Please forgive me if its a stupid question, I have been away from Crypto for a few years, I live In Canada and I have  not been active and now am getting back to crypto, I use to use Blockchain.com wallet , is that wallet still good? and Does it matter which country I am in for wallet.  I registered with coinsquare  as a platform to buy bitcoins, but I heard  that it can take up to 4 days to  move BTC from there after purchase, is that true, I remember on localbitcoins it used to be much quicker but the price was higher obviously, so is coinsquare the best way to buy bitcoins for Canadians.  what wallet would you recommend for mobile.

Thank you.

I recommend you to switch to another wallet, save your blockchain wallet seeds and import it to electrum. Web wallet is not good option to store your coin for too long or store huge amount of it.

Does it matter which country I am in for wallet.
I believe there's no restriction about that.

what wallet would you recommend for mobile.
Mycelium, since i use it, also electrum has mobile version too, since electrum is one of the most popular wallet nowadays.
If you want to store multiple coin, maybe try coinomi.

Blockchain wallet is good for trading purpose, if you looking to Hold then read this article to choose a Bitcoin wallet - https://cointikka.com/best-cryptocurrency-wallet/ and it does not matter which country you are in.

I do not think it can take 4 days to move BTC. It is only takes few minutes to a max 30 minutes for BTC to be transferred. I think the verification process with coinsquare can take upto 4 days.

You can check their FAQ here - https://coinsquare.com/faq

There are many good wallets out there for mobile platforms, Personally I don't suggest blockchain because it is a custodial wallet, I'm a blockchain com user before but I switch to a non-custodial wallet (Decentralized which you hold your private key). I used coinomi wallet recently and haven't got any problem with it. Coinomi is a mobile platform based application.

I can only suggest localbitcoins because I tried their services and got no problem with it. I'm not familiar with coinsquare though.

I wanted to build upon some advice that has already been given in this thread:

  • Instead of exporting your seed from blockchain and import it into electrum, it's better to create a brand new electrum wallet, then move all funds from blockchain to electrum. The seed generated by blockchain might be compromised (or at least, it has bigger odds of being compromised compared to a clean seed generated freshly on a clean pc running a verified version of electrum)
  • Coinomi seems secure right now, but it has had some serious security vulnerability's in the past, and i didn't like the way they handled these (other wallets have had vulnerability's aswell, but imho, they handled these issues more gracefully)
  • If you stay away from online wallets and stick to desktop, paper or hardware wallets, your country is not important. As soon as you start using an online platform, they are the ones in controll of your funds, so they can block you or kick you out for any reason (including, but not limited to, your country of residence)
  • It does not take 4 hours to move funds. Transactions are allmost instant, confirmations can take a while (on AVERAGE, one block is found every ~10 minutes, however, depending on, for example, your feerate it might be possible your tx doesn't end up in the next block). The problem here is that you use an online platform, so this platform can chose whatever timeframe they want to process your withdrawal. If they chose to wait 4 hours before creating the withdrawal transaction, you'll have to wait 4+ hours to get your withdrawal transaction confirmed. This has nothing to do with the bitcoin protocol, and everything to do with the policies of the web wallet provider you picked
  • Electrum is fine as a mobile and desktop wallet (CHECK the signature, if ThomasV didn't sign, don't run the binary). IF you decide to invest more than a couple hundred bucks in crypto currencies, don't cheap out and buy a ledger or a trezor hardware wallet... If you're a cheapass, at least use a PROPERLY generated (bip38 encrypted) paper wallet to store bigger amounts, or use an old laptop/pc as airgapped wallet. Keeping a lot of funds on a web wallet, mobile wallet or even a desktop wallet is asking for troubles in the longrun

Does it matter which country I am in for wallet.

In accordance with FATF recommendations on cryptocurrencies published this year, it will. You may find out that if you visit Iran/North Korea/any other blacklist country and try to log in there, your e-wallet account may become suspended and a deep through verification of you will be obligatory. This may as well apply if you will make first cryptocurrency transfer being equivalent of at least $1000/if you are using VPN.

These changes are expected to be widely introduced next year. And FATF stands behind all these banking and card payment system KYC and AMLP procedures coming into being since 9/11

what wallet would you recommend for mobile.

Thank you.
Electrum or greenaddress choose anyone you like and save the recovery seeds in hard copy, not in any digital format.Blockchain.com wallet is good but it often has bugs, lags and issues with showing up the balances.

