I think there is more thread about 'quote', but I like to write something from myself what I noticed from multiple users.

As a campaign manager often I have to check users post history when they apply for join on campaign. I noticed that some users 90% post including 'quote' of other post. But whatever they quote it's not necessary in my opinions. I am assuming they just quote post because they want to make their post more larger.

I know you are allowed to use quote of anyone or from any other site. Its not against forum rules or trust system. But it's quite annoying for some users like me. I have been using quote wherever need. I don't know if someone will agree with me or not but I will describe below when I am using quote post.
1. I don't use quote if I reply on main post unless if there is some important part that I want to highlight.
2. If I want to give reply on any specific post then I just quote the specific part. I don not quote full reply as well.
3. Quote as a reference, sometimes some questions came that answer should with appropriate evidence. In that case I use appropriate quote as reference.
4. Remind your something, sometime it would necessary remind you something that were important, it would your own quote or my quote.

That's how I am using quote on forum. Hope newbie will learn how to use quote. It's quite important to make your post more quality. Unnecessary quote will discourage reader to read your post. So if no one read your post means it's not worthy to read and will look like spam. Improve your posting behaviour and do something good.

Because I believe  "today's newbies will be Legendary once a day, newbies are future of forum"

The quote feature is best used to highlight/stress a specific idea you want to post about or reply to.

As a campaign manager often I have to check users post history when they apply for join on campaign.

There are other uses for bounty hunters in bounty reporting threads. I have seen Some campaign managers demand that from hunters.

I hope there are days when your coffee tastes like magic, your playlist makes you dance, strangers make you smile, and the nightsky touches your soul.

<...>
I recently created a post on my local board as a reminder of how not to abuse the use of quotes (see [Recordatorio] No abusemos de los Quotes (Citas)). That was triggered by a Newbie that made a dash appearance, wrote over twenty posts in a day, and quoted in most of those posts the complete text of someone else’s post.

This kind of practice is not really necessary at all (unless for archival purposes of some sort), and it does lead to a disruption of the flow of one’s reading. Delimiting the quote to specific concrete parts helps to narrow down the attention to the concerned elements, that are subsequently commented on.

Also, there are newbies and high ranked members use part of an article in italics and add the source link below which makes a post as constructive and also they can avoid getting banned for plagiarism but I always feel that this articles should be included into quote like

Code:
[quote author=url=.................]Article they were copying from source[/quote]

Because I believe  "today's newbies will be Legendary once a day, newbies are future of forum"
That's it. I did not know how to use quote in the past, honestly.

Outside serious board, Meta for example, people tend to post shitposts and nested/pyramid quotes are what we will instantly see if we visit those spam boards. I learned how to quote efficiently when I visited Meta board.

Regarding to quotes, I want to add one more thing: Images inside quotes.

You can skip images in quotes
Or you can adjust original image' size with width or height options.

[TIPS] to avoid pyramid quotes (for Newbies)

I understand that this is the beginner's section that's why you are only addressing newbies. I'm also hoping that even more senior members here could read your guide and learn from it. I don't know if it's a habit since they were newbies or just ignorance but some of them are still quoting an entire post. If newbies see senior members doing it, they will think it is okay and they will follow.

It's funny that I used to experiment with other people's post just to know how to reply to a specific part.
Same here. I also open different tabs and use the preview to compare how my post would look like.

I can only say that some members of the forum abuse quote option because there really is no need to quote the whole OP if someone has done it before. They make the forum hard to read, especially if the post contains images in inappropriate size. Here's just one example of how ugly it looks :

One page and 3 users quote OP - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5207203.40

Another important thing that everyone should use when reply to more than one user is multi-quote. When you click quote (you can edit post by deleting anything you find unnecessary) and to include other users/s post just scroll down and you will see that all posts have an option "Insert Quote". So one post can be used to reply to many users, with or without quotes.

2. If I want to give reply on any specific post then I just quote the specific part. I don not quote full reply as well.
I just quoted this part of your post to serve as an example, imagine if I had quoted your entire post, just to emphasize the point above, it would be difficult to understand and no user would enjoy reading it.

People who abuse quotes must take note that if the want to reply to an OP(thread), but do not have a particular or specific point in the OP that they wish to communicate on, then they should just go ahead and write it out without quoting, and if its a reply to OP that they want to quote, but do not have any specific part they want to underscore, then they can clear out the whole post and represent it with anything like: snip, < >, etc.

Personally, I consider a big a post a bad post.
A good and informative post is not redundant , but dry.

Maybe isn't this the case to replace those users for better ones?
There are many contributive users in this forum, and you are managing good paying campaigns.

Learning on how to use quote properly did something good for the forum. Yes, there are still forum users who still doesn't know/use quote feature properly. Some of my post are quoted by a forum user but the post only discussed or only about some of it and not the whole post.

In my opinion both unnecessary quoting and lack of quoting are equally bad. With unnecessary quoting everything is clear - it creates clutter, especially when someone starts quoting large posts and images, but lack of quoting is annoying too - it's not always clear to whom the user addresses their reply, to which part of the post they are replying. Also, many people use third-party notifiers and if there's no quote or username mention, there won't be any notification.

I think we should use it intentionally when using quotes. If we post without knowing anything small, the adults will replay our post. There are also times when I would argue among many to use quotes. There are disadvantages to the use of quotes. Sometimes it helps us a lot. And I think those who don't know about quotes are better off not using it.

What I hate most is seeing someone quoting the whole text from op. My first impression is that it is definitely a shitpost. I usually ignore those replies.

I used to quote replies I want to respond to and edit the content to "..." or something to reduce the size of my reply.
Then I realized that if I want to reply to someone and draw his attention, all I have to do is to add his nickname with an @ meaning that I am addressing my speech to him. It's more practical and saves you the time of editing the quote.

For my impression, the two most common types of "quoting bozos" are:

  • Newbies coming here just to ask a single question and disappear for some unknown time and come back months later when they have another question. They don't really know how to quote properly because often it's a big mess to sort the code properly. If people don't know anything about BBCode they will
       - don't quote anything or
       - quote everything or
       - try to quote parts and get a totally unreadable mess
All of these "mistakes" are not made intentionally, so I don't have a problem, but yes, of course it's not nice to read topics like that. Most of these users won't read guides or try to "learn" it because they just search an answer for their question and log out again after they have it.
  • Shitposters like we find them here. Someone who's spamming nonsense comments won't care for the formatting if they already don't care for the content, so unfortunately, we won't have a realistic chance to change that ^^
It's annoying but as long as they keep posting that in their spam megathreads it's at least a bit better than derailing real discussions.

Normally, people on a Bitcoin forum should learn very fast how to quote correctly since Bitcoin is also somehow technical, much more than in a forum about rabbits, straw hats or cakes (you can add more examples  Cheesy). Sometimes, quotes can be very tricky, especially when other BBCode is involved, like tables, colours and lists etc.
In my opinion bringing awareness to improve quoting style is a good attempt to make topics easier to read, especially the users interested in discussions are posting the mayority of the posts here and they will care to improve their posting quality. Same goes for inexperienced Newbies who want to contribute but don't know the forum very well.

You summed up everything which took me a while to figure out, I used to quote whole comments even though my comment was focusing on a small part of it.
