Are we all fools on believing the word "HOLD"?

HODL just like a life changing term to all the crypto lovers. If anyone have continuous patience and have genuine coins/tokens holding on their wallet then there will be no time bound. HODL today, in order to secure your life later. I have been HODling for quite a while now and I'll continue this thing as long as I am in crypto.

There's nothing wrong with Hodl. it's just that we have to remember again that the core of our investing (long term and short term) is to get a profit. hodl is very important if we know when to hold our investment and be patient not to sell, but there are times when the market is good, and we get the opportunity to get maximum profit, why wait longer? even though the goal of hodl is to get maximum profit, right? do not forget the investment fundamentals to continue to prioritize profit first

Now, when the bull run comes, I still couldn't sell right away as I was getting greedy thinking I could earn more when I still hold.
of course, who would not HODL when all your friends in the group chat are also doing the same, even if the price rise high already, they are still saying HODL, and I really do it, and just sell a small portion of my investment to reward myself temporarily was I was into a big goal with my remaining investment.

And then, the correction comes started in year 2018, and I still didn't panic, continue to hold and even accumulate a bit when I see price has really dump a lot, just imagine ETH drop 10 times, so its really cheap and really tempting for any investors. So here I am now, I am still holding at a big loss but at the same time I am still hopeful one day my dreams will come into reality.

So top 10 of my portfolio consist of the following based on my blockfolio.

You are partly like and I have similar experience. I too have been holding some tokens that have good value in beginning and I thought their prices would go up because they seems to have huge potential but today their value has reduced to almost zero.
In the other hand I am also holding eth and btc and holding them upto now has given me a lots of profit.

Oh. So sad. What are those? I know only KIN and while I remember some of these names, these are all some obscure coins today. Maybe they were hyped early when you got them.
I know that this post is from 2019 too, and it is important to notice for any beginner that is building an altcoin portfolio.
While we have so many priced at billions of dollars market caps today, most probably they will end like all these.

There are some projects that are working, but probably just 1%. Like in the dot-com bubble way too many were just hyped and pointless.

You are taking too big a risk by HODLing coins that are not top 10. Of course if the 10 coins you have are really insulted, you will get a huge profit, because some of the coins you have are new coins after ICO. And unfortunately, the ICO project on those coins ended up flawed and failed to carry out the business model according to investors' expectations, making it no longer attractive to monitor.

Of course, you will get different things if you choose top 10 coins such as BTC, ETH, XRP, LTC or even DOGE. You will get a super big profit on the investment you make.

Some holding claims are distracting while the whales and big holders are dumping. At the moment any hold beyond BTC and ETH maybe disaster because 50% of the top 100 coinmarketcap are likely to loss their position after the bear market. I will always advice a short time hold; not holding to far from the parabolic BTC market pump and altseason that comes after. We need to learn shifting position at a point and maximizing the stable coin or fiat.

Seriously I see this coin you're hodling as shitcoins. I think you got them while they where hyped, the best option is to sell when you have a profit. You need to know and go through a project before Hodling, I too have been holding some coin for long long now, like the trx, I started holding from late 2019 and still holding till date I've made and sold out some but still got cool profit. Too bad this things happens sometimes,is just the market (loss&profit).

Anyone holding many good top ranked coins, even bought at high prices of 2017-2018, should be doing relatively fine. Cashing out a small portion after any big rise can  lower risk.

It is easy for anyone to say that it is best to hold as long as possible and then you will definitely make money. However, many strange situations happen in life and you have to make a decision to sell, even at a great loss. I am also in favor of the fact that cryptocurrencies will always give you money in the long term (apart from shitcoins), but to HODL it you need not only patience, but also financial security.

For good coins but how can you determine the bad ones? Choosing isnt as simple as it sounds because there would be lots of considerations or factors or criterias for you to depend on
on making out some choices but no doubt that hodling could really give out that kind of opportunity to make money or profits but not all projects or coins would really be heading on the
same route or path on where neither they do pump or simply staying low in price for how many years due to lack of support and liquidity which would really be resulting into
some stress because of anticipation of hoping that much.Believing on HODL doesnt mean that youre a fool because there are really opportunities that do result with this

maybe you misunderstood the word "Hold" .. because "Hold" in cryptocurency has a maximum time limit. if you pass this time then you will incur a big loss. and in the end you will be wasted. In addition, you are holding some coins that have no good development and potential in the future so you feel fooled like now.

I wouldn't say hold (actually HODL) stands for the maximum holding time of your investment. There is really no maximum time to hold an investment. The investment itself must be completed sometime. In HODL, the idea is not to worry about large price drops, because sooner or later the deflationary structure of the cryptocurrency will defend itself and the price will go higher than the previous ATH. So answering the question from topic of this thread - no it's not stupid - HODLers are always winning so far.

I think you made the wrong decision because you bought shitcoin and held it for a long time. because not all coins can last long at the top. there will definitely be a time for them to come back down. Bump! Are you still on loss? I hope you got the pump from npxs and gain more with over 100+% gain. But if you forgot that coin, I believe SONM is on its move again. But some in this portfolio is really some shitcoins.

Holding it even we are in the bull market is a big mistake , there are many people has been experience this lost, becuase they believe that when holding it will increase its value sooner . if you are in profit  already take the profit and leave  dont wait for  dump will happen, its better to have sure earnings than gambling it for just hoping that it will increase more .

I think for the market like this holding is not a good option but sometimes if the project is for long term and keep improving I will definitely hold. I think its depends in what token we're holding and unluckily for OP that he hold crypto tokens does not perform well. We can sure our capital first then risk all if we can. I also experienced that with Minexcoin, I do believe that they can be the future of staking and they also launch their Minexbank. I also let my token in their wallet and stake their knowing that they will become more valuable in upcoming years and now they gone along with my token.

Of the several portfolios suggested by the OP, it seems that none of these altcoins can provide benefits at this time, and I am sure if the current OP starts to regret its decision to hold these altcoins, I personally would prefer some altcoins that do have a concept, as well as a roadmap clear before deciding to hold some altcoins, because following what the OP is doing is tantamount to me burning my money.

I also experienced that with Minexcoin, I do believe that they can be the future of staking and they also launch their Minexbank. I also let my token in their wallet and stake their knowing that they will become more valuable in upcoming years and now they gone along with my token.

There were many coins that started before the last bull run with huge promises and many of the projects said they had hurdles overcoming regulatory issues and if i remember correctly the Minex bank by the minexcoin also had issues with the authorities giving them the license and that is what is said by the developers and then they left the project. We can see many projects that had the same story and i only know what they said but they all collected money and then they were able to keep majority of the money and never compensated the investors.

That portfolio of altcoins was too unfamiliar to me.  Maybe it has been longer when I come back, some of that portfolio is still valuable, most of it shitcoin.  Holding is only beneficial if it chooses an appropriate audience, holding also needs to analyze and target prices in the short, medium or long term.  Whenever, please pay attention to the development of the project and news from the team.  I assume you wasted your time on useless things ( most of them become worthless )
 I think let's clean those things up to cultivate new and better breeds.

I'd still believe in the word Hold for about a couple of weeks. Seeing it Rising in value I'll hold on to it much longer seeing how it will increase. But, once it's declining for the first week, you'd better do something as soon as possible, cause it might be a coin with no value at the end. Do your own strategy to act now or hold on to it a little longer. Its really a risk for trading.