Bitcoin is a decentralized currency so you will not be affected by the state to send/receive bitcoin from your wallet, but you may be affected if you decide to buy or sell because it may go through central platforms.
Localbitcoin is P2P service and acts as an escrow meaning you are buying from vendors and the platform provides a warranty
Try downloading the wallet from this link: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet
for Moblie:
Samourai Wallet or greenaddress wallet

If you wondering to hold your fund for long time then I will suggest to buy hardware wallet like Ledger. New Ledger-X even could be use on smart phone. You may buy bitcoin from different sources but I will never encourage for store your crypto assets there. Just move your fund after bought. When you will use web wallet like coinbase and coinpayment there is restrictions for some jurisdictions. Because you have to pass KYC. But if you use wallet clients like Bitcoincore and electrum then you don't need to think about KYC. You may store there if amount isn't big. But still I will suggest to use Hardware wallet to avoid hack issues. As far as I know even Blockchain dot com wallet ask for KYC (I think not mandatory but I might be wrong).

It's important to differentiate between an exchange and a web wallet. Coinbase is an exchange, not a web wallet. Blockchain.com is a web wallet.

As far as I know even Blockchain dot com wallet ask for KYC (I think not mandatory but I might be wrong).
If you are only using their wallet service, then you don't have to kyc verify yourself. If you claim their 'free' shitecoin giveaways, or you plan to buy Bitcoin through their platform, then you have to kyc verify yourself. That's how the situation is right now. I wouldn't be surprised if even their basic wallet service will eventually require kyc verification.  Lips sealed

Blockchain.com is also obeying certain international laws, especially those concerning the USA and their recommendations. There is a part in their TOS which is saying :

13.1 No Violation of Law. You represent and warrant to us that you: (a) are not located in, under the control of, or a resident of any Restricted Location or any country to which the United States has embargoed goods and services; (b) are not identified as a “Specially Designated National” by the United States Treasury Department; and (c) shall not use the Services if you are prohibited by any applicable law, regulation, or rule from doing so.

From this, it can be concluded that all the countries that are on the USA blacklist will not be able to use this site as an exchange since users need to do KYC, but maybe using of web wallet is not so strictly controlled.

is that wallet still good?
Good or bad is relative. I always advice people to keep their private coins private. That is use a desktop wallet to store coins and not a online service. I am sure you being a long timer would remember what happened to MtGox at one time.

Quote
and Does it matter which country I am in for wallet.
Your country is irrelevant for wallet. But to use their other services like buying and selling crypto you would need to be located in one of their supported countries.

Alternative to LBC is now localcryptos previously started as localEthereum. However check your local residential friends who are also using bitcoin as to what exchange they commonly use. North America countries are supported by many exchanges so you should not have any trouble with this if you do some inquiry. I cant help you more on this.

Your question does not sound stupid at all considering the things we have come to know about service provision where you see some services being denied to you by virtue of the country you come from not because of you being a bad person or you violated some of their terms and conditions but just where you are located. But the good news about crypto and most importantly wallet providers is that there is no discrimination as to where or location you come from. You only need to have access to the internet and you are fine. Blockchain, we have read about some negative reviews from their end but its better you have a wallet that you absolute control the keys.

I recommend you to use hardware wallet named electrum, it is safe and it is a hardware wallet used by everyone. I prefer using hardware wallet, and it is available in the web just type electrum it does not matter where country are you in ,or you have other choices like use nano ledger or trezor it is highy recommended too. You may use exchange wallet too but be sure to put 2FA on it.

Electrum is NOT a hardware wallet, it is a desktop wallet!
Some hardware wallets (like trezor or ledger) can be used together with electrum, in this case electrum works as a watch-only wallet that simply creates new unsigned transactions, sends them to the hardware wallet for signing, receives the signed tx from the HW wallet for broadcasting. This setup is, in a lot of ways, similar to an airgapped setup but it certainly does not place electrum in the same league as hardware wallets.

They are still good but dont create another account i you no longer have access to your account, there are other better options in circulations.

Thank you.

Just stop using the online wallets and try to use only those wallet where you have private key in your control. I would recommend the below wallets which you can use and the your location or presence will not matter.

1Electrum Wallet.
2 Mycelium
3 Bread Wallet
4 Edge Wallet

Most online wallets will ask you for KYC and other such requirements. It is better to use desktop wallets or even hardware wallets if the bitcoin amount you hold is high.
If you want to buy bitcoins in canada, try this local bitcoins link. It will directly open the offers to buy from people in Canada.

I never know that online(web?) wallet need KYC, even blockchain doesn't need to do KYC to use it, except for exchange.
If you mean 'exchange wallet', that thing is not good to hold coins for long time.

I'm doing steam artwork.Official thread (Indo, but please pm me even if you're english speaker) : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5323281

I guess he is referring to Custodial wallet (for instance- Coinbase). Non custodial wallet doesn't require KYC for storing fund. But for Custodial, I guess KYC is needed for using it for beyond the limit. Coinbase has limitation on NON-KYC accounts. You can send certain amount of BTC without KYC and will have to go through a lenghty process while with KYC, you are free to send big amount as well.
