Hi all-

SecretBoxes.com has recently opened to the public, and we'd really appreciate some feedback from the Bitcoin community.  Bitcoin is the currently the only currency in SecretBoxes, because with it we are able to provide the highest level of anonymity.

The site is built around the concept of secret boxes.  Kind of like an airport locker.  Create them as needed for quick disposable uses like private video conferencing, or instead keep a couple around for long term safe keeping.  Use different ones for different people, groups, reasons, etc.  Plausible deniability.

You can chat, shop, message, search the web, send money, share files, and more.  All securely and completely anonymously.

We started the site to focus on providing true ANONYMITY as well as security.  People often don't realize how different those two concepts are.  In particular, we're trying to minimize metadata leakage.  For some reason most of the existing sites didn't understand the metadata problem.  They often secure or encrypt your communications, which does exactly nothing to combat metadata harvesting, something that has become (in our opinion) a real threat to our freedoms.

We're a tiny group, the site is still pretty much in beta stage, but it is growing pretty darn quickly.  So, we plead for your patience and understanding.  :^)  We're trying to prioritize and add the features first that people want most.  And we can throw a couple of dollars worth of bitcoins to anyone reporting a bug for the first time (please use a SecretBox so we can reply or give us some other way to contact you- this is a common mistake!).

Most people right now seem to use the site for secure chat, secured messaging, and the anonymous email aliases that tie into each SecretBox's mail.  And, btw, it takes most people a little time to get used to the "box" concept.  Or the fact that they probably want more than one, and how to create them for chats, etc.  We're working on how to better explain that.

The Bitcoin support is extremely simple at this point.  Like everything else, it's growing as fast as we're able.  :^)

But we'd really like to hear from you guys:  What features or abilities should we add next?  What just doesn't work for you?  What do you really like about it?

Thanks! We appreciate any feedback!

I'm going to have to really wrap my head around the concept of secretboxes... but it definitely looks exciting, and has a massive amount of potential.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yep, the boxes concept IS different.  For example, creating a SecretBox and inviting people to go THERE for a conference, and then just throwing it away.  Most people are used to having a permanent account, like on Facebook, and talking to other permanent accounts.

Of course, we are trying to destroy any metadata trail, and allow for total anonymity.  So we set them up more like a Swiss bank account, or an airport locker.

I have a feeling though we'll end up adding more features that let you treat the boxes more like the accounts we're all so used to, and let people use them either way.  It's just so ingrained.  Of course, it's an ingrained habit that makes us easy to track too...

Actually, that really helped (i.e. viewing each secretbox as disposable). Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.  Your input really helps.

It's funny, but when you're building a site that's all about staying anonymous, nobody ever likes to talk about what they are doing there!  Go figure.   Grin

Which is awesome of course.  It's just that it really helps us to hear what people want, what they like or don't like, new features they would like, etc.

So thanks!
