For the record, a 100 Bitcoin Casascius coin was redeemed recently. It was created on February 2013 and now it's worth more than $700K. Very interesting that he had kept it for so long, would have been worth more if he peeled it off last 2017 though.  Grin

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Doesn't make sense to peel it off at this time, he could make a lot of money if he just continue to hold on it. After all he has been holding it for the last six years, so it baffles me to say the least. So I only see this possibilities.

(1) he really needed the money
(2) maybe he forgot about the coin for the longest time and most likely he still in the profit regardless of the current price so he just redeemed it right away
(3) it was stolen from him
