My account was hacked a few years ago, and I've recently come back from a break. When i tried to log into it the PW had been reset. I tried to reset via email but that had been reset as well.

So I made a new account thinking maybe the account had been deleted but when I looked the account up today I found out it is still active and being used.

Anyone have any advice on what to do?

I can provide some proof that the account is mine.

The account in question is riso2015  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=355231

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1362574.msg13899066#msg13899066

That is the last post that I made. I had a minor freak out and decided I was done with this forum and I left. Recently as I said I came back and found it had been hacked shortly after.

First, tell us the name of your account. Then, sign a message from a staked address of the account and if the signature is valid, we will neg tag the account so the hacker stop doing what he is doing now.

And finally, follow this thread to recover your account: Recovering hacked/lost accounts

Why havent you said that since you woke up from a break and your new account was created, and I've seen you publish a few posts before you reveal your old account has been hacked or stolen.

So I made a new account thinking maybe the account had been deleted but when I looked the account up today I found out it is still active and being used.

If you have proof of a signed  message  with your bitcoin address, you have the rights to that account. But if you cannot prove that you are the real owner, then you will only waste time. I think.

Follow the steps as said here.
And finally, follow this thread to recover your account: Recovering hacked/lost accounts

From my finding, I found out in your trust settings that your account was up for sale on February 16, 2015. The account also posted in the Indonesian board after then.
(Archive)
You attempted to sell your account and I'm sure you sold it.

Hope I get accepted! This campaign seems to be one of the best around!

(Archive)

You can proof ownership by signing a message from this address you staked on July 2015. But I'm not sure that will solve anything in your case.

Edit: you should move this topic to investigation or reputation.

If the account was hacked, why are there no changes in password according to bpip?

This is probably the second account hacked claim that I've read but there were no pw changes. Here's the other one https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4932173.0

That's true.
If the account was hacked, why didn't the hacker changed the password. He should login with the password to claim his account back. So many new accounts with same story everytime. But the account was up for sale before and the account seems to have changed hand.

This case looks more like a troll who may be trying to get someone's account locked.
This is one of the reasons account sales are highly discouraged, asides the fact that it gives a false impression of the account t owner and the trust ratings/merit score do not reflect the new owner of the account and anyone dealing with the account is at risk, the original account owner can come back months or years later to reclaim their account using a signed message or the original email used to register it.

My account was hacked a few years ago...

Few years ago?! And you are talking about it just now?  Roll Eyes

Looks to me like sold account, but maybe something can be done if you provided proof.

If the account was hacked, why are there no changes in password according to bpip?

According to OP, his last post was made on February 16, 2016, then there were a 1 year and a half gap in his post history so most probably the account changed hands / was sold between February 2016 and September 2017.

Vod started tracking sec logs since March 2018:
The mod log does not have a date stamp.  I just started tracking the datetime I parsed it.

I have been tracking the sec log since March 2018.

Unfortunately, you will not find any records on Bpip regarding password changes prior to that date.

The OP has followed the instructions and steps to recover a hacked account.
~snip
I've updated the OP with the correct info and followed the instructions in that post.
I think it will take time to recover it because he has to wait in line and I hope the OP will update the developments related to his efforts to recover this hacked account.

This is probably the second account hacked claim that I've read but there were no pw changes. Here's the other one https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4932173.0

The password for that account isn't working and the email associated with it was most definatley changed.

Also I understand the concerns with the account being sold. Put like that post I linked says, the account didn't sell, I said fuck it and left the community. No longer had an interest in btc.

I'm not sure how I can prove I didn't sell that account.

Like the account is literally my last name plus the year I got engaged. There's tons of references to domains that I owned and some that I currently still do own on that account. Such as that account posting several of those domains for sale.

There's tons of evidence supporting that I own that account, but I can't think of anyway to prove I didn't sell it. How do you prove that you didn't sell an account? Can any of you prove you haven't sold yours?

The forum name is Bitcointalk for a reason, don't you think?

If you are not interested in Bitcoin anymore, what is your reason to come back and tell this story?

To sell your account again?

The problem is not that you have sold it or not, the problem is that by trying to sell it before there is no way or way to prove that your account was hacked.

Well I've recently taken more interest in btc. Idc if I get the account back but I think its important that people know that account was stolen from me.

The last post you make is selling that account , after you sold that  account way back 2016 you want it to get back to you after those year?
If the account is really hacked why for those 3 years youll never do anything to get it back? and what did you do for those years ?

Login and tell us it is you.

If it is true your account was hacked and If you have followed the recommended instructions, then you can only wait for processing.

But you have tried to sell it there, so people will not be sure that you did not really sell at that time and left the community.

There is one way if you want to prove that the account was hacked, that is:
1. Show proof of e-mail sent by bitcointalk.org to spam messages regarding password and e-mail changes.
