Are we all fools on believing the word "HOLD"?

Why are we going to be a fool on the word HOLD? We are the ones who will decide if we will gonna hold our coins or not. We can sell and we can buy us anytime we want. Why are we going to hold if the market is in an uptrend? Of course, we choose to sell it and make a profit right? So it also depends on the market.

It's sad to say that most of the altcoins you hold are down more than 90% in value and have no hope of recovery. If you want HODL, you must always check the status of the project, the activities of the community and the project team, whether they are operating in the right roadmap. If one of these is missing, you need to sell it immediately. I think you are too subjective and lacking in knowledge when not carefully examining those projects and keeping them up till now, and losing a lot of money.

I like to share my story being a crypto enthusiast, a trader and an investor at the same time.

I started in this forum in year 2015 when altcoins are still a good investment and Binance is still not the most popular exchange in the market.
I trade with Poloniex most of the time, sometimes I trade with Bittrex but then I realize that I am not so profitable with trading since I cannot focus on it due to the reason that i have a day job to prioritize.

Therefore, I started to invest for long term and I was entice by how the market moves and I was so optimistic that long term could really change my life.
So to make the story short, I invested with different altcoins and have help it until now.

Now, when the bull run comes, I still couldn't sell right away as I was getting greedy thinking I could earn more when I still hold.
of course, who would not HODL when all your friends in the group chat are also doing the same, even if the price rise high already, they are still saying HODL, and I really do it, and just sell a small portion of my investment to reward myself temporarily was I was into a big goal with my remaining investment.

And then, the correction comes started in year 2018, and I still didn't panic, continue to hold and even accumulate a bit when I see price has really dump a lot, just imagine ETH drop 10 times, so its really cheap and really tempting for any investors. So here I am now, I am still holding at a big loss but at the same time I am still hopeful one day my dreams will come into reality.

So top 10 of my portfolio consist of the following based on my blockfolio.

3) Centra
4) Humaniq
5) Matchpool
6) Lunyr
7) KIN
8.) FUEL

Please tell me if I should still expect I will be profitable or just give up now already.

This caught me because, i have this coins/tokens in the past and still holding now. But i'm not really believing in the world of hodl because it was a false not a fools. Hodling is good for the projects that have real value and already established their trustworthy in the market like the top 10 coins. But the problem is we never know how they will go back in a high price once again. The term hodl is good to the investors especially in the long run but not in some of the old tokens that has nothing to do with the market right now.

he didn't realize that because he is into a big goal to make a lot of money, its his decision to hold and as long as he believes the project he invested with are not scam, then the hope is their that it will recover as the market recovers.

on the list, only one coin I am familiar with that was turn into scam, and that was centra.

Maybe the goal was too high, he didn't sell in the last bull run which most of the coins have rise up x10 or more, so he has to pay the price now, but we cannot judge since he is still holding it and that means he doesn't loss anything yet.

I agree with you, in bull-run everyone on twitter, telegram and other social channels were shouting HODL HODL, but honestly, I didn't listen to anyone and straight cashed-out 50% of my total portfolio with huge huge profit which I can ever imagine in 10years job and hardwork. I'd suggest you to NEVER listen to anyone in crypto ALWAYS does whatever you believe in. Set a goal like at which point you'd sell your each crypto asset and when it hits your target price just do it, never listen to the influencers and crypto gurus over twitter and web. You'll be bombarded with newses in bull-market like huge partnership this and that happen with XYZ, and you get tempted to HODL instead of selling, but NO DON'T I REPEAT DON"T

Honestly i feel for the same trap in jan 2018, i had few good altcoins at the time and in fact i still went ahead and buy more instead of selling everything off, i have learnt a big lesson since that time and now even if bullrun don't come but market gives some few profits i won't hesitate to take out my profit

I think you are greedy to get a bigger profit so you don't sell it when prices go up or even when a bullrun occurs. And cutlost is an option if you no longer trust and use daily trading strategies to get profits or buy altcoin that you trust for long-term investments.

