Howbeit, software wallets can serve against natural disasters. Storing your private keys on Google cloud or on Google keep which can be accessed once you log onto your email from anywhere is the best measure to protecting your cryptocurrency against natural disaster.

Keeping the private keys on cloud storage like google is not really safe because its not that much harder to be hacked and simple mistakes for phishing attack on your device could be resulted in total loss of all your savings.Private keys have to be stored offline.

Well you do not need any hardware wallet to keep your digital assets save, just use any online wallet with the private key and you can access that anytime, anywhere as long as you are alive so no need to purchase any expensive physical wallets.

How can you say that? Maybe you have no idea what difference between a hardware wallet and wallet which has private keys! There is no wallet better than a hardware wallet. In a hardware wallet, you are totally safe. But in a random online wallet, you can get hack anytime!

I did not hear about the crypto steel thing before seeing this thread. I don't know how it works, but if it's price more than 200 USD, then a big no from me. If you have a hardware wallet then you are okay to ignore it. There are many ways to protect your assets during a natural disaster. Already you got enough idea about it,  for me, I would go and write my seed phrase on steel before the Earthquake.

I think the best bet is to note down the 24 words from hardware wallet on a pc or device that never connect on internet and make an archive with a password protected and put it on a cloud service or on email and if have and extra word added to passphrase to keep it in mind so can recover it and also even if someone get pass for archive they can't recover wallet without extra word.

privately in a secret location in a house, garage or dog shed!

With Stainless steel thick enough it wont corrode and will survive a fire.







There are still a lot of people who think that storing private keys online is ok,
thats very risky business, holding back a word from the seed is only marginally
hampering an attempt to crack the code.

Storing them on a computer not connected to the web, what if the hard drive gets
corrupted?

Paper wallets are good, a lot of people use them, but for me it seems too fragile.

My lump of heavy duty SS fixed to a secret place is my preferred choice.

You don't have to buy cryptosteel you made mentioned, why can't you just grab a stainless steel and write your recovery seed on it, safe from fire, water and bad environments too

Everything is a form of marketing, we the common people think of writing the recovery seed on a sheet of steel. In future this will surely get into business form when more number of people get into the cryptocurrency network. Natural disaster can happen anytime, and we can't stand opposing it. Taking prior precautions will help in overcoming the problem. I believe cloud based storage with increased security to be the right choice.

Crypto should never be stored long term on online wallets or exchanges because they are targets for attacks.

You should only have your crypto on an exchange when you want to trade and withdraw back to your desktop wallet immediately after the trade is complete. Only use an online wallet in an emergency and ensure it is for a short a period as possible.

It it would be hurricane, it would probably just fly away and the one who finds it would end up using the private key. Only thing that's good for is for fire and flood. I would use safety locker in the bank, that would also bring guards to the table to guard your box where the key is.

of course take precautions against that too, not to do so would be
thoughtless.

locker, these could also be set into a concrete floor or wall.

As your wallet value increases so does your level of security and safety!

You can store the private key online by adding some encryption by yourself. Thus, the password of the storage program may be the easier way to reach all your assets. Although I have never used it, there are projects in this market that offer decentralized cloud storage service. You can use one of the reliable one. IMO, solutions made by using non physical space to protect against physical damage make more sense.

the best way is possible if you trust a company that provides cloud services then you can use it. but it might be vulnerable if your cloud account can be accessed by others. but so far I only put information about the data that is on the flashdisk and books.

I don't recommend cloud services for storing your private key, it's still a company you are handing down your valuable assets there, a vault is one of the good alternatives you can get a fireproof vault, but do not put your eggs in one basket, it's always a good option, create at least two backups and also store it in a vault but they should be on a separate place.

Cloud services will be solution, as long it is really secure from hackers i think it will be ok. If me i back up some of my private keys, account, 2fa code in a notepad and put it in 5 flashdrives and i update it every 15 days. And then to save it i save it on separate place with plastic to be waterproof, and 2 of it i carry it everywhere in my bag. Don't know where else to save my data.

Woww...cryptosteel, never heard of it but seems to me like a pretty good idea. How much does it really cost anyway @OP and looking at its important i think it would be worth its price. Anyway if you are so much concern about your budget then i guess your best option is to hold your keys on several multiple places digitally and physically. Don't forget to give roadmap to someone you trust just in case the unfortunate thing happens.

We dont know when this would happened and we should always have plan for this kind of event. For a starter I think is have a storage for youre back up seed phrase so it wouldn't be wet or something.

Exactly. Actually we don't need that so called crypto steel why dont you just keep your altcoins and bitcoins online if you dont want it to be damage when natural disaster comes? Or you can keep it on the bank's safe much better.

Keeping your altcoins online is very risky.  We have seen several cases of hacks and frozen accounts.  If you do not hold the private key of your altcoins, it is not yours.  I would go to keep it on a bank's safe.

There's a lot of options to make it safer on this days of advanced technology. Once drive or google drive served as your online cloud storage, and this thing is very safe for our data and other crypto wallets. You can keep your private keys, and keystore files or even the paraphrase combinations needed for the access of your crypto.
