Is sharing number conformations required is a crime?

Guys, Two days ago I created exchanges simultaneously with Changenow and changelly. The from currency was the same that is XVG.

The order with ChangeNow when through immediately but Changelly was struck. When I contacted Changelly they said the order needs confirmations. When I asked for number of confirmations required they said they can not. What is wrong in sharing the number of confirmations required? My transactions had around 210+ confirmations.

I have I transferred XVG several times and when I have so many confirmations and said they can not mentioned the number of confirmations that is required, I felt cheated.

To hide there mistake of not detecting my deposit they are saying my transaction need more confirmation. This is what I felt.

What was your experience? What is the actual number of confirmation required? Did they say that to hide their mistake.

I suggest you post on their official thread[1] or create a scam accusations if your issue is not yet solved, though I doubt it will speed it up as they're known as a shady exchange here.

Nope, not a crime... As a matter of fact, i think they're more or less obliged to tell you how many confirmations your deposits will need in order to be credited to your account...

Not disclosing this information can lead to abuse... If your tx has 210+ confirmations, i don't think they can use number of confirms as an argument in a discussion about not crediting your account.

Never used them but any exchange or service I have used always states the minimum number of confirmations needed before I can access the funds on their site. So I would just keep on them on every platform you can until this is resolved. I would take a quick read through their TOS as well and see if there is anything in there, then you can at least point it out to them as you push for the release.

For this to turn into a crime they need to steal the funds outright. Until then it's just a customer service issue. That sort of issue would lead me to not use them again moving forward, and pull any coins you might have there out.

If you exchanged BTC to XVG, then it shouldn't be more than 1-2 confirmations. I'm not sure about the XVG transactions though, how long did it take to get 210 confirmations?

The exchange is known for selective scamming though so If the amount you exchanged is big, I highly suggest opening a scam accusation right away.

This is very weird considering the fact that crypto exchanges are supposed to exhibit a certain level of transparency especially when it comes to transactions and confirmations.

My guess is there is a reason your balance does not reflect, and they are probably buying some time. I have never transacted using XVG and i have never used changelly but this could help you

Each transaction at Changelly passes three steps. Usually, our transactions take 5-30 minutes to be fully processed. If your transaction takes longer, this could be due to a variety of factors. To find out the reason of the delay, it is important to determine what stage it happened on. Go to your History page, find the transaction you have issues with and look at its status.

1. Waiting for payment
If your transaction is stuck at the “Waiting for payment” stage, it means that we haven’t received money from you, so far.

Why did it happen?

Blockchain overload. This is the most common reason for backlogs. You’ve sent money to our wallet, and now your transaction is in the queue to be broadcasted in the network. Just wait until your transaction shows up in the blockchain and gets at least two confirmations. As a rule, it’s enough for us to receive your coins.

Incorrect memo / destination tag / message (link). If you are sending us Ripple, XEM, Steem/Steem Dollars, Stellar or Decent (links - Currencies) to exchange, the transaction in your History page will have its unique memo, destination tag or message, depending on what crypto you are about to exchange. Compare them to the one you’ve already put in when sending the coins. It should match to the one indicated in your transaction from the History page. If you make a typo or input the completely another memo, destination tag or message, your transaction will not pass through automatically. To process it, you will have to contact our support team and provide all the payment details including your transaction ID on Changelly and a link to your transaction in a blockchain. Once provided, this data will be used to process your transaction manually: we will either refund your coins or exchange them at the rate relevant for the manual processing time.

You’ve sent your coins to a different wallet.

Other technical reasons. If there is no overload, and no other obstacles on your end, there are likely to be some technical issues in our system. You can wait until our tech team resolves the matter or report us (link) to learn more details about your pending transaction.

2. Exchanging
If the Exchanging stage takes more than expected, there might be due to several issues.

Market overload. You are buying crypto at the peak or significant uptick, there is a risk of exchange backlogs due to increasing demand. In this case, your transaction may be stuck at Exchanging.
Technical issues at trading partners. As you may know, Changelly works with large trading platforms. The robot selects a rate and processes your transaction via either of the platforms. On rare occasions, it may have technical issues and halt orders for some reason.
Both of these issues take time to resolve. If you suspect this is the case, you should report us, so that we can provide you with more detailed information on your matter.

