There are too many threads where people comment that this post for the sake of marketing and so and so. I just trying to explore the way they get utilized by placing their links on some forum or social media platforms. And below are my findings:

  • Some click the link redirect to their site and there are a short % chance of conversion rate.
  • SEO

This SEO thing pricked me a little and read more on that. This is one such thing done to uplift the DA of a site and to place your site above others in the google search.
Let me elaborate this:
There is something DA for every site. DA stands for Domain Authority. DA in simple words is a search engine score rate and if it is higher then your site will appear on the top(this is a rough view). So, to uplift the DA of the domain the marketing team usually uses this one way of placing there domain links in the different forums so that their sites gets apperance in the google search.

Similar to Bitcointalk there are too many platforms where these marketing focks do place their links but, few have started stopped this feature for example forum.bitcoin.com this platform has stopped members from placing hyperlinks behind some random topic(which usually spammers use).

My question was if even Bitcointalk does not allow placing hyperlinks then this might set an hurdle to the spammers. I do know atleast till some grade up this can be set. This is an open an subjective thought. What do you think guys?

Sorry if I am mistaken somewhere.

Disclaimer: I am not here to criticize any forum rule.

I’m not sure what you are proposing here, or debating on a hypothetical level. What I made from your post is that you consider that links are placed often with the objective to advertise, and that that leads to spamming, be it because there is a campaign behind on the forum, or any other sort of additional incentive.

What is the proposal to hypothesis on? Disallow links? (which have other reasons to be on the forum too) add a rel="nofollow" to links to prevent them being picked up by search engines? Disallow campaigns ? (talked about quite a lot before).

Note: The OPs title talks about scam, but the post about spam. Which is it ?

I guess disallowing links will not prevent spam/scam. It will be same as it is now. Scammers will find another way to do that. By the way, preventing scam must considered as your personal thing to analyze. As always everyone say, scams aren't moderated because it can't be moderated.
If you are referribg to spam, I guess there's rule for it & people can get their post deleted if they do. Only sharing a link which add no comments. feedback or no input; consider as spam and I guess moderator delete such post.

If I'm correct. forum.bitcoin.com is owned by Bitcoin Cash & they are misleading the newbie- introducing bitcoin cash as bitcoin. I'm not surprised that their forum can be manipulated, allow centralized & less freedom of opinion.

Are you asking why bitcoin talk has set such a hurdle? Isn't the reason already stated on your post? To prevent scammers? Why are you questioning the idea of bitcointalk promoting the idea of anti spammer movements? That is as far as what I actually understood based on your question alone though. Besides, disallowing links doesn't really impact the marketing strategies of most companies, they'd actually find a much better way to advertise either way anyway.

I totally agree that disallowing links will prevent spam or scam. We already know that scammers already did something different without using hyperlink to scam other people that has crypto they have been keeping safe. There are group of people here who reported spam posts so some posts will be deleted.

A hurdle has you put it for a spammer, but an annoyance for the general user. Disabling links would mean that users who wish to post links would certainly do what they do in other forums which disallow links. "bitcointalk[dot]org" or whatever they are doing these days. However, the other users that are using links appropriately get punished.

An alternative suggestion would be to limit links based on rank. However, I think we should be trying to encourage new users rather than limiting them. I don't think its a huge issue because most spam links get reported within a few hours, and malicious links usually get reported quicker.

If you see a spam link or malicious link report it to the moderators with the "report to moderator" function below the post. It will be dealt with accordingly.

Google functions and that of this forum and not aligned with the other. So the domain authority that works on Google might not work on the forum.
The forum has auction board available where one can advertise their products

It is a pain in the ass if there is a max cap for links in posts. As of I know, there is no max cap of posts (per day or per week) for all ranks. If there is no max post cap, there should be no max inside-post links cap.

It is right that users don't have need to post links in every posts they make but it is tough to set a max inside-post links cap for each rank. It is a strict and incorrect restriction as same as restrictions to make posts (beyond max post cap per day, example) that disallow users to make posts when they have good information to help the others.

The difference between this forum and the other forums is that members here are very active here and if they see anything malicious or spam, it get reported and deleted very quickly. It is not easy for the scammer to scam because you will have a lot of posts explaining the risk involved but if still people do not listen and use than scam link, its their own fault.

How many will we report? The scammer/spammer can create one more account and start again you report he creates one more that does not make a permament solution right?
