Awesome Miner - Unlock Antminer S9, T9+, S15, T15, S17, T17 (free for everyone)

Hi,

This feature is available for everyone - you don't have to run a paid version of Awesome Miner to unlock any number of Antminers. This should benefit the entire mining community.

I've received a number of questions about what Awesome Miner, as a trusted and known software solution, can do related to unlocking of Antminers (without having to use SD cards). The unlock feature has been available in Awesome Miner for a while, but everyone may not be aware of it as it's a bit hidden.

Unlock support

• S15, T15, S17, S17 Pro, T17
  
  • Enable SSH and remove signature check
  • Works with recent Bitmain firmware versions, except the latest December 2019 release
• S9, T9+
  
  • Remove signature check
  • When the signature check is removed, you can install any firmware, either custom firmware or older Bitmain firmware, where SSH is available
    
  • Works with all Bitmain firmware versions except the most recent from July 2019. If you run this specific firmware version, flashing with SD-card is an option.

How to unlock
If you already are running Awesome Miner to monitor all your Antminers, please make sure you run a recent version and then proceed to step #7.

1 ) Download, install and run Awesome Miner.

2 ) When running Awesome Miner for the first time, it will automatically open the Add Miner Wizard. It can also be accessed via the "New miner" button in the toolbar.
3 ) In the wizard, select "Network Scan"
4 ) Enter an IP address range and click "Scan"
5 ) Click "Select all" to add all miners and click "Next" followed by "Finish"
6 ) In case you have the Free Edition of Awesome Miner, you may get a question if you want to continue adding the miners. Select "Yes" to continue. The Free Edition only supports monitoring of two miners, but it's still possible to add any number of miners
7 ) Select one or many miners, right click and select "ASIC Tools" -> "Send Custom Web Request"
8 ) Fill in the Antminer web username and password (default: root / root) and enter "unlock" (without the quotes) in the Request field.
9 ) Apply and wait. The Antminers will be restarted once during the process.

What's next
Now your Antminers are unlocked and you will have greater flexibility to install any custom firmware and access them via SSH.

We have a number of SD-card images available for unlocking certain Bitmain firmware versions for Antminer S9, T9+, L3+. Please contact me for more information.

The firmware for Antminer S17/T17 is not fully finalized and integrated with Awesome Miner from a configuration point of view. Right now you will have to use the Antminer web interface to do the overclocking.

Please go to the Miner Configuration -> Chain Freq settings, where you can set the following for Antminer T17
Select Frequency: 900MHz
Select Voltage: 19.5V

In case of Antminer S17:
Select Frequency: 725MHz
Select Voltage: 19.4V

In the near future there will be "Mining Profiles" for Antminer S17/T17 where you easily can just select the hashrate you want for all your miners. This concept is currently only available for our S9/L3+ firmware.

Please note that when running the Awesome Miner firmware for Antminer S17/T17, you don't need any Awesome Miner license. As the firmware has a mining fee, we don't charge anything extra for using the miners with Awesome Miner.

And i have some questions below:
1, You can unlock the miners such as S17, T17 and enable the SSH funtcion without SD card?
2, When my miners are hosted in the farm, in the lan. May i direcelty access them in the internet just as in the same lan?

For the S17 with no auto-tune, what's the best way to approach?

So far, I've been starting with 19.4V/725M, then lowering the chip frequency on the reds by 2. Really laborious, and I'm only seeing about a 5% bump in speed. Is there a better way? Will the new firmware be released soon to handle autotuning?

Thanks for your questions.

1) Most S17 and T17 miners can be unlocked without an SD card. It's only the very latest Bitmain firmware from December/January that requires an SD-card for unlocking.

2) Awesome Miner needs to be able to establish a connection to the miners in order to manage and monitor them. Either the miners needs to be on the same network or you need to have some kind of VPN solution to connect to the miners.

In the future we are also planning to support an alternative way of communicating with miners on remote locations, to better support hosted environments.

I did see your PM related to how to make these settings, but it looks like you worked it out fine. There will soon be improvements to the S17/T17 firmware as well where you get auto tune and more. Later on there will also be predefined settings like 65TH/s or 70TH/s where you no longer have to modify the frequency and voltage manually to reach a certain hashrate.

i´m using your latest firmware on my T17 but i cant unlock

If you have the Awesome Miner Antminer firmware installed already, the miner isn't locked and there is no need to unlock it.

You can enable SSH in two ways:

1) Via Awesome Miner toolbar: Tools -> ASIC Tools -> Set Mining Profile. Go to the Additional Settings tab and check SSH. (It doesn't matter that the Antminer firmware box doesn't have T17 listed yet, that's only for the overclocking profiles)
2) Via the Antminer web interface: System -> Security

Thanks for your question. Antminer T9+ firmware from July 2019 isn't possible to unlock via software.

You are distributing a firmware (and charging for it)
Where is the source code to cgminer?

You see, it doesn't matter what you claim about what you are doing, cgminer has a specific license requirement of GPL
and since you are distributing it, you are also required to supply source code to the cgminer in it upon request
That would even be required if you were only distributing the original BM firmware (which you aren't)
Aside: yes the newer BM miners have gone back to saying 'cgminer', I guess they undid that name change but the name change is also not relevant

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately the Antminer S9k comes with newer firmware versions that cannot be unlocked like previous editions of Antminer S9. If you are lucky to have a little older firmware version on your S9k, the unlock might work fine.

Any update on this? I recently received a S9se. it came with June 2019 firmware.