3. Sending
Your transaction may be stuck at sending if:

The blockchain is overloaded. There are many transactions waiting to go through, including yours. This issue occurs on the Bitcoin, Bitcoin-based and Ethereum blockchains. Unfortunately, the only thing to do is wait it out. Changelly has no control over a blockchain overload.

4. Overall issues

The list of issues below may concern all the stages.

Coin under maintenance (link – Can’t see this coin in your list). If we consider some coin doesn’t work properly on Changelly or it should be updated, we can halt all transactions related to that coin. Once the coin is back, your transaction is automatically processed at the rate relevant for this moment.
Server DDoS attacks or overloads. Such things may happen to any service. If our servers are backlogged or down, you must wait until the issue is fixed.


Security reasons. We can halt your transaction if we suspect the fact of money laundering or fraud.

What should I do?
Take a deep breath and relax. If your transaction is stuck due to technical issues, then we are likely to know about them and make every our effort to make things work again. If you consider the delay is made by your fault, get assistance at our support ninjas.

First of all, there is no reason to hide information about the number of confirmations needed - this is very suspicious.
Secondly, if the transaction has not been completed for such a long time (for XRP it is seconds), it means that it is a service error or the transaction has been intentionally blocked.
I hope this is not a scam attempt, but it looks very suspicious.

Totally agree that they need to disclose it just want to note that requiring hundreds of confirmations is not unusual for some unstable shitcoins that have like 10-second block times and fork on every other block.

I don't know anything about XVG tho... but some googling shows 50 sat price, 16 billion coins, 30-sec block time, been hacked in the past - I wouldn't be surprised if exchanges don't want to take it without at least 1-2 hours worth of confirmations.

Just this could already bring out the idea of what kind of exchange they are and the customer service they provide. Plus, the fact that they originally refused to give out the number of transactions required, I'd immediately move on to another exchange rather than continue and try using them. It's pretty much unknown whether they used that to hide their mistakes or just a pure scam, but you should still share and file a proper report for others to see.

but based on the ss below you will see that your transaction should be completed because the support i ask says that the confirmation should be not 210++

Sorry, but what I am understanding from your title is you were asking for no. of confirmations and you did not get a clear response from them, and because of that you faced issues. First of all as per my info all exchanges including binance, hitbtc, coinswitch, even decentralised exchanges tell you the no. of confirmations needed therefore it is not a crime.

But I am curious to know that what could be the reason that someone is not willing to disclose the no. of confirmations, since this is an open information available on blockchains for specific coins etc.

All other exchanges do mention it which means it a open information that is not causing any harm to you exchange if you disclose. What is that special in Changelly that they clear said it is in their rule not to disclose?

All other exchanges do mention it which means it a open information that is not causing any harm to you exchange if you disclose. What is that special in Changelly that they clear said it is in their rule not to disclose?

The only explanation I can think of is that they don't have financial liquidity and do not provide the number of confirmations to be able to hold withdrawals. When liquidity returns, they make withdrawals. Of course, this is only an idea, not an accusation.

My experience is that it is better not to trade your digital currency assets on small exchanges. This risk is very high and your tokens cannot be sold in time.

why not ? most of the coins are mainly landed on smaller exchange sites and later on the bigger ones or sometimes they dont end up being listed on there  . will you have the patience to wait ?  facing risk trading on small exchange is better than being ended up getting scammed by coins that arent even listed anywhere. 

about the confirmation thingy , i never thought that there were rules behind that . it might be a crime to some especially if they state a rule that restrict it but to some , it isnt a crime .

why not ? most of the coins are mainly landed on smaller exchange sites and later on the bigger ones or sometimes they dont end up being listed on there  . will you have the patience to wait ?  facing risk trading on small exchange is better than being ended up getting scammed by coins that arent even listed anywhere.

The problem is not that an exchange is big or small. The important part is the liquidity on that exchange for that specific coin. If the liquidity is very low there's a good chance the price drops heavily or the coin gets delisted before you get the chance to sell it.



And back on-topic, although late: the required number of confirmations should be not so much different from a service to another (although 2x can happen). If the time difference is very big (hours), the second exchange either has issues with the wallet, either makes internal checks (even KYC) they don't want to disclose.

Ans besides Changelly has a lot of negative on traders, people should not use these exchange if you are trading funds, or better not use it all if they cannot provide a piece of simple information like that when other exchange can give that info when requested something fishy is going on there.
