I'm finding the Ledger S absolute rubbish on my Win10 64 laptop along with LL.
It's forever syncing or stuck on 'go to display screen om Ledger Device' or something similar.
It's taken me 3 days to add BTC, BCH and XRP ( i also hold another 10 coins at least!!)
It honestly sounds like some weird issue that would seem to be specific to your Win10 laptop and/or your Nano S device... dud unit? bad USB ports? bad driver install?
It is very strange. Do your accounts have hundreds/thousands of transactions or something?
Are you running via a VPN or TOR?
I have zero issues connecting/installing apps/uninstalling apps/adding accounts etc. It takes a matter of seconds to add/remove apps... and scanning/adding accounts takes less than a minute etc. But I only have like maybe 15-20 transactions in my accounts.
It is also quite possible that your device itself is bad. Maybe try and create a ticket with Ledger Support... see if they can help you troubleshoot the issues with your laptop/device combo and maybe get a new device if it is determined to be the source of the problem. It certainly shouldn't take more than a few minutes to get an app installed and an account setup in Ledger Live... let alone "hours"!!?!
I don't understand how people can say use the s as a backup and x fo use?
Surely they would just be to completely new wallets with different recovery keys/differnt password.?
Or are you relating to somehow combining the two?
Correct. You basically just have the same seed mnemonic restored on both devices... they will essentially be "clones" of each other... So, if one device breaks, you should be able to simply use the other device and it will have all the same wallets/accounts available etc.
Plus i have read that the S can now only hold 2 apps at a time with LL!!
It was never as low as "2 apps"... and it has nothing to do with Ledger Live... but with the fixed memory size of the device itself... and that some apps in the 1.5.5 firmware unfortunately ended up with an increased size that restricted the number of apps that could be stored on the device being lowered. I believe that it would generally be around 4 or 5 apps (depending on the specific apps used).
In any case, as of Firmware 1.6.0... vast improvements have been made and the app sizes reduced (particularly ETH), so it's now possible to have a much larger number of apps stored on the device at the same time. I got BTC, BCH, DOGE, LTC, ETH, STELLAR and XRP and I think I still have more room for apps.
EDIT - I have been tryimng for hours to add LTC, it's just stuck on 'Navigate to DASHBOARD on your Device'
I'm sure you're aware that the "dashboard" on your device is the screen that allows to you scroll through all the apps + settings option... you should NOT have any app "open" on the device... if you do, scroll to the "Quit App" option and select it.
