It would be something similar to this rule already in place.
30. Similar marketplace items must be listed together.[2][e]
Except that it is for all boards and is for topics like: [tips],[Ref], [Guide], [Help] or anything that falls into those categories with out the same heading. Since merit a lot of users have gone the route of creating helpful informative guides. the problem can be that they have multiple topics that don't necessarily generate a lot of discussion. The bump is totally within the current rules, but can overwhelm a board if you have say 3 users with a couple topics each.
I know I have a few out there floating around. Some made it into Pinned topics which was awesome, some I just reference when I see a post that could benefit from reading through it. What I am proposing is that users who have multiple informative style topics they want to keep relevant/visible should group these within a single reference thread and bump that topic daily. An example would be the B&H board where you then leave it open to mostly newbie questions or discussion threads, but still have a place for these informative topics.

I am only really noticing this more now, but do recall a comment from Lauda in regards to LoyceV some time ago. I can't recall if a comment was made prior to this but they do express the nuisance they felt it caused before consolidation. This would essentially be the format users should use when they have multiple topics on a board, it's just easier to suggest it to someone if it makes it's way into a rule/guideline in the same fashion as multi-posts or deleting old bumps.

What about the specific discussion around the topics, they would all just land up jumbled upon in the main consolidated thread.

Its good for marketplace, as the rule just states similar marketplace items to be listed together and not all threads started by the same person in the marketplace board.

No not really. The consolidation thread only serves the purpose of providing a landing page for the topics themselves. This could be a locked topic that the OP has and bumps daily or when they have the time, or it could be an open topic that has it's own discussion about what people want to see created maybe. This thread links to all others. The individual topics themselves would be where any actual discussion should it happen takes place, that is on topic for that thread.

That comment was the first comment in my "consolidated topic", but it's GrumpyKitty we're talking about Tongue

Talking for myself, I don't really use daily bumps on my data topics anymore (and ironically I never used daily bumps on my "useful data"-topic), but I do like to keep updating several data-topics (and I know for a fact some users appreciate them or even look forward to them. But since theymos' Merit and Trust data dumps happen on Friday and Saturday, I too notice Meta is overwhelmed with updates in the weekend. I'll be on the lookout for data topics being dumped during the week, because I don't think it happens often.

I could think of a rule to limit the number of bumps a user is allowed per day per board, but that's going to be terrible to keep track of and it's easy to accidentally violate such a rule.

I couldn't remember if something was said first or not, I guess that was more the GrumpyKitty seal of approval. Wink

Myself included, some of them, others are just beyond the level of what I want to know. Nightshifts Friday are the worst especially as it takes longer each week to get the Trust List viewer uploaded. I think quite a few of your get bumps form others waiting on them anyways, and yes once a week taking up a few spots isn't really to bad. I only pointed to you in particular as you had already made a great example of how a landing page could be utilized. I wanted to avoid calling out anyone in particular that had currently triggered this thought for me.

I agree with you, this would be more trouble than it's worth. If it made it's way into a rule, if reported Mods, could just PM a user and notify them of the need to create a landing page topic.
