https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-50924494YouTube has reinstated hundreds of crypto-currency related channels after admitting it had removed them "in error".
A wave of YouTubers received notifications that their videos were in breach of the platform's terms of service earlier this week.
The move appeared to target smaller channels and publishers that focused on Bitcoin and crypto-currency content.
The Google-owned video sharing platform has since apologised for the mistake.
YouTube said in a statement that it had "made the wrong call" and confirmed that any content mistakenly removed would be restored.
"With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call," it said.
"When it's brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it."
It said there had been no changes to its polices, and insisted there would be "no penalty" to any channels that were affected by the incident. Despite the apologies, I still think bitcoin video enthusiasts should migrate to decentralised video hosting sites like D tube: https://d.tube/

My guess is that they unleashed some algorithm that was meant to take down the crypto investment advice videos, but for some reason it has nuked the whole channels - maybe there's some sort of autoban which removes all videos from a channel if it already removed a lot of videos from it.
Also, you say "Bitcoin video purge" in the title, but the article says "cryptocurrency videos", and it's a really big difference, cause as far as I'm aware, educational Bitcoin videos weren't removed.

Content creators should realise this can happen again and YouTube might not apologize the next time. There are other decentralised platforms that can be used by them to make money without such stupidity.

I do agree despite the popularity of Youtube. About the error though. I don't think that is really the case here. There might be some agenda behind this and they are already trying it out. It is easy to reason out since people will still use their service and it will just be forgotten.

I salute the decent response time from YouTube although it could have been faster, but as they said taking into account the enormous amount of content uploaded daily on the platform they would need quite a large team to manage all the reclamations in 24-72 hours time. See the full part of the glass - Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies got free publicity on BBC in a problem related with YouTube/Google which shall attract a decent amount of eye balls

Great observation as lately it seems most of these youtubers don't give a shit about Bitcoin and instead promote shitcoins and centralization and apparently getting paid hefty for it. I haven't seen any video from Andreas Antonopoulos getting blocked. In a decentralized youtube these shills wouldn't get much attention, yet they are crying now like little babies after breaching the rules of google.

Where could I see the official statement of YouTube about the mistake they made about the removal of various crypto related videos? I only saw about the copyright thing. Nevertheless, I still prefer YouTube because it's a huge platform and much easier to promote. Almost everyone is watching on YouTube unlike the other decentralized platforms. Especially for those who wants to learn about crypto, they could just search it on YouTube because compared to other, they might not know about other existing platform where they can also watch crypto videos.

I haven't try d.tube yet, but i want to. Is nice to have other options now youtube nowadays because that social network has become the monopoly of videos, and their rules become more absurd each time.
I will open a d.tube account right now, thanks for the recommendation.

Despite the apologies, I still think bitcoin video enthusiasts should migrate to decentralised video hosting sites like D tube: https://d.tube/I would wholeheartedly agree with you, but I don't think video makers are going to be doing that--Youtube just has way too much market dominance over other video sites. It's like telling people they'd be better off selling items on a site other than eBay, which I've heard many times over the last few years, but very few sellers go to other sites. At least they admitted it was an error (which it probably wasn't; they're back-pedaling) and fixed it. That's at least something, though this shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Despite the apologies, I still think bitcoin video enthusiasts should migrate to decentralised video hosting sites like D tube: https://d.tube/ Well, I think it's a good thing that they admitted their mistake and even promised to restore what's been wrongly removed. I am wondering whether it is the end of their hunt on crypto-related videos or whether they intend to perfect the algorithm and try to set more defined restrictions (like, for instance, blocking ICO videos but allowing videos about existing altcoins or only allowing educational videos about cryptos and blockchain, not reviews and price analysis stuff)... You're right that a decentralized platform would be better, but it seems that what The Pharmacist says makes sense and Youtube's dominance is just too big. They'd have to do more than "mistakenly" restrict some channels and delete videos to make people who, by the way, make a lot of money there, leave.

I just checked sunnydecree channel, and saw that his content was visible again, even though this is a youtube error with the wrong algorithm, but enough to provide a shock therapy effect, I'm sure many popular crypto channels will be more deterrent and alert to making crypto investment content after this. content creators will not switch easily because they are also interested in high global platform traffic and also monetize options on youtube.

The purpose everyone is using YouTube is because of the global reach it has and if D Tube is popular then everyone will be using a decentralized platform rather than platform with many restrictions, the reason for taking the content down can be many, flagging by competitors or by some person who are salty with their verdict about their shit coins and YouTube just mentioned it was a mistake and they did not tell the specific reason for the removal and now they have reinstated the videos they removed.

This will not be the first time that will happen, they've messed if up the first time and they will soon prove they are going to make it possible to purge the right content that violates their rules. This thread however promotes dtube, is this decentralized? There are few more projects decentralize as they said they are such as https://lbry.tv The issues with these decentralize video sharing site is that you may not have a grand audience that you need unlike the number youtube users.

Just don't trust google. They are the server in the middle. They can change their mind at any time and your stuff on google is gone. Even if you do everything alright, you can get blocked/deleted, and as they have everything automated you won't get to anyone to fix it. Forget about customer support, you are not the customer but the product.

But if we want bitcoin to knowi n all the sides we need to be in both centralised and decentralised places right. There are many investors still doesn't know what is the exact possibilities they can with Bitcoin and blockchain technology. YouTube best horn of the tool to show the potential of Bitcoin so let people use both the options.

Good one from Youtube for realizing some mistakes and not failing to apologize. The earlier crypto content creator starts looking for a decentralized platform the better. It's disheartening to watch one's years of labour just go down in a flip second, can't tell if all will be restored, the programmer went beyond boundaries.

I guessed the same. Youtube keeps on implementing new algorithm to make the platform free of videos that violates the term of Youtube. And it uses bots to check for and remove. Even the largest of You-tubers have complained about the issue and they generally respond with reinstating the video.

This guy is just taking advantage of this news to introduce a new website that he thinks is better than youtube, But the problem, is it really better? Youtube has a long way to go and they have huge traffic, which can lead to a few small flaws. Is a new website capable and powerful enough to maintain without any similar errors? Anyway, YouTube is the best place
