Hello

Recently there has been a lot of topics created regarding privacy and security (especially new known vulnerabilities), especially in beginners & help board.
Those topics are not bitcoin related, but moderators allow them there.

I believe that a new fresh board for those subjects, probably under beginners and help board would be nice. It would be almost spam free, as those topics usually are.

I think there is no need to list  those topics I mentioned, as they are so many .. jsut take a look at the first 2-3 pages of that board.

and I believe there will be enough traffic on such a board, which is a topic that interests most of us.

I'll support this initiative but this shouldn't be just a child board for Beginners & Help but should be a separate board or it may have child board/s as well to identify which those topics should belong. Are there any necessary things to provide before boards will be implemented like example how many topics been made that relates it or it will be the sole discretion by the admin to provide because it is necessary?

I guess this will be not solve the problem . And new User will be not looking in it .

Because new Users will just post in Beginners & Help section as they dont know the most times where to post and how the Forum works.
They even dont know after some days or months the rules and other stuff.

In the past when a new child board was created, the criteria was that around 50% of topics on the main board would instead be better off in the child board. I'm not sure we've hit that level here.

I do agree though that there are a lot of good topics regarding general security and privacy practices, along with other tech related but not crypto related topics, which end up in Beginners because of a lack of better place to put them. Ideally, they would belong in Off Topic, since it is supposed to be for other topics "of interest to bitcoiners", but thay board is such a spam fest that they would get buried. It would be nice to have somewhere better to put them.

For this reason we have the mods and once we put it in practice then the users will start knowing the separate board for this kind of topics.

I go with bitmover and I do feel that we need a separate section related to online security and privacy. A lot of us use bitcoin but we really do not know the measurement of privacy to keep us safe and also the security measurements.

I still see a lot of users to get hacked and their bitcoins are stolen. There are still a lot of users losing their online accounts (in any website) just because they are not aware of phishing attacks.

If we have a separate board and if the related topics were moved there then it will be easier for users to find the topics and get their knowledge from there.

In the Beginners and Help board basically filled with a lot of uncategories topics. May be we can categories the topics and can create few more sub boards there.

Those topics are not directly related to Bitcoin/Crypo but they can be really crucial for those who keep their investments in digital currency on their computers/mobile phones. Actually they are most of the time the main target of the hackers.
Keeping good "digital hygiene" it's important but often there are vectors you don't realize that can be used against you. Every day comes out different bug/vulnerabilities in browsers, operating systems, software that could be used directly against the crypto-community so the awareness is crucial. I would love to see those posts even in the news feed, like theymos does it with wallet-related issues but...
I have a few posts myself there, backed with the logic that the newbies not always are so prepared as the "old dogs".

I understand your point, but for me it would be better as a child board under beginners and help section, I am active in the beginners and help board and those who make those threads on the privacy and Security features are mostly users from full member upwards, the high ranked users are mostly aware of many of this security features and they post it in that section to help the newbies, so they can also learn in that very vital area(privacy and Security of funds)

Making it a child board under beginners and help, would still serve that purpose, as it will target the newbies, though with a more suitable place for the posts, and it would be good for newbies who visit that board as they all should.

I'd like such board exist, but IMO the topic is too narrow. Something like "Security, Privacy & Anonymity" would be better since 3 of them are related.

But there aren't that many topics about those, so i doubt we'll this board will be created.

I doubt it will ever created as well. But I think it should.

Topics are related to this forum, people here have much knowledge and interest about them and this is certainly one of the best forums in the internet to discuss about Security and Privacy.

Look at beginners and help board now. 11 Topics related to "Security, Privacy & Anonymity" (anonymity and privacy are almost the same btw) and 25 not related, in the first page.

bitmover, I have nothing against new board for online security/privacy, even in Beginners & Help board. But I disagree that current topics are not Bitcoin-related, the security of personal computers and smartphones should come first, and it directly affects Bitcoin users, especially beginners.

The basic prerequisite to someone in a secure manner start using BTC is to prevent anyone from deceiving him in any way, or stealing his coins. Fake wallets, phishing, clipboard malware, and similar things can be avoided by education, and I think this board is one of the best places on the forum for every beginner.

Such threads are not spam free, far away from that. Many posts are reported and deleted, and self-moderated threads keep spammers away.

We really need a new board.
Yesterday hackers breached the security of the official Montero website and replaced the wallet binaries with infested ones. The problem was deteced jsut a half hour later but there were already reports for lost coins...
Anyway I posted today the news in beginners and help section but my post was moved to Altcoin Discussion. There are almost no views there.

If we do end up with a Privacy and Security board, there should probably be a sticky explaining how to verify your damn downloads! There is no reason people should have fallen for this, except not following standard precautions.

I'm afraid I have no desire to venture in to the Altcoin boards, but are there are a lot of security or privacy related topics in there? Perhaps there are actually loads of topics that would fit better in a new board, its just that they are spread out across various boards at the moment so they never occupy 50% of any single board. I'm sure there are a handful in places like Bitcoin Discussion and Technical Discussion too.

I don't think it should necessarily be a sub-board of Beginners and Help, but rather just its own board under the "Other" category. Being an established bitcoin user doesn't automatically mean you have good privacy or security practices. There are plenty of users still using Google Chrome, not verifying downloads, losing coins to malware, having their accounts hacked, and so forth.

A separate board might be counterproductive in a scenario like with Monero. Who's going to visit that board? Maybe paranoid nerds like you and iasenko but probably not the users that most need it. Both beginners & help and altcoin discussion, as well as Monero official threads are good places for getting a warning out. Perhaps even scam accusations. If the existence of a special board causes such topics to be moved to it and out of sight of a larger group of users then that's not very useful.

That's not to say such a board is not needed, it's just not a good place for emergency notifications.

Hey! You've never complained about my nerdiness before. I thought it was endearing. Sad

You make a good point, but there's nothing to stop emergency announcements being cross-posted to multiple boards or threads, much like they were when the fake Electrum client was released. Having said that, I think you might have touched on a wider problem, in that such a board might just become an echo-chamber of nerds super-smart users discussing Tor and similar, where the people who really need advice on basic security and privacy practices will never venture.

Dont worry, soon spammers will make 40 pages there, or it will be buried under other spam posts

I'd like a similar board, only with strict moderation. There is a lot to discuss when it comes to privacy but I'm afraid a board like that will get litered with spam.

Talking about spam, to be honest, all most all the sections other than the Technical Discussion & technical Support are full of spam. Look at Help & Beginners or Bitcoin Discussion or any other boards; I can guarantee that 50% posts are spam & doesn't worth to have a read. If I start to ignore users, I will probably end with ignoring 80% of the active posters. That's why I don't look at some of the sections at all.

I guess- another board for Online Privacy & Security would not be much of interest for most people because they don't care about it at all. It can be discussed in the Help & Beginners board.

Exactly my thougths, I reckon the board would entice people to promote their own services.
