There are projects that failed to meet their goals but not all of them are scam. I only personally consider a project to be a scam if at the first glance, you can see that their goals are very unrealistic. Those sort of projects are created to fail. They are nothing but a way for the dev team accumulate and stole money from investors.

Scam project will certainly die quickly if in current market conditions. we can see several new projects that register tokens on the exchange but within a few days the price has dropped by 80%. from some of these history investors or traders must have a genius analysis in trading do not be sure of the sweet words of developers if there is no evidence on the development of the project.

For me it's simple. There are features a project just cannot have and each time you see it it's a strike. Some of them are:
Fake teams or team pictures
Big premine
Scamming people before the launch (like not paying for bounties or changing rules)
Mandatory KYC even for little things like bounties or airdrops
Devs lying about something being done while it is not

There's more but when you're in the space long enough you know what projects you should stay away from.

Projects that look doubtful because the development team is being disguised doesn't mean they don't have potential, like Minter, at first I was hesitant but I decided to keep on joining and in fact giving a lot of profit. On the other hand, projects that look promising with a team of developers who appear to shine, cannot develop as expected, the price does not match expectations when listing. I cannot give you a specific coin but I can say a thing or two about your other question. A scam project is a project that has a fake team, fake or copied whitepaper, fake or copied vision/objective, fake roadmap, or fake or copied design generally. A scam project could also be used to refer to those projects that raised money and leave after that. It could also refer to projects that do not honor words of agreement. A good project is of course the opposite of all those.

Adding to that is they are completely copying concepts and gives some updates to existing project attracting investors that they are much better usages from another coin who already gained support from the public. Scam developers are not going to invest time working with their projects but focus with how they can convinced people to invest money and runaway after. There's no easy task finding this team but if you are concern with your money you will extend your research to avoid or lessen your chance being victimized.

One of the reasons for this is that documents such as the design, objectives, economics, etc of a certain crypto project is open to the public. "Luck" is the most appropriate keyword to reveal the many new projects that have arisen and cannot be analyzed with certainty. because what we predict is going well and maybe many investors have joined, but the results are not a few that are very disappointing, lost without any trace left behind alias lost from circulation. on the other hand that is considered not good can actually produce the best and run smoothly. so this is a crypto that is not possible.

So, I doubt that we can have a "favorite" scam coin, there are thousands of them and I think they all suck equally since they all scammed people. However the favorites are quite marginally different in peoples eyes depending on what you consider "altcoin".

For example, if we are allowed to pick ethereum then I am picking ethereum, it is second biggest coin and it has an insane value and utility to use so I feel like it will never die so I support it, however some people don't consider ethereum as altcoin anymore since it became so mainstream, thats why my new favorite is EOS which is going on ethereums steps following it.

I was also a victim of those scam project in my own case the token was released however the coin was never listed in any exchange since April 2018 after the ICO ended the admin or team kept on postponing listing everyday every efforts to convince the team to speed up listing of the token proved abortive the reasons for delay is beyond the reach of investors these are some the risk involved in investing in ICO.

My opinion with fake or scam project is not listed on exchange market because they have scam many investor, but for coin have lower price after listing is trusted and good site project because they are responsibility for listing their coin on exchange market although have lower price than ICO value but they keep with their promise for listing coin on exchange market.

But there are some projects that i know about when listing on exchangers they are scam and gone. Like social media they are not active or deleted. If the list in the exchanger investor also wants to get profit from their investment, therefore they keep asking about its development.

You should not depend on only one resource or few groups and people of telegrams. Go for the news and search about the project by your own. Any project that gets listed by famous exchanges can be given a try but others should be ignored. Binance is a huge name in the market; it is among the top three exchanges with users in millions. If the projects is well prepared and don't have any intention for scamming they must be capable to answer any question realted to projects. So i think this thing is a core thing of choosing which project to involve

Still remember with scam project investing during ICOs is TOKENOMY or TEN, I bought on ICOs time with higher price about $0.2 and now price have drop lower under $0.02. I can't trust why price very cheap with success reached hard cap with TEN ICO and now never serious for listing coin with bigger market and burning coin supply to make TEN have higher price above ICOs.
