Hi all

First post here on the forum Smiley

My wife made an account on Binance, made a deposit with her credit card, and then transferred 0.05BTC to a guy. That’s the only thing she have used the account for.
Now I’m going to receive some BTC on my wife’s Binance account, and he is asking for my name, but as told it’s not the same a on the Binance account.

The question is, are there some way that he can see what name the account was made in?

Have a great day

Well, if is not at your name is not basically your account, i know a friend who was doing the same on another site, he was sending coins to an account own by his Filipino girlfriend, the exchange find out that he was using the account for shady purposes and the account almost got suspended.

So my advice is, use a wallet that you own the keys, and ask the guy to send the coins there, maybe he is asking for the name for some basic KYC.

Remember, not your keys not your coins.

By the way, hope to see you more often on the forum, nice to meet you new friend.

The subject needs to be explained, whether you are investing/transacting inside/outside binance. For Kyc users, only the binance party knows.

they ask for your own data that you have given them, while the data you provide when claiming your wife's next transaction, so that doesn't match, right?

nb: will remain anonymous if you do not send / link personal data in any form before.

This feels odds. So the guy wants to return the money to you via Binance? Did he not ask for your deposit address? Is he going to repay with Bitcoin too or is he going to pay with fiat?

If he's going to pay you with Bitcoin, most people would ask for your address and not your account name.

He won't be able to know your name just from the TX, unless he can get access to the exchange database.

Why would he need your name?
It is just the deposit address in BTC which needs to be given to that guy who will transfer it you.
But why Binance?
Why not a hard wallet?
This will be safer than sending it directly to an exchange.
Also, there is no KYC at Binance yet at that number of Bitcoin. That is still lower than 2BTC.

questions like this have already been discussed, I'm a little confused by your statement, your wife deposits bitcoin then transfers bitcoin to a man, then gets another bitcoin transfer, maybe you mean your wife is doing transactions outside of binance.

To answer your thread title, unless you have previously linked your name to a bitcoin address like joining a bounty or giveways contest (and in the process linked your BTC address to other personal information like name, social media accounts, resident address etc) no one can link your address to your name. In the scenario of using an exchange address, only those who have access to the database of that exchange either by been workers of the exchange or get their hands on stolen information resulting from a hack, nobody can link the address to your name unless you have done so yourself.

So try confirming from your wife if she has previously linked the address to her name by giving the guy her name. Also the whole situation look suspicious if there a way you can avoid dealing with this individual, you should.

Like the others have said the person who asked your name won't see the name under your Binance account unless he works for Binance.

Did you mention to the person sending you bitcoins that you're receiving it through Binance? I think the person who you're talking to just wants to know your name and not the name of the account you're using.

Is the one asking for the name Binance or the guy sending the Bitcoin? I don't really see a need for the guy to need your name, and I doubt it is really needed. That is, in the premise of the account not being used in anything else other than what you have stated. And besides, even if your wife did a KYC on Binance, the information would only be stored on Binances' database andbwouldn't be publicly available.

I think its your wife's name that he is supposedly asking since its your wife's Binance account. If you give your name the system would really reject it since the registered name is not the same. I think the guy you've mentioned is just saying that the system voided the name you replied. Its not really about that he know the Binance account name on it. By the way, is the guy you've mentioned is related to you or a close friend? Just wondering if you are transacting with that guy so possibly you've known him or your wife know him.

You can't know anyone's name on binance unless binance actually asks for KYC, nobody else could ask for it, just the binance itself. If the person who will send you money asks for your name that means he is trying to dox you and you should not give anyone your name ever, however if Binance itself asks for your name that means you are stuck on the KYC and you should give your name because that is a legal thing that they have to do.

If you feel like you don't want to share your name with someone, just open a wallet on blockchain.com and get paid there and when you want to cash it out just use localbitcoins or a place like that to trade your coins to fiat without giving your information to anyone. Those are the only options you have if you want to keep being in bitcoin world without giving your KYC.

The question is, are there some way that he can see what name the account was made in?

Have a great day

I assume that Binance knows the account holder’s name but no one else should be able to see that.

What can be possible is maybe that guy already know your name and your wife's name, he know that your wife make Binance account with her name, and then he ask your name, and you told him your name. And then he said it is different with Binance account which is your wife maybe already told him about the name. For other people, it is impossible to know other people's name in account except Binance itself. I think i will not focus on the aim your wife send that guy 0.05 BTC, but maybe to answer your question, that is the thing which only in my head.

May we know the full story of this? I have a bad feeling about the guy since he asked for a name which as said above is not needed in order to send coins.

There are a lot of cases where scammers would twist some stuff about how bitcoin (or anything related) works. Be vigilant.

So your wife sends BTC to a guy and the guy will send BTC to your account and the way to do it is learning your name first? It sounds you have been scammed already.

This is just how I understood it though. I could be wrong. If he gave his name to this scammer then he knew you and if you claim he had scammed you, he can track you since he knew your name. This is the kind of criminals that will terrorize the internet.  Cheesy

He won't be able to know your name just from the TX, unless he can get access to the exchange database.
I have the feels that the amount of 0.05 btc was given to a random guy might offering some good returns thru binance and then just simply have that alibi on asking its name
and telling that the name isnt the same which is total BS. Supposedly he would sent out btc therefore theres no need for those personal info, a btc address would already be enough.
If feel that his wife being scammed? what you think?

Since you said it is not the same as the binance account much better mention the name of the exchange or the wallet where you created your account. So that we know exactly what you are trying to say.

If you created account/wallet from the web or software the important thing they always ask is the bitcoin address if she is going to send a BTC you need to give your BTC address from the account/wallet you created. You don't need to give your name from any exchanges just provide your BTC address to your wife.

And actually there's no way to know if what is your name in your account if you are using other exchanges. Your wallet BTC address is enough to receive bitcoin from someone.

-Your wife made an account on Binance. Purchase BTC via credit card.
-She sends BTC0.05 to a guy
-You are expecting to received payment on the same guy?
-Now he wants your name.

Is this right?

You can just provide your wife's BTC address on Binance.

Why he needs your name?

Quick answer: NO

Even a Binance staff or customer support can't just do looked on that easily and I don't see any reason why should they do that.

Maybe that guy is just exchanging names with you. A friendly conversation indeed.

Even you provide your name, there is no way that guy can send you the funds. All he needs to know is your BTC address and it's fine to provide him your wife's Binance BTC address. I think there's a piece of the story we don't know so maybe you can consider posting the screenshot of your conversation with the guy, well only if you just think it's fine to post it here in public.

May we know the full story of this? I have a bad feeling about the guy since he asked for a name which as said above is not needed in order to send coins.

There are a lot of cases where scammers would twist some stuff about how bitcoin (or anything related) works. Be vigilant.
Same thoughts where that person is just making some invalid way on sending those coins thats why he do ask for a name then give out a reason that the name isnt the same which a possible reason that he wont able to sent those coins back.

We have known these kind of modus in the past.If that guy wont sent out those btc's after she gave out his own wallet address then shes definitely dealing with a scammer.

Maybe that guy is just exchanging names with you. A friendly conversation indeed.

Possible but the guy argue that he do have different account name which we can presume that he's up to something.
