Bitcoin must be the primary coin for cryptocurrency investment. Alt-coins are doubtful always, so its better to stay away from them with few exceptions like ethereum. Majority of alt-coins are useless. OP has 5000$ to invest, he should jump only if he is coming for long term investment.
