I remember there was an option to sign a message on the ledger when I first used it.
Today I browsed every setting of the application and still unable to find that option.
Searched some article but they too didn't help much as the option is not there in the new version I guess.
Is there any way to sign a message without compromising my keys to a third party tool.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Never see that feature yet on ledger live (though it should have asap) instead, I use electrum (desktop) or mycelium to signed message using ledger nano s.

Found this tool developed by them, but only for legacy address or just change the derivation path for segwit if works

I only use Ledger Live to update firmware, so i've no idea whether it's possible to sign message on Ledger Live.

You could try use another wallet software such as Bitcoin Core and Electrum which have sign message feature. And obviously you don't need to share your private key/mnemonic.
Can't afford to download the full blockchain, I'll go for the electrum.

I got a similar link of github with the same interface but didn't try that due to security reasons.

It is not possible from the Ledger Live software unfortunately. Maybe it still works on the old Chrome app but I have never tested it.
I have seen people recommend the webtool that bL4nkcode linked in his message so give that one a try.

Alternatively, download Electrum, verify the signatures and connect your Ledger to Electrum. Don't worry about your private keys, they will stay safe on your hardware wallet.

Webtool worked well and signed the message using the address below but I want to sign the message using segwit or native address.
What will be the path for segwit and native segwit?

Path - 49'/1'/0'/0/0

The address below is a legacy address, is it not?

Like I said previously, download Electrum, pair it up with your Ledger and you will have an option to sign messages.
Follow this tutorial if you are not sure how to do it. It is easy.

I tried using electrum but getting the below error.

"Failed to create a client for this device. Make sure it is in the correct state."

So, I unplugged the device and plugged it again and still getting the same error.

Path - 49'/1'/0'/0/0
Address - 1KSjWQQqVi9z7g1kgfSbguryvp8QZeaWyS
That '49' in the path is for P2WPKH-nested-in-P2SH "3-Segwit" account and the next '1' indicates that it's for testnet, not bitcoin.
But the webtool somehow set this path by default, if you select other coins then reselect "Bitcoin", it'll change into 49'/0'/0'/0/0.
The tool looks buggy to me.

BTW, for native Segwit, it should be: m/84'/0'/0'/0/0

If you need to sign using a Segwit address, follow their suggestions: use Electrum.

Thanks for the URL it worked but now my Norton is giving a continuous warning about a potential coinminer alert.
Do I need to worry or should I ignore the warning by the antivirus?

Hmm, the one that was detected was your selected server, AFAIK there are couple of similar reports in Electrum board;
that shouldn't be a problem specially that you're using a hardware wallet.
However, I suggest you to verify your Electrum's signature for a peace of mind:

Electrum is often wrongly flagged by anti virus software as malware. They even state that on their download page.
What is the exact site you downloaded Electrum from? Don't guess but check your browser history so you are 100% sure of the site!

http://electrum.org/
Standalone Version 3.3.8

Message from anti-virus changed to "An intrusion attempt by btc.cihar.com was blocked." and it is so frequent that I'm uninstalling the electrum from my system.
Standalone version didn't require uninstallation?

Installed it through Windows installer and everything working smoothly without any warning from antivirus. The standalone version has something different in it that is causing the problem.

Here is virus total link:

Message from anti-virus changed to "An intrusion attempt by btc.cihar.com was blocked."
Again, as with your initial error from "electrum.hodlister.co", "btc.cihar.com" is the name of one of the servers Electrum is trying to connect to. If you click on Tools -> Network -> Servers, you will find both "electrum.hodlister.co" and "btc.cihar.com" listed in there. You can try selecting different servers, but you may well get the same error with any server.

Provided you have downloaded Electrum only from electrum.org, and have followed the instructions nc50lc has posted above regarding how to verify your download, then there is nothing to worry about. They are false positives.

It's blocking network traffic... it isn't the app itself:

Essentially, the data being received from the Electrum server (ie. crypto related data, blockheaders, transactions etc) is being flagged because it "looks like the same type of information that a 'coinminer' malware also transmits"... It isn't flagging Electrum as malware.

Norton is basically trash... it's more "malware" than Electrum! Roll Eyes Tongue

Your statement looks logical and justifies what is happening here. Whenever the application is trying to download the latest block data from the server Norton is generating an alert. I'll ignore the warning from here on. thanks

Healthy online habits is the most important things. If you have that, you will be satisfied with the most basic protection. Avira is free and pretty light-weight. I've used Avast in the past but ended up uninstalling it after an update blocked me from accessing the Internet. I think the Windows Defender is getting better and better as well.

Can't rely on free anti-viruses I'll end up installing bloatware. Although I'm using hardware wallet still I'll stick to some paid anti-virus.
