While I love the optimism, people need to think twice about buying and holding their bitcoins. By any means, don't sell your current house, car or whatever valuable things you have right now just for the sake of buying bitcoin. Some people make that mistake and eventually decide to do a suicide in 2018.

Don't forget that you have to live in the present, even though you can get 1 million dollars 5 years in the future.

yeah I think so too, when the number of bitcoins that can be mined is rare, the total supply cannot be increased, the development is inevitable if bitcoin is known to the whole world, but in the future maybe is impossible not what we expect, some things can greatly affect bitcoin, such as quantum computers, of course I don't expect that to happen

This should be the basis of small investors in the cryptocurrency especially in Bitcoin community, if we can think about the total volume of bitcoins, it is quite inducing a good feeling of pride if we hodl 1 BTC. Thus, we know in ourselves that we have a contribution to the BTC market. Right now, I am targetting to hodl and stick to bitcoin till I reach 1BTC, after this, if I find that I can be capable of accumulating more, I would like to encourage people because basically if we have a proof of holding even 1 BTC, we have a huge power to induce market adoption and refer bitcoin to others.

For example, bitcoin holders who want to donate 1 bitcoin per person can earn depends on the population who contributed to the donation. By this, you can change someone's life by the help of 1 bitcoin donation.
Why would any bitcoin holder decide to simply "donate" 1 BTC per person??! This is not 2010 anymore. The early adopters are already among the "Wealthy Elite". They have as much incentive in "spreading the love" as any other philanthropist has in distributing their wealth. Nobody does that.

What people like you and me have to realize now that you have to work your asses off and choose to be paid in BTC instead of Fiat. Then you have to choose to not spend that BTC for your daily needs but hold them in the hope that it will moon. This, in my opinion, is a very optimistic scenario.
Pierre Rochard is one of those early adopters who suggested that bitcoin will change the definition of money. It will become Money replacing US Dollar as the de-facto reserve currency.  This scenario seems to be getting harder to achieve because Governments are now actively engaging to take the narrative in the direction of "Govt backed cryptocurrency". The whole "Libra hearing" drama is just the background to this.

I don't know why but nobody seems to be talking about this. At least, none of the people who seem to be the wealthy evangelists are saying anything about it on twitter or other social media. The only people who are risking themselves shouting about it from the rooftops, are ridiculed and considered crackpots. McAfee for example.

So the optimism and Sig campaign compulsions notwithstanding, I don't think we are going anywhere when it comes to real adoption and usage of BTC as of now. People are simply lording over their niches and fiefs with no guidance towards the future.

And what will happen to bitcoin when mining becomes unprofitable?

Valid question. But well, Lets not talk about it because...meh, It'll rise anyway..There is the halving. /s
Welcome to the cult!

The concerns about mining profitability are generally addressed by quoting two things.
1. Adoption will rise sufficiently so that the number of transactions are huge  (Using LN), and the settlement fees will be sufficient to keep miners going.
2. The price of bitcoin will rise ridiculously so that even fractional BTC earned from the coinbase transaction will have sufficient value.

All depends on adoption, for which people are working very hard on "Twitter". The other hope is that the technology becomes important enough to be used everywhere for which people have been searching for use-cases for half a decade without much success.

This is some 3-month-old news, and people are still surprised what some Brian writes on his twitter about Bitcoin. His opinion is not important at all, nor is it something he invented in his head, different people have been saying this for years, but they are a lot smarter than Brian. If you're wondering why, well Brian tells you this in 2019 when the price of Bitcoin is $8000, others tell the same thing when price of Bitcoin was only several hundred dollars.

It is never too late to go on the mission "I will have 1 BTC", smart people find ways to do it, without compromising their financial stability. But there is no guarantee that owning 1 BTC will really mean anything in 5 or 10 years, it's all a game that can end successfully, but also with a negative outcome.

Love when people say it's dead.Crypto is only 1 decade old. Just imagine a few years or decades more. Patience could really pay off on altcoins. I see it as a once in a lifetime deal. HODL, if you have money . Who risks nothing has nothing. It could happen again be ready or not.

It's doesn't need to be a CEO of Coinbase to say that, if you analyze the potential of Bitcoin over the years and for years to come, you will end up with a huge motivation to accumulate as many Satoshis as you can, it doesn't have to be one Bitcoin right away, this is the weak alibis of none believers and newbies always saying Bitcoin is expensive, $10 worth of Bitcoin every week can actually make a difference over the years.

This is the kind of stuff I hate to read from people who I consider old blood as far as the forum is concerned. Maybe not to the general bitcoin ecosystem but at least to the forum you can be considered a veteran. It's quite preposterous to say that He is just "some Brian"..LOL This is the CEO/ Co-founder of coinbase you are talking about, the largest , most influential cryptocurrency exchange in USA.

So saying something like "His opinion is not important" is pretty stupid. Brian has had a consistent stand towards enabling Open financial systems and for everyone to be able to have access to finance irrespective of their country and screw-ups by their respective Governments. (Say, Zimbabwe, Venezuela). His Vision statement on the blog is pretty genuine if you want to have a look. For any newbies wanting to understand how cryptocurrency can actually affect the world, its a must watch.

