Are we all fools on believing the word "HOLD"?

The thing is that there are people who are too hopeful without realizing that they are living already in a fantasy. The movement of the price way back 2017 is very unusual in a sense that the price had rose so high that it became suspicious and I’ve been telling my friend to sell it when the price had touched around $20000 but he had been blinded by the excessive hype and FOMO due to some speculations that it would rose even higher or that it would be the new floor but everyone who had enough time spent in the cryptoworld know about he price correction.

like for example what ? what is that fanatasy you mean ?  cryptos or any other stuff ?  .  they wont ask or hope for more if these things are already enough for them but people are known to be not contented on what they have . i guess that is the reason why   .

we are not fools if we believe in the word hodl  but fool means that you are not smart or something like that  . hodlers are people that are in this business before because they know how crypto work

he is not just holding ETH and BTC, he is holding a lot of coins and in fact he shared his top 10 coins that he is still holding until now.

So top 10 of my portfolio consist of the following based on my blockfolio.

Please tell me if I should still expect I will be profitable or just give up now already.

As you can see, all of the coins listed have drop or has been affected by the bear market and there is no guarantee that it will recover anytime soon since its' been almost 2 years or 2 years already that the market is struggling and in fact we will end another year soon with the same situation.

Agree, many people live in the 2017 era too long, they blindly believe in the future of many cryptocurrencies and the result they received was that these cryptocurrencies betrayed their trust, they were not stupid, they are just too greedy and don't keep up to date with the market, they follow the trend but don't realize that the old trend has been replaced. But their imagination may have been broken in recent years when many potential cryptocurrencies repeatedly crumbled, their holdings have been replaced by short-term plans, no longer as stubborn as in the past.

It's almost a year and still holding, why? no chance to sell at a reasonable price.

Altcoins had a small run but seems like my coins are now beaten by the hype of the De-Fi.

All back to you. If you are working not only in the crypto world, yes you better hold the coin because now the price of the coin you hold has dropped. Who knows from that coin there’s one that’s back up.

But it’s different if you’re earning only on crypto and you’re not sure about the coins you still hold this time, it’s better to sell them, before they become worthless and no one is interested in buying them anymore. Obviously the coin has declined in demand, and if you keep hold of it, it will turn ash.

It depends on what coins you hold and if you have done basic research on the tokens before buying into them.

If the investment is a speculative investment the I would say better not hold and sell at a profit. But if you have done research and following the project regularly then makes all the sense to hold.

Exactly, its not wrong to hold if that's what you believe the best strategy to gain more profit. But if you're holding despite the price is already acceptable to take profit then its your choice and decision to keep holding.

The strategy of holding is not for everyone who dont have patience to wait for the right time to sell. Plus this is only applicable for established coins that are unlikely to be delisted in exchanges.

I have read from someone who said HODL on this forum, that person was drunk so he typed the sentence hold into hodl, and back then it was not from the team name, but if currently hold is used as a team name in cryptocurrency maybe it could be.

HODL has deeper meaning than hold, that means "hold on for dear life", so you can't call it greediness when such person hold that long as he was just living according to its meaning.  https://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/hodl.asp

Let's just say sometimes we make bad decision and holding too could be a bad decision only if we can't continue to hold and we can't see based on our expected value.

Indeed. Holding is not for everyone who doesn't have the patience to wait for the right time to sell it, especially for those who are greedy to earn a profit after buying cryptocurrencies. But holding a coin can genuinely help you make a good profit if you invest in a coin that can grow in the future like bitcoin and other top altcoins in the market. It is why many investors are buying DeFi projects nowadays.

I like to share my story being a crypto enthusiast, a trader and an investor at the same time.

I started in this forum in year 2015 when altcoins are still a good investment and Binance is still not the most popular exchange in the market.
I trade with Poloniex most of the time, sometimes I trade with Bittrex but then I realize that I am not so profitable with trading since I cannot focus on it due to the reason that i have a day job to prioritize.

Therefore, I started to invest for long term and I was entice by how the market moves and I was so optimistic that long term could really change my life.
So to make the story short, I invested with different altcoins and have help it until now.

Now, when the bull run comes, I still couldn't sell right away as I was getting greedy thinking I could earn more when I still hold.
of course, who would not HODL when all your friends in the group chat are also doing the same, even if the price rise high already, they are still saying HODL, and I really do it, and just sell a small portion of my investment to reward myself temporarily was I was into a big goal with my remaining investment.

And then, the correction comes started in year 2018, and I still didn't panic, continue to hold and even accumulate a bit when I see price has really dump a lot, just imagine ETH drop 10 times, so its really cheap and really tempting for any investors. So here I am now, I am still holding at a big loss but at the same time I am still hopeful one day my dreams will come into reality.

To begin with, you are not a fool for believing the word HOLD (or HODL) but before thinking of Holding any coin there is need to be selective on the type of coins, those holding Bitcoin or Ethereum will hardly complain, regret or think of selling at loss. This is because, most coins today are not worthy to be held for long term, thus once someone sees a good price, just sell off and move on. Also, most coins which were created before now, or let me say 2018 are no where to found now, now imagine someone who bought such coins. Additionally, some of the coins you listed are hardly heard of, at least in my own understanding.
Therefore, my own opinion is this, check those whose team are still very much active, check their development plans and know when to sell and for those whose team aren't serious sell off all and hold Bitcoin or Ethereum.
Also, from another angle, some of those coins or all of them might not reach their All Time High (ATH) again or anything close to it, so you will still weigh your losses, check your options and move on.
