third party. However you can mitigate that risk by updating and verifying the firmware. You can read more here but I believe you are safe, as you bought from their official account.

Not so much on topic: I see a lot of people buying more than one device for back up. That's not necessary. You just have to back up your seed words. Once it is safe, you can recover it in any other wallet, you don't need two devices.

Yes, I can confirmed that was the shope where I placed order. So I believe device should be original and new. I share it because I want to make sure if I am not missing anything. This is fund related and a mistake would cause huge losses. So if in case seed is pre-generated then device will not generate new one during first setup. However I would know now if device used or not. Thanks for your answer.

Not really just for backup. I would gift Ledger-S to someone else (Don't want to share personal relationships on forum). That's why ordered 2 device actually and there is some savings on price when you will order this pack. If you buy it individually then you need $178($119+$59) so I save almost $29  . Is not it ?

Coolcryptovator, investing in security by buying a hardware wallet is without a doubt the best thing you can do to protect yourself from all the possible threats we face today when it comes to cryptocurrency. Even the price is not exaggerated since you get two devices, but maybe your timing is not best. As Black Friday approaches, we can expect discounts from Ledger, so you can save some extra money.

You've already got tips on how to check is your device genuine, and I advise you to make just that software check, and not to open device/s if you are not an expert person. In the case of hardware checks, you lose the right to warranty and any replacement.

It is always a good idea to check if you wrote down the seed correctly before you send any funds to your Ledger.
After you set up the wallet, generate a new address and take note of it. After that wipe your device and restore it from seed. Enter the seed words in the correct order. Once the account is ready compare the address you generated the 1st time to a new receiving address. They should be the same.

That is just a tip to make sure you wrote down your seed correctly. It is a lengthy process to do all that and pretty slow but better be safe than sorry.

I agree that typing 24 words on Nano S is not an easy task, and requires time and precision, but we have Ledger Recovery Check app which facilitates this process. The app is working in a way that asks you to type just one or two-letter of the word, and it will show you suggested word to confirm, similar to Electrum mobile app.

An easy way to check for that attack vector is to allow the wallet to generate a seed, write it down, reset the device, and go through the initialization steps again.  If the wallet generates the same seed twice it's a forgery, or has been tampered with to produce a specific seed to which a hacker has access.  A genuine wallet will never generate the same seed twice.

I ordered my Nano S from Amazon a few months ago, and it was from Ledger's Amazon shop so I don't have any worries about the thing being loaded with malware or whatever.  You shouldn't have any problems either.

I was on Ledger's site the other day and noticed the two-pack that you bought, and I kind of wish I'd bought the two together instead of just the Nano S--not that I don't love it, but I'd like to see what the Nano X has to offer and at this point I don't feel like spending over $100 for another hardware wallet that I don't really need.

OP if you're just getting into hardware wallets, I don't think you could have made a better choice.  The Nano S is fantastic and the X is probably great as well.

Yeah, I heard that too a few weeks ago.  I'll probably check Ledger's site again after Thanksgiving to see if the Nano X is on sale.  I also like the "To the Moon" edition.  Looks pretty sweet.

It's always a good idea to buy hardware wallet if you want to keep your crypto safe. You bought it from official seller, so you shouldn't be concerned much about that you may get not genuine or preconfigured device. But here is few tips ehich help to check is it everything fine with your Ledger:

I am with pmalek on this one. The method his described is the only way you can be 100% sure you have the correct seed and you hold the privatekeys for those addresses.
There are many reports over Reddit and bitcointalk where users wrote down the correct seed and later on when the device reseted they couldn't find their funds (on trezor). We will never know if they wrote down the seed correctly or if it was a device bug.

Better play safe and check if your device can recover the same Private keys after the reset, and this way is the only way to confirm that .

Bad for me  . To be honest I were not aware about black Friday that it was very near. I have been wating for 11:11 but unfortunately both site didn't offer any discount. But it was quite necessary for me since I am managing signature campaign lately. And I have been entrusted fund of participants. Still I am holding funds for my current campaign.
