A question about wallets (BTC and USDT)

Hello

So I am currently using a Solar wallet where I hold NWC and XLM, but I would like to also have Bitcoin and Tether is at all possible to have it on Solar?

If not, which is the best wallet to hold Bitcoins and Tether? (i don't mean hardware wallets, I need a desktop wallet)

Not sure about Tether, but you can use Electrum to store bitcoins.

Edit: Just saw Exodus can store both BTC and USDT. Have a look.

I think solar is Stellar based wallet so you can't store bitcoin or USDT there.

Choices for you to store bitcoins and USDT on same wallet:

1.Exodus wallet: Available for desktop as well as android so you can access your coins from both devices.

2.Coinomi: which is for android and IOS but better compared to Exodus.

Which type of USDT are you planning to store? There are currently three types and they are Omni layer protocol, Ethereum based (erc-20), and Tron based (trc20). Anyway, your best wallet is still hardware type which can store them both such as Ledger Nano but since you prefer desktop, maybe you can choose Atomic wallet.

I really suggest against using multi-coin wallets if you're looking to secure your coins(unless you're using a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor, if you don't, come on, they're on sale!). I suggest leaving your XLM funds on your XLM wallet, and your bitcoin to your bitcoin wallet(preferrably, Electrum, or a hardware wallet). Due to security reasons.

I know it's quite hard to manage different wallets and maybe that's one of the reasons why some prefer to use multi coins wallet. It's really an ease. However, I agree with t@mjglqw had said since it's more risk on security and imagine like giving all your coins to hacker ( when your wallet got compromised ).

A hardware wallet is the best option
If you want to store all your coins you mentioned I would use coiniomi (mobile version, not desktop). It is not the best wallet, but you said you don't want a hardware wallet..

I would certainly buy ledger or trwzor as they can hold all your coins as well.

You can use Coinomi and Atomic Wallet as multi-wallets, you can use several coins, and in my opinion, the most convenient desktop wallets are Coinomi and Atomic Wallet.

If you don't want to use a hardware wallet, a multicurrency wallet would be your other option. So i am suggest another really good and open source option.
It's called Trust Wallet. It supports all the coins you want listed above but so far they have only apps that work on Android and iOS.

Exodus wallet isn't as safe as you think though. It's not open source, and if I remember correctly, the private keys are stored on your device in clear text; that's a very very big issue no doubt. Hardware wallets are still the way to go.

Here is step by step to add Bitcoin to your Solar Wallet

1. Go to Assets & Balances



2. Add assets to your account



3. Custom asset



4. Search with keywords Bitcoin or BTC (for BTC) you can use another cryptocurrency keywords as you need

5. Select issuer or service. I choose Interstellar



6. Read description of service, if you are trusting this service, just hit add asset button



7. Confirm your asset. You need to pay small amount to confirm



I'm not recommends you to use Solar Wallet to store your Bitcoin, USDT. It's better to use another service that's ready with major coin/token as recommendations from other members above. This is just a tutorials to add assets, DWYOR / DYOR

There's been about 40 upgrades to the wallet since this information was put out. 

Also, every wallet can be susceptible to being hacked if your computer security is lax. That's why I suggested pairing it with a Trezor.

Exodus also put out a great guide of steps to take to keep your assets safe. I think the tips should be used by everyone - regardless of which wallet you use.

It is mostly because of the price, at the moment i'm still new in the crypto world and i will not invest huge amounts of money into it. Once i learn and really start trading i'll buy hardware wallet for sure.

 The best bitcoin wallet which I have used is electrum. It is the most lightweight desktop wallet which supports multiple operating systems. Also, it is integrating with some premium hardware wallets such as trezor, Ledger nano s. But if you are a beginner then it is not suitable for you because it only supports BTC.

For USDT you can use an exodus wallet. It supports so many currencies that include BTC. The most important thing the fee you are going to pay is not for the wallet and it is for the network. You can consider it the best tether wallet for beginners.