Holding it even we are in the bull market is a big mistake , there are many people has been experience this lost, becuase they believe that when holding it will increase its value sooner . if you are in profit  already take the profit and leave  dont wait for  dump will happen, its better to have sure earnings than gambling it for just hoping that it will increase more .

Yes, and it does include myself, having the same mistake as OP, instead of selling at ATH, I chose to hold and lost the opportunity of maximizing my profit. I was too greedy at that time and believe that crypto prices will increase more and will never go down.
So, now I learned my lesson and my current holdings will not be for hodl forever, I prepared myself to sell them when new ATH will come.

The past failures is making us stronger in times, it happens with a definite purpose. If we didn't come up with a good decision during bad days, we're still having the chance to move on. Holding had a meaningful value when we knew each coin capability, and someday we will be selling out these profitable coins once it reaches pumped price.

just like you, I am also a fan of long term holding and most of us really suffer with the long market struggle.

But if I can only change the time, I would have sold more during the last bull run so I don't need to wait longer now to see a possible next bull run.
Hopefully a new bull run will come next year because its halving schedule and its a good timing, and I am sure just like you OP, I am also gonna sell right away and will not make mistake holding again for another long period of time.

You are doing right from now, you still focus on future. Because you understand your wrong to be greedy. Every coin has right time to sell or swap to new coin, most of the don't understand the situation. Even if you had invested in Bitcoin before pump, you could sell it.

We are not fools, just because we are believing that holding right now is the best way to do to be able to survive in the current situation? I guess this is the right thing to do in order to avoid heavy and much losses. We must just hold our coins and both bitcoin and altcoins because I believe that the time will come that the market will recover again and that would be the exact time that we are waiting for. Just like the famous people here in the crypto, do not be greedy and just follow the movements of the current situation of the market and you will become successful. That's right what you have been said that all of the coins has the right time to pump and dump so let's just wait for our turn by just holding our belongings coin.

Token Holding is a good way to wait for better price developments. but if the price has reached the maximum limit of the existing price, what are you waiting for?
because in trade, we really want profit.

Greedy and believing that things will get higher and then continually holding on to whatever changes in market demand and trends, that's a big mistake for us but we should not think that we are stupid because this market offers so many great conditions, falling into a trap is normal. But at least, when people fall into these traps, it will be a long development in the future, we will have more wisdom in the method of better holding and financial management, no longer is a user with blind thinking and holding forever

It's a nice story OP and we are almost the same. I am also holding some coins in my portfolio and until now I didn't see my profit was there. Back then year 2017 is good to cash out if we know but the word HOLD was still in our mind and reminds us that possible we earn more profit if we hold a long time. I was trying to forget my altcoins holding now in my portfolio, I let them sleep in my wallet and hoping someday it will pump again. There's a promising event that gave me strength to stay HOLD, the next blockchain halving scalability.

Yes, most of us experience that feeling, which is hope, but after a difficult time of the market, we realize that money is the most important thing, and sometimes cutting losses is what must do.
As for Centra, there are a lot of articles about their CEO getting arrested, so I think he hasn't been following the market for a long time.

Your list appears to be only altcoins that are not in the top 50 in market cap. I suggest that you be careful with minor altcoins. I would make those a small part of a portfolio that includes some Bitcoin and a few major altcoins like Ethreum, EOS, Tron, etc.

I agree with that phenomena because we hold only when we see the market and we look at the past of the bitcoin market. We know that the position of crypto is very better and is going to get more stronger that is why we are holding and waiting for a great bullrun.

Unless cryptocurrencies are not prohibited it is quite reasonably to hold them because they may grow up at any moment of time and an investor will earn money. On the contrary having sold coins right now an investor will probably not earn much because the market is on lows. I plead not to accept my assumption as a use-case because there are some coins which are absolutely junk and have to be sold to save money invested into them. I sold almost all junk coins which I had. I am holding the most valuable and prospective coins in hope of the future grow. I could give as an example several coins which I have but I do not want to advertise them.