It's a life changing. I couldn't disagree with it, the moment I have met bitcoin, that's the time my life started to change. I do have some purpose and gave my life some lights. What more if I own one whole bitcoin? I own just some part of it but having a dream and a goal that can possibly reach 1 or more bitcoin is really near to happen.

On the other hand, it is not only about the financial status bitcoin will bring and will change one's life but also the change of digital payments and the advanced technology that will change how the world's traditional system works.

Well it really does change one's life. Its a great achievement for me if I can reach that 1btc. Even for a little signature campaign pay gives me happiness, how much more for that 1 btc. Its a good start to goal for 1btc now and eventually increase it sooner when it comes. Changing one's life is maybe different from person to person. It depends on our needs and lofe status. But whatever or how much it is, we are the one's responsible on how to change our life for a better and productive way.

I think this is his exact words:

Quote
For better or worse, I do think owning one whole Bitcoin will increasingly become a big deal. Only 21M will ever be produced, and some people already own much more than one.

https://twitter.com/brian_armstrong/status/1165307728740270080

Obviously, for majority of bitcoin enthusiast we really think that eventually the price will go to the moon in the next coming years. But for no-coiner, it's hard to preach that because they don't understand what HOLDing means. Owning 1 BTC is not that hard, and newbies think that they have to invest 1 BTC quick. But for me the approach is that you should invest what you can afford to lose, maybe you can buy just a portion and in no time you could be a member of 1 BTC club.

One BTC for majority is very expensive. A good strategy is to buy at different rates rather to buy complete BTC at one rate. Let's say you buy few satoshis at current rate, few at next dip. In this way your average price of BTC is very reasonable.

for now even in some countries 1 BTLC has been able to change a person's life. we can see with the amount of 1 btc can be done for anything, for me the amount of 1 btc is a large amount and it can be doubled in a larger amount of profit.

Patience could really pay off on altcoins.

More likely that patience will be rewarded with - fuck all.

I expect Bitcoin to still be here in some form in another decade or more. I really, really can't see the average alt being anything more than a forgotten footnote that'll be looked back on and laughed at.

As for Mr. Coinbase, I wonder how much he paid in therapy to summon the courage to write the word 'Bitcoin' for the first time in several years? It must have caused him a great deal of psychic pain so I assume he was surrounded by yogis, healers and was being breast fed while he typed it with shaky fingers.

Note he did add 'for better or worse' as a small out.

I'd love to know why so many of these large crypto companies actively dislike the one thing keeping them afloat. I guess it's because it's bigger than them.

I mean having  btc right now with its current price is enough to make a change in some people's life, in a few years the price might go up to the moon your whole financial life will be different, some of the early holders have become millionaires because of it, and that could be us if we just have the patience and faith in it, i mean it is crazy how bitcoin is changing the whole world not in terms of currency but everything, the blockchain technology is becoming more and more popular and that could only comeback with good things for us crypto users.

As of today one Bitcoin is worth around $7800, not bad for an actual organic price. Many people are upset because the price isn't anywhere near $20,000 anymore. Thats silly because at that particular time, the price was heavily inflated and anyone who is an avid investor knew a bubble like that one a few years ago, was destined to pop. WHen it did deflate considerable=y. I'm sure many band-wagoners who jumped into crypto after hearing about the price rise had lost the shirts off of their backs.
If one Bitcoin was worth next to nothing and now one is worth $7800, I'd say that there is a life changing amount to some people. I could use that to pay off my debts and buy a beater car off craigslist before the winter comes, they don't plow snow good in my area, so being a pedestrian suck!  Undecided

1 BTC in my country is more than a year's salary of a regular employee. If 1 BTC goes $20K again, its worth a fortune, I can even buy a new car for that. Since time those against BTC had been writing obituaries for bitcoin but to them BTC keeps rising up from ash when it didn't really died. 1BTC can change people's lives, it changed my life that I don't go out smoking pot anymore since I kept learning to trade, it kept me busy.

Other's said 1 btc is enough and it is true. with the current price of btc it can support your life for many months or even years or if you have a unique idea you can grow it even more. do a business or take a risk on trading and it is your choice whether you can change your life or not. with that huge amount of money if you convert it you can also help others. everyone can guarantee that btc are all worth in present and in future. if you have 1 btc it is enough to change your miserable life or you will gamble it to gain more? we can start a new beginning with that amount of money.

Brian is just interested to get more money in his pocket, and despite his positive attitude, the idea of "open financial systems" is not something Coinbase can promote as centralized company working under US law.

The problem of you and most others here in the forum (or in general) is that you admiring individuals who do nothing but get rich under the slogan "We are for Bitcoin!. What Brian is saying is that we need to buy more Bitcoins so he and his mates can get more money from fees.

One man is nothing, strength is in numbers - at least Satoshi was aware of this, which is why he decided that an individual should never be above the project as a whole.

I believe in this thing too, but it is not that easy to have 1 Bitcoin for now, still it is a large money specially in third world countries like here. An ordinary person doesn't have that much money to buy 1 Btc, and won't risk their money just for it. They will just make money as freelancer but it is hard for everyone of us to invest with that amount especially that crypto is too risky, you don't know what will happen today and tomorrow.
