A guide to quoting posts in locked topics

X: the username of poster
Y: Click on the post you want to quote and copy what exists after "topic="
Z: Use epochconverter. Enter the exact time the post has been created and copy "Epoch timestamp"

The problem of this method is that you have to make the original post again and it's too time-consuming especially when there is a photo or a complicated code.

I found a better solution


Second method:

Quote a post in a topic which is not locked.
Then you should change the url.
Change the number exists after "quote=" to the number you see at the end of the url of the post you want to quote. (Don't change the number exists after "topic=" or you will get error.)

Using the new URL, you can quote the post in the locked topic. But the problem is that clicking on the quoted post will navigate you to a wrong page.
For solving this problem, change the number exists after "topic=".

Using this method there is no need to change the username of the poster and Epoch timestamp


Using the second method I could quote the post made by Theymos in a locked topic.

Being primarily a text-based forum, it's not surprising that there hasn't been much original bitcointalk.org art, but I've always thought that this has been a bit of a shame. Therefore, for bitcointalk.org's 10^th anniversary, let's have an art contest!

Prizes:
 - I will distribute at total of at least 1 BTC to the art submissions which I personally like the best, completely subjectively. I might give out more if there are a lot of good submissions.
 - I will give out a ton of merit, probably at least 500 in total, based mainly on effort.
 - Between 1 and 20 (depending on number of submissions) people will receive art contest recognition badges: , based mainly on community consensus of who had the best art. In judging consensus, I will be substantially but not entirely influenced by the total amount of merit your art received.

Post original bitcointalk.org art in this thread along with a Bitcoin address. Any art you post must be created by you. It should be related to bitcointalk.org, but need not be related specifically to its 10^th anniversary.

The contest ends Nov 22 18:04:28 UTC; submissions after that are not guaranteed consideration. BTC will be sent all at once, probably a few hours after the end time.

Keep this thread clean: only post art and discuss the art posted, staying very on-topic. No "reserved" posts, please -- it only clutters the thread. See this thread for more commentary, questions/answers, and comments.

Find the post you want to quote, and click on its title to reload the page to that specific post. Then copy the message number (last 8 digits) from the URL.

Then, in the thread you want to reply in, click on "quote" on any post. In the URL bar on the new page, paste over the 8 digits after "quote=" with your new 8 digits. Press enter.

To ensure the quote links properly, you then need to take the 7 digits after "topic=" from the original post (as in step 1), and paste them over the digits after "link=topic=" in the body of your reply.

I used this guide constantly and even adapted it for myself (by editing and saving it in a dead thread). But after I installed the [BPIP Extension - user info add-on], these citation options for me personally became no longer relevant. ^{Update information if possible.}

This version doesn't include the new feature yet. It's available only in the test version, which I wouldn't recommend for everyone, since it's more iffy than the "beta". I'll make a proper announcement in Meta once it rolls out.

AFAIK this relies on converting HTML to bbcode and may or may not (probably not) cover all possible HTML variations. My soon-to-be-released feature will fetch proper bbcode from Bitcointalk, which should make it about as good as regular quoting from unlocked threads.
