Truth is, I have never come across a guide that actually educated people on how to best gift Bitcoin as a Christmas gift. So I set out to write my own guide, right before the gift-giving season is fully underway.

A paper wallet is a horrible way to gift bitcoin. The person who is receiving has to trust both your honesty and your technical capabilities 100%, that you haven't secretly kept a hold of their private key and that you have created the paper wallet in a secure fashion. Additionally, you guide says nothing about downloading the page and generating the paper wallet on an airgapped machine. Creating a paper wallet on a live website is the best way to have your coins stolen. If anyone was to gift me a paper wallet, I would be sweeping all those funds immediately. Better to gift them a hardware wallet and then send them some coins after they have initialized it themselves - doing so would also teach them a lot more about security, seed phrases, and so on, than simply handing them a paper wallet.

Those crypto socks you linked to are cool though. Might get myself a set, even if the Ripple ones would have to go directly in the bin.

usually when you give bitcoin as a gift to someone, you should think of it as giving them some "money to spend" not an "investment to hodl"! with that view, your concern becomes moot so far as the paper wallet that is being gifted could even have an "expiration date", meaning a date where the gifter keeps the private key so that he can reclaim the coins back if they weren't spent already.

after all the point of giving away bitcoin should be to help people become more familiar with bitcoin, and their first act could be creating a new wallet and sweeping the key they received as gift. and the second thing would hopefully be to spend the coins just as they spend fiat.

Those are 13 nice ideas on what or how to give Bitcoin stuff as a Christmas gift during this season of giving. Great options to different kinds of Bitcoin friends, depending on how well immersed they are into it. They certainly have different degrees of appreciation on those various stuff.

If I may add though, it is also a great idea to give a Bitcoin stuff that is a collectible or a limited edition. Or one that has a value in itself because it is rare or because it is made from gold or silver. It is best if there is also a certain amount of BTC loaded into it. That makes everything more precious.

I don't think paper wallets would be a great idea, why not just send them some bitcoins when they are sleeping at night, it would be more surprising that way, and more safer than having paper wallets, it will save your time also, you just have to put some effort on sneaking in their room at night, scan their QR code, and there you have it, mission success.

As much as I love Bitcoin and would like to receive BTC for Xmas I don't think that it would make a good gift for another person who doesn't know how to use it especially because it is virtual.

If I were them I would rather receive a tangible gift. But that's just my 2 cents.

I know that for everyone of us here, money is really valued as it is not that easy to earn, so no matter what I can received this christmas it is fine for me. Actually, I am planning to buy some cryptocurrency souvenirs for myself and for my family and friends, as this is a unique and cool thing to gift right now as this is not yet the common thing to give.

Once I planned to gift bitcoin to my friend on his wedding. Later due to some sort of technical issue I wasn't able to gift it. Myself planned to carve the Barcode of the wallet as a keychain. Now more websites have begun to do the gifting as a service. Probably by 2020 christmas gifting bitcoin or gifting with bitcoin will be made much easier.

Other factors have to be considered, such as the value of Bitcoin to be given and the technological literacy of the beneficiary. The amount should be substantial enough to convince the beneficiary to do extra effort in claiming his gift. Technological literacy is also a factor, as people with lower literacy in using technology such as other adults, might find it not worth the extra effort.

It may be a headache to your mom if she doesn't know how to trade bitcoin to the exchange. But if your mom is a tech person i think it would be easy for her to do that. But on the other hand, why do you have to give your mom a headache if you know she can't understand it. Why not give her the money in fiat straight to her via gift or via sending it to her bank account?

I think it all depends on the person who would receive it.
Paper wallet or  hardware wallet would be good if the receiver knows how to use it,
If the person doesn't fully trust the person then he/she could just send the crypto to his/her own wallet after they receive it.
Just don't expect too much from someone who doesn't know how it works or isn't interested in crypto theycould just easily forget about it or misplace it.

Many prizes can be given with the theme of Bitcoin, depending on the preferences of the person you want to give a gift to.
Giving a gift in the form of paper wallet containing a bitcoin gift, in my opinion is too ordinary.
There must be a new way to give prizes with the theme of Bitcoin.
Can create bitcoin-themed works of art or more modern ones giving Hardware Wallet as a bitcoin and altcoin wallet.
The most important thing is the gift can be something valuable and impressive for the special person you are giving a gift to.

I completely understand your point, but keep in mind that this would be a gift, and a gift that could be redeemed immediately and secured in a wallet that the gift-giver wouldn't have the keys to.  And since it's free to the recipient, there's no risk to him or her.  They don't have to keep the coins in the paper wallet, that's what I'm getting at.

I think it's a great idea if you know someone who might appreciate a gift of bitcoin.  Unfortunately, I've got nobody in my life who'd want to get bitcoin in their christmas stocking.

Ah, I didn't read your post before writing mine.  That's what I was getting at.  It's easy enough to verify that the paper wallet wasn't compromised and easy enough to secure the coins it contains right after receiving the gift.

Pretty much the tldr; If you're planning on giving out bitcoin as a gift, probably pick people that's decently tech savvy(someone that atleast knows how to follow instructions on the internet), that you think could possibly be interested in bitcoin. I don't think it would be a good idea to just randomly give them away to random friends and family that would probably just roll their eyes on your magic internet money.

I hope the one who will receive this paper wallet knew how to redeem it. Paper wallet doesn't come with a tutorial on how to do it but sure someone who likes BTC will sure like it.  

I tried giving someone some BTC after telling him to install a wallet in his phone. When he found out its just 0.04BTC he wasn't impressed. He thought I'd give him 1BTC so make sure the one who will get the BTC knew how to appreciate it.

Wow this is something I actually didn't know existed. Sorry if I sound like a noob here but I'm a real sucker when it comes to these types of Christmas themed goodies. I don't celebrate myself actually as my country isn't really much into it but I'd really like to see more of these. I think the paper wallet also doesn't need instructions, they should be for yourself, not for others, IMO. You teach someone BTC that should be enough as a gift;)

I have printed out a few nice looking paper wallets that I will fund just before the end of the year and give it as present. Hopefully the price from that point increases which is always a convenient way to get their attention.

That being said, I have been giving away paper wallets regardless of the time of the year. Giving some coins away for free helps onboarding people and hopefully they will do the same as seasoned Bitcoiners so that the word keeps spreading.
