Hello All!

I am as new as you can imagine, so I am sure I did something wrong or have been compromised.

I downloaded the Electrum standalone software and setup an account.

I transferred all of my coinbase bitcoins to my new wallet (only about $150) by sending to my Electrum receiving address.

Today I opened up my Electrum and on the lower left it says Balance: 0. mBTC (The funds are no longer in my coinbase).

So, I read some threads here and decided to download and install the electrum software instead.

I did that and re-established my account using my recorded seed.  I didn't get any errors or anything, yet my Balance still says 0. mBTC.

Also, in my Electrum History, there are no entries.

Have I been swindled?  Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you in advance.

Can you check the address to which you sent the coins on any block explorer (example)? Once you confirm that the coins are there, can you check if you see a green dot in the bottom-right corner of Electrum?

Using your example, I pasted in my "to" address, and there's nothing there.

TOTAL TX COUNT   0
TOTAL UNSPENT   No outputs
0 Transactions

Also, yes my Electrum does have a green dot.

Check your transaction history on Coinbase. Is the address there exactly the same as the one in Electrum? What version of Electrum do you have and where did you download it from?

When I open up the transaction in coinbase, the "To" address looks nothing like the one I sent it to.

But, if I click on it (it's a link), it opens up blockchain.com and then displays the exact same address as my Electrum address.

FYI - I copy/pasted when I was transferring the bitcoins to be sure.

I am using Electrum version 3.3.8 downloaded from https://electrum.org/#download.

Do you mind sharing the address here? I can cut it out later. It sounds like you bought BCH instead of BTC.

Don't forget to check the pasted address in the future. There's malware which replaces Bitcoin addresses. That's not the case here; just a reminder.

To be sure, do you want my Electrum "To" address?

I don't know the harm in sharing it.  Someone accidentally sending me money?

What's different about the addresses?  What do the addresses in your electrum wallet look like, do they start with a bc1, a 3 or a 1?

The link provided by Coinbase will send you to a block explorer, does it show the transaction has confirmations?

The only harm is disclosing how much coin you have.

Yes and the weird looking one too. Sounds like BCH address format.

I don't know the harm in sharing it.  Someone accidentally sending me money?

Privacy concerns. It bothers some people.

It's just as I thought. You have bought Bitcoin Cash instead of Bitcoin and sent it to your Bitcoin wallet. You can access those coins using Electron Cash. You can send your coins back to Coinbase and exchange them to BTC.

You can verify that by using Blockchain Explorer. You should be able to choose BTC or BCH blockchain using that link.

He probably sent the BCH to his bitcoin address, but once sent Coinbase translates the address to the BCH standard.  That address also looks like it received a little BSV on December 12.

@BitCryptex - I am just now getting back to this.  Hopefully time wasn't an issue.

You said "You can access those coins using Electron Cash".

I downloaded the app, but before I go through the process of installing, do I need to know anything ahead of time?

How will this app know it's me as opposed to someone else?

I assume I have to tell it something during setup?

Again, brand new to this...

I have just noticed that your Bitcoin address starts with 3. It can belong to either SegWit or multisig wallet. Electrum generates native SegWit addresses (bc1...) by default so you might have a multisig wallet. If that's the case then you should be able to recover your coins by simply recreating the wallet with all the necessary mnemonic phrases. However, if it is a SegWit wallet then I am quite sure you won't be able to recover the coins without the help of miners.

How did you create your wallet in Electrum? Did you generate your seed elsewhere?

restore your wallet using your electrum seed in electron cash. that's how it'll know what private keys and corresponding addresses to generate.
