There are 2 ways to mine. One is with GPU mining and the other is with something called an ASIC.

If you want to use your computer, then you need to buy some type of mid-range GPU like an RX 570 at least and you can mine ETH with that. Profitability is very low at the moment keep in mind, like $0.25/day/gpu. If you got a modern type of PC then most likely your motherboard has at least 2 slots so you can at the very least have 2 GPUs in there. There are some motherboards you can buy that got up to 12 slots or so just dedicated for mining.

An ASIC is basically simpler to set up. You basically buy something called an Antminer S9 and just plug it in and you are all set. All you need to do is pick a pool and a payment address and just leave it running. They are VERY LOUD like a Vacuum cleaner keep in mind. But they are pretty compact and don't take up too much room. Besides the ASIC you will need sometype of PSU. Some sellers might include a PSU with the purchase however.

There are many guides and youtube vidoes these days on how to mine. Just search and it will show you step by step the process.

I'm not an expert in this field, but i did mine in the past, so i'll try to give you some pointers...

First, and i cannot stress this enough, i don't believe in free electricity. It might seem free to you, but down the line, somebody is paying the bill. It might be your parents, your landlord, your employer, your government, other customers of the power company (in case you're stealing). Are you sure you're obtaining this electricity legal? A couple cents worth of altcoin isn't worth losing your job, going to jail, making your parents pay a tenfold in electric charges.

That being said, if you insist on cpu/gpu mining with your EXISTING hardware, don't get your hopes up. You won't get rich. If you pick the exact right algo/coin at the exact right time, you might make a couple bucks a month.

Start by looking at the forum and pick a cpu/gpu minable coin. XMR should be doable, or NLG. Do some benchmarks for these CPU/GPU minable coins and pick the one that generates the most profit.
If you have a general office desktop, the odds are your GPU is no good for mining. GPU mining requires a rather powerfull GPU to begin with. IF you have (or are willing to buy) a decent GPU, there are many more GPU minable coins (but not the most popular ones like BTC or LTC, those ones are ONLY ASIC minable... well, in theory you can mine with about any hardware, but in reality you can't)

Well, there's also CPU mining (RandomX and others), and FPGA mining. TBH there are a lot of variables these days, even given the benefits of 'free' power.

Noise is a big one - if it's 'free power' in an abandoned factory, chuck in a load of dirt cheap rocket engine asics. If it's 'free power' in your uni dorm, then a CPU miner will be better/quieter/more useful for study too. Either way, check exactly what the circuit is before trying to load it up - 'free power' often means money hasn't been spent on the system, which in turn means the breakers will trip/wiring will burn.

No, you can join any pool that supports the coin you picked, it does not have to be near your place of residence.

As for which pool to join: i guess you'll have to pick a algorithm and coin first, then chose a pool that supports this coin... Not the other way around.

If you have 4GB RAM and an okay CPU then just purchase a second-hand GPU and you're good to go.
For AMD, RX580 8GB will be a good starting point and you can get it for around $100 and for Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB is a good starting point for the same price.
Nvidia GPUs can mine coins with a wide range of algorithms but it's not the same for AMD and also there is no fuss on modding bios and such to get the best hash rate possible.
So, Nvidia GPUs are a good starting point.

It depends on your goal. First of all - even if you want to make rig from your PC - it will be really small profit and at least 5-6 months after buting used GPU.
At start, you can buy 1 AMD RX 570-580, 500-600WT PSU.

Also make sure you understand that mining is a 24/7 operation which may shorten the life of your CPU/GPU by a great deal.
And if you have a laptop, you better don't start mining at all with it.

I suggested CPU/GPU because the OP stated he wanted to mine using "one PC", so i assumed he already had a pc and wanted to waste his time and (free) energy.

I do agree that if he wants to make a profit instead of mining with a preexisting PC, he's much better off with an ASIC

Imho people who come to see what mining means will usually try to play with the hardware at hand: their own PC. And usually most don't plan to invest into ASICs.

There are a number of coins which can be mined with PC especially the POS coins but if you have free electricity then I have a planning for you, you have to do partnership with a person who can buy the GPU and you will provide the electricity to his GPUs and the mined coins will be distributed between both of you equally.

The reason why is because most likely I am assuming he is a college student living in some dorm and can't have a loud ASIC in his room. It would piss off his roommate if he has one and most likely the people next door wouldn't be able to stand the noise either all night.

The days of the quiet asics like the Antminer S2 or Antminer S3 are long gone, and sure you can buy some muffler to supress the sound but it would just make it too bulky. Hence the reason why most people are suggesting a GPU to mine.

The question was about PC. In such a way i dont think, that Asic is a correct choice. Also, as i can understand, the OP need the cheapest PC just to try mining, not for profit right now.
