 A karma whore is a Reddit user,who deliberately uses Reddit to boost his karma score by applying different tricks(re-posting old content for the sake of gaining more karma,etc)
Some members of Bitcointalk have a similar approach towards Merit.
Can we create a list of all "Merit whores" on Bitcointalk?

I have limited experience in Reddit, but I don't know of real use for that Karma.
On the other hand on Bitcointalk the merit is necessary for ranking up, and higher ranks translate into admission and higher pay at bounties.

So imho while Merit is useful, Karma is not.

Edit: I was told that karma has an use, it's the entrance for certain sub-reddits. But this post reflects also only one of (many) uses of Merit (and ranking). See my explanations here.
So probably a more fair conclusion could be "Merit is more useful than Karma"?

To me i think it isn't necessary. It will only bring more grudges/drama which isn't good for the community. Usually when someone re posts content. They are  informed that there is another existing similar thread which i personally think is enough

Using old content, and passing it off as your own will get you banned, and if you're supplying a source very rarely do they get merited. Usually, only the unique responses get merited or at least get a high amount of merit. The difference between Reddit, and the forum is Reddit encourages lower quality content while the forum actually encourages in depth discussion. I've never been able to get on with Reddit.

Don't know about Reddit rules that much but I think they should have some rules.
But over here on Bitcoin talk if you reposting old content it would be regarded as plagiarism unless you put reference or quote.

So rather than making a thread for merit whores or so you can report to the moderators if you think they reposted an old content

Can you cite an example of who they really are that same goes apply for the forum's merit? AFAIK if you posted a same content and it isn't a translated version that be presented on local then that's a forum rule violation and you must notify the mods about it. Lastly, I am presuming that mods here are far more active compare to Reddit.

Indeed maybe there are some flaws or whatever, but merit discourage a lot of members to create new account and spam all over the place with useless posts.

There is merit in the merit system.

Also those that completely don't care about ranking up or sigh campaign etc those members can still talk free, ask questions and have non problems from anything.... only those with some wrong intentions have a few more problems cause of the system...

Crosspost happens often but so does reposting the same old content.

Funnily even when Redditors realized the content was plagiarized, the OP already had like thousands of upvotes.

Nevertheless, I find the "whores list" unnecessary since everyone out there is for Merits. As long as no direct copy pasta.

The good thing about “re-posting” old content or not even the content you only made will result you into having a permaban here cause it counts as plagiarism. Unlike Reddit where you can re-post anything you want and still benefit and receive karma here in BCT it would just be a matter of time before someone will catch your plagiarism and end your membership here. Yeah plagiarizers might count as merit whores here but I can consider them as a dumb whore for thinking they can get away with it.

There are individuals, that post "you are re-posting old content " (without any proof) on unique content, that was posted for the first time. How do you call that kind of person ?

This is just the number in you profile. Doesn't mean much. This is like number of likes on Facebook or Instagram. If you have a lot of karma, you can have a unique badge.

Right, and that's why members (especially lower-ranked ones) find them so important, and it why there used to be so many threads in Meta a while back dealing with merit issues.  I'm glad that trend finally burned itself out, by the way.  It was getting really annoying in Meta for a while.

Probably, and I don't think a list will get made anyway.  There aren't any "merit whores" that I can think of, and I never thought of anyone who wanted to earn merits really badly in those terms.  In fact, the reason I try to be a good merit source is to help out members who need merits to rank up.  Merits aren't exactly like Reddit's karma points in that they aren't just used for ego-boosting purposes (which I think is what the karma thing is all about).  Anyway, no merit whore nominations from me.

Sort of. If you get a lots of post karma on specific post you will get best link award. Same goes with “best comment award”

@NeuroticFish Depends on how you define the word "Useful". Having a higher amount of Karma allows you to post on certain subreddits, they are basically "sub-boards". On more popular subreddits like "r/videos" newbies can't post/share a link. Since these subreddits receive millions of impressions every day. Having a top post on one of these Subreddits can be quite beneficial if we are talking from a monetary perspective. There are special subreddits that you can only join when you receive X amount Karma. I remember a board for only "Merit-earners" was proposed here as well but I think it never became a reality.

You get comment karma every time you make a comment. Karma is used as a relative measure of activity which is why subreddits have metrics of minimum karma to participate. Bitcointalk already has an activity metric. I don't see a point to merit at all other than bragging rights.

On the other hand, you could be downvoted so imagine posting some controversial comment and seeing it accrue like -100 or even worse.
