Ledger Nano X - Review of the package.

I just received a Ledger Nano X, and I will take this opportunity to share my first experiences. What I first noticed was the difference in size compared to the Nano S, new model is not only bigger but also heavier and thicker. It's not something that can be annoying if you carry it with you somewhere, but the difference is definitely visible.

The other thing I noticed when opening the package was that Ledger seemed to listen to some users' complaints (I have mentioned this several times in the forum) and that all instructions come in as many as 11 different languages which is great in terms of security for new users who do not understand English. They also include 3 recovery sheets, USB cable, a few stickers and keychain strap which is much better quality than the previous one + more detailed Getting Started + Use, Care and Regulator Statement.

There is definitely an improvement in the quality of device design, the way customers are approached in terms of package content, and in my case very fast delivery (only 4 days for EU) and free shipping with Black Friday 35% discount. I can only say that as a customer I am completely satisfied with the product and service.

I have a ledger nano s as well and I am completely satisfied with it, I see no reason to upgrade.


great product. They are selling both as a "back up" but that's not necessary as just the seed is a good back up.

I am going to confess that I am a little curious to really touch and use this new model, but I guess I will skip this version

It also has bluetooth support for connecting to Ledger Live on a mobile device (BT is not useable with desktop version of LL), so you don't have to fiddle around with an OTG cable etc.

Instead of 11 languages, the user can request the device with a choice of three languages, English in addition to two languages that he chooses.

I will mention again that this is a review of the contents of the package, and the size/weight/thickness of the Nano X compared with the Nano S. As for the cost-effectiveness and advantages of the new model over the old model, all is said before. I simply wanted to try a new device, and in case my old Nano S breaks down I will have the second device.

Which translation do you find problematic/inaccurate? This is a very simple instruction that can not be much different in translation even if you use Google Translate. I cannot comment on Japanese, Chinese, or Korean accuracy of the translation, but the translations of all the other languages seem fairly accurate. What I certainly think is positive is that the company changed its approach, two years ago the contents of the package were quite poor, with only three papers, only in English.

This part is fragile like an egg. One of my devices fell, surely for the first time, and the part is distorted and ready to go to the bin.

I knew that Nano X have bigger screen, but I didn't thought that whole device is bigger. And it's nice to see that Ledger improved package content. Translations is very important thing. Snd now I see that they give 3 recovery sheets. When I bought Nano S, I got just one sheet.

From these languages I only understand Russian, though I'm not native speaker. But for me translation looks normal. As Lucius said, these few sentences is very basic and probably even Google Translate don't fail to translate it.

Idea for business - make rugged versions of Hardware wallets. Waterproof also would be good

Grrr....OP, you're making me jealous.  I would love to get my grubby little paws on a Nano X, but I just can't justify the expense right now.  Every time I see a thread about it, my mouth starts to water.  I won't call it drooling, but it's close.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.  I love my Ledger Nano S to death and don't need to upgrade but I would in a heartbeat if I got the X.  Even though Ledger had the black Friday sale, I really wanted the To The Moon edition and that wasn't part of the sale.  I think I might have gone against my better judgement and bought it if it was at a discount.

I know how you feel, there was something similar in my case, and by the last moment I was thinking of buying it or not, but on the last day Ledger offered an additional 5% discount and with a total of 35% off it was an irresistible offer. As I say in my previous posts, I just want to have extra HW in case my Nano S breaks down.

I know that that I could buy 2 Nano S for the price of one X, but I consider this purchase an investment in the future. The Nano S is a good HW, but unfortunately, it has limited storage that will prevent Ledger to add some new features in the future. It is possible that Ledger will offer another promotional sale like last year, and that the discounts will be even greater.

Sorry, I completely forgot to answer you. Regarding the metal part (it is not plastic 100%) that covers the device, it is definitely noticeable that it is more massive and thicker on X then on S model. Also, the finish is not glossy/polished on X as it is on S, it may even be some new material. I hope we both think on the same part here.

If you think on seals on the box, there is no such thing - it is just Ledger box wrapped in a plastic transparent wrap. I buy new phone few months ago, one of the top models (Huawei), but I got it the same as Nano X, no extra protection so you can see has anyone opened the package before you.

