No idea where to post this, but figured I'd try here.  I have been mining with L3+ miners forever.  I just bought one more on the cheap, and it runs ok.  When I try to update the firmware, it says success and "reboots."  Except it never starts mining again, and I cant log in to the GUI.  I unplug the miner, plug it back on and it starts right up fine, but on the old firmware.  I haven't tried the SD card trick yet, and since it's running I am willing to leave well enough alone, but I really want to know what is going on with it.  Anyone else have this problem?

In this case i would say never touch a running system as long its working and you havnt any problems with it .
Never tryd to flash my L3+ miner because it was working very well without any problems.

If you update the Firmaware from Bitmain and its the original firmaware maybe try to contact there support.
If flashed your Miner with an other optimized Firmware its possible that something is broken.

Also never trust other Firmwares when its not the original one , you never know what the firmware is doing as long you dont know what the code is doing on the Software.

Did you use the latest firmware from bitmain? If you did then you can't flash it back to the below version.
The only solution for this if you want to flash the old version you need to flash it through SD card.
If you don't know how to flash with SD card you can follow this guide here

* https://support.bitmain.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000216034-L3-L3-and-L3-Control-Board-Program-Recovery

Then get the sd card file under this link https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20image

I hope it will work.

I tried the sd flash method, and it updated to the newest firmware 4/23/19, but i still can't flash via the GUI.  it's really strange.  Runs fine, so I'm leaving alone, but would like to know what gives.  I've flashed tons of machines and never had this issue.

Did you ever get this figured out?
The 2019 firmware disables SSH, which means you are locked to using only BITMAIN firmware.

BUT

I just finished downgrading from the 2019 firmware.

I had to do a "Control Board Program Recovery"

The way listed on the BITMAIN site gave me problems though; I was not able to login using the default username/password

If you run into the same problem with logging in you have to modify the Control board recovery.

 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1. Download the old firmware from here ( https://github.com/jeffpcyo/asic-firmware/tree/master/Bitmain/Antminer/L3%2B) (This is just the first place i found the 2017 firmware)

2. Download the "L3+、D3、A3-SD Tools.zip" from here ( https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20image ) (BITMAIN's support site)

3. Extract "Antminer-L3+-201708251737-384M.tar.gz" to somewhere (so you can get at the Antminer-L3+-201708251737-384M.tar inside)

4. Extract "Antminer-L3+-201708251737-384M.tar" to somewhere

5. Extract "L3+、D3、A3-SD Tools.zip" to somewhere ( I use 7zip, just right-clicked and extracted each of these to a folder with their name)

now that you have all the files ready you can proceed:

(From BITMAIN's Control Board Recovery page)
3. Insert the Micro SD card into the card reader and connect to the computer.

4. Format the Micro SD card to FAT32

5. Copy the extracted file to the Micro SD card (Extracted from "L3+、D3、A3-SD Tools.zip")

RIGKING's FIXY-fixxer-son

6. Copy the files extracted from "Antminer-L3+-201708251737-384M.tar" to the SD card - Overwriting when prompted

Now continue following the directions from BITMAIN's support

6. Insert the Micro SD card into the control board

7. Power on the miner

8. Remove the Micro SD card after the miner gets its IP address

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

From this point, I was able to use the default credentials to log in, and flash the correct firmware

I did what rigking said and it saved my miner.

This said I would add 2 things:
- the SD card must be FAT32. It happens that my card was 64Gig, and therefore exFAT and not FAT. The miner was just ignoring it. I had to partition it, so I can format it using FAT32 and then follow rigking instructions to succeed
- After the miner booted on the SD card, I removed it and restarted the miner, which still had the 2019 OS on it. Therefore I did put back the sd card, booted, and then was able to flash a new OS (Hiveon) on my L3.

Note: I am still denied SSH, which may be normal (frankly I have no idea) with Hiveon asic software

Huge thanks to rigking for the links and the tip to overwrite with an old version...

Had a S9 and a D3 do this too.
I *think* it's bad nvram (or whatever holds the OS)on the board.
When writing with the SD it just puts in on there.
When flashing though the OS, it does checksum checks and the like. So if something is not 100% it will fail while doing it though the web / running OS.

Sorry, but I'm new to this. I was trying to install new firmware from the factory firmware and now the hashboards don't show. I followed the steps above and still no luck with them showing up. I have Antminer firmware on there, but that's all.

I've wracked my brain and followed all these steps. Still can't overwrite the 2019 firmware. Can anyone please help? I always try to pay it forward, so please let me know if there's anything I can do to return the favor / pay it forward.
