How to stake a address from blockchain and be able to sign messages from it

Hello,

I dont use any desktop wallet as i believe it can be compromised, in my absence. I have used a few wallets namely armory an electrum but i have switched to blockchain long time ago due to its ease of interface and quick way of making transactions happen. Now i believe i want to stake a address in the https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0 topic. So since i usually use blockchain wallet and the adderess changes everytime after a transaction, how can i control one address in it to sign and make it possible everytime when needed. I found the way to sign it in blockchain, but my question is being able to sign using same address only. Also i know that i could receive multiple transactions in 1 address if i need in blockchain, correct me if i am wrong here also, because i never tried.

Apparently, it's still only available for imported addresses though.

The address changes every time you receive funds as a privacy measurement, and yes, you can receive funds to the same address over and over without any issues. Regarding signing messages, then as stated in the link above. You cannot do that (because blockchain.info never implemented that feature) unless you are using an imported address.

You also seem to have the wrong idea about desktop wallets. These wallets are very safe as long as your computer is clean and not infected. I would highly suggest switching back to Electrum If you want to have full control over your funds.

protrader786, you can download Electrum, type down seed (12 words) and then sign a message from the first address you get in receive tab. If you want that address in your blockchain.com account just export private key for that address from Electrum and import to blockchain wallet.

You can delete Electrum and get to your address any time by seed recovery, or you can just use the option to control this address in blockchain.com account. Whatever you do, it is important that only you have access to your private keys, which means that you do not save them in unencrypted form, on your computer or e-mail.

Yes, this way striked my brain once, but for security purposes i am now planning to buy a hardware wallet soon, i was going through the list for a couple of hours now.

The reason why i refrain from importing a address to blockchain wallet or generating it outside is because i am paranoid. What if i lose my funds in that wallet and imagine blockchain itself scammed me, they would be like we didnt have any key and it was not generated here and we cant help you.

OP thinks that the desktop wallet (Bitcoin Core, Electrum or whatever else) is unsafe in case he uses it to sign message and probably lose funds.

A sign message is a kinda of ownership proof but it does not a mandatory requirement to have funds inside that wallet when, after or before, signing that message to prove that one has control on that wallet.

So why not sign a message from a 'blank' wallet?
Blank ~ zero-fund inside. Consequently, no one can compromise your funds and you still can sign a message, totally safe. 

I think one of good solution is using Electrum (for example, I like it because it is light and does not require too much storage on my computer) to create a wallet, then use it to sign a message. Then, backup that wallet's seeds, keep it safe (but backup should be made in dozens, not only one; just in case). After that, reinstall the Electrum wallet from computer. So no one can compromise that wallet from that computer. But the last thing is keeping backups of seeds safely.

With seeds, anyone who get access to seeds can retrieve that wallet.

There is another way to backup wallet, using the backup file of wallet (that has a strong password too). People who have your wallet backup file have to crack wallet's passphrase to control the private key and funds (if there are) inside. Click on File > Save copy > Type a name for your wallet backup file.

I usually backup my wallet in both two ways, just in case some of those backups broken.

Have you tried using hardware wallets? I feel the same about desktop wallets because though it's really safe and the computer is really free from viruses, can't say what can happen if you connect offline. I feel hardware wallets are the best, and there are quite a few - Ledger, CoolWallet, Cobo Vault.