What kind of features could that be? I never thought about this, and certainly this can be an interesting perspective. However, I can't think of anything other than more coins support, which doesn't interests me.

Maybe some better integration with some crazy smartcontract in ethereum in the future.. However for now my nano integrates perfectly with metamask, electrum, mycrypto, mew, TRON, etc etc...

Who can tell how technology will evolve in the future, we can only speculate on it. But without a doubt, the Nano X is something Ledger will build on all the new features, and I think for the S model it will not be possible due to limitations of storage. At this point, it doesn't seem too important, but investing in new technology always pays off.

Nano X is a good investment for people who want to have many coin apps at the same time, and for those who like idea of wireless connectivity. Some will also buy it because they like the design, or just because it's something new.

I pre-ordered the dual package last year during a promotional run when the price was attractive.  I didn't own a model S at the time, so the extra cost seemed worth it.

The fact that the Ledger is not prone to physical attacks (none that we know of, anyway) like the competitors, and the X's bluetooth capability made it seem like a practical mobile wallet to carry around while traveling.  The difference in size between the X and S isn't a big deal, in my opinion.  The X is still fairly compact, no bigger than a cigarette lighter or many other items people often keep in their pockets.  I was really intrigued by the idea of a wireless connection to my phone, which I must admit I've yet to utilize. 

Would a Nano S have sufficed for me?  The answer is overwhelmingly yes.  I don't need to use my phone for crypto, as I almost always have a computer with me, even when I travel.  I don't own many altcoins, in fact the only reason I own ETH is to provide another popular coin for my lending service.  The difference in price can seem negligible for some of us, and if you just want the latest and greatest you won't be disappointed.

I don't expect the Nano S to lose support from Ledger anytime soon, so for my needs it doesn't seem like it'll become obsolete in the foreseeable future.

I would say the Nano X is worth the extra cost if you own a lot of altcoins and interact with them regularly, or you use your phone as your primary device to access your assets.

I was really intrigued by the idea of a wireless connection to my phone, which I must admit I've yet to utilize. 

I guess I am a bit old-school but I still prefer connections via cable rather than wireless ones like via Bluetooth. The Ledger OTG Kit is still the way to go if you ask me. Bluetooth connections are not really my thing. I am not paranoid by nature but I don't really like it when it comes to my financials. It provides another window of opportunities.

The only advantage that the Ledger one has is that it is just a single "male to male" cable, whereas most other OTG adapters are micro USB (or USB-C) male to standard USB female... but then they have the added advantage of being able to accept flash drives, mice, keyboards etc.

All depends what you want to achieve I guess... but personally, I wouldn't bother with the Ledger kit.

My experience is good with Ledger X, and I am using it lately for store fund. Really nice design and especially I like bluetooth connection featured. Even it could be use through mobile phone without any cable connections. So your fund with you any where your are if device with you. No need to wait when you will sit on your computer.

It doesn't have to be the one that is sold by Ledger and yes it is overpriced, I agree. I was just trying to make a point that I prefer cable connections over wireless. Buying cheap and unknown cables made me think of the USBHarpoon > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5186863.0

This is the time of year when the biggest discounts can be expected, and of course, it should be used and saved as much money as possible. You made a small mistake because you overlooked Black Friday, but also the discounts that Ledger has for Christmas&New Year holidays. This year with the purchased Nano X, Ledger is giving away the Nano S for free. But the most important thing is that you have increased the security of your assets, it is certainly worth some extra money

How is your experience with the Nano X so far? I have already returned my device twice due to faulty battery. Both devices were discharging at an incredibly high rate. Since the replacement is supposed to arrive today, I am thinking about selling it even though everything else seemed to be working fine.

I'm sorry you're having problems, I have not noticed such problems so far, but I must admit that I have not used Nano X too much. I've checked for similar issues on Ledger Reddit, and I see there are those who complain about the same problem. I can only say that the battery is too weak (100 mAh), which is certainly a problem for those who want more autonomy with Bluetooth.

Did you get any official response from Ledger about what is causing such fast discharging of battery?

How many times you guys can use the Nano X before the battery needs to be recharged? Is it that bad?

I'm thinking of getting one because I might travel a lot in the next few months and don't want to carry my Nano S around.
