So bottomline, it is possible as it has already been done by several platforms. But they have some certain restrictions. We are already in the digital age so such transaction like this is very possible but we need to be alert on possible drawbacks like the viruses that come with it.
Yes it is although it sounds like old fashioned but who knows this thing could be our last resort if the internet goes down like there's natural calamity happened and there is no electricity that could run internet and satellites had also been down. Yeah? Just take some risk for virus tho. 😅
The virus will develop in such a way because there are many security holes in the Bluetooth protocol and can activate and send all available balances without us knowing, just by developing tricks of certain applications, all of them will be accessible and include seed and 2fa. If there are developers who can make it happen, the volume of usage will be far from expectations.

One implementation I'm thinking for such idea, if you have heard of HTCs phone running a full node, then transfers using bluetooth, consider having a wallet application for mobile phones, could relay transaction details to a full node, whether be it an actual computer with bluetooth card, or a phone running a full node, could make it easier to transfer Bitcoins even when you're offline. Like hotspots for you to conduct transactions, though security might be a concern from different weakpoints in the device, and the encryption of transfer of data.

you can also send bitcoin using smoke... it is just zeros and ones after all and a short smoke indicates zero whereas a longer one indicates one.
the "smoke", Bluetooth, satellite, radio waves, even SMS, ... and using the internet are just methods of communicating the same data between peers. obviously they all have their limitations and features. for example most of  the alternative ways have shorter range and sometimes rely on another centralized service and so far internet remains the only viable option because it is global and fast while you an transfer any big size of data such as the entire blockchain without any problems.

Bluetooth can't cover a large area, so I think it will be difficult. and I also don't think it will be possible because they have differences in the network, so far I have been comfortable with the blokchain network instead of having to use a local mobile network because it is not good enough in my opinion.

Bluetooth and infra-red covers a short distance and slow it would very possible to send bitcoin between two devices however the two transfer protocols are old fashioned and obsolete, technology has improved has gone beyond using those means  by having a better alternative and faster means of transferring bitcoin.

If you really want it complete decentralized then I think you should ask about how to transfer Bitcoin in a local wifi network of a device.?

If that is possible then the adoption of bitcoin will be a huge hit as shop owners can easily use it.

I've seen that it's possible to interact with the Bitcoin blockchain using mesh network antennas, satellites and even radio waves. This is great, because it further decentralizes Bitcoin as we know it. But I'm wondering if it's possible to send/receive Bitcoin over Bluetooth? Considering that most devices of today are powered by Bluetooth, it's much easier for anyone to interact with Bitcoin this way than using satellites, and other means mentioned previously.

Do you think something like this is possible these days? If so, how can I do this with my mobile device? Any recommendations or suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance Smiley

sending or receiving bitcoin via bluetooth or radio waves I think this will be a solution for people when experiencing difficulties when the government is centrally revoking internet resources, but for now if we see everyone still using the internet to trade bitcoin because it uses the internet network surely will be easier than via Bluetooth, satellite and radio waves.

I think that the transfer of Bitcoins via Bluetooth is not very convenient and may not even be completely safe. It is much better to use a QR code scanner. It is very convenient and much safer. And in general, the transfer of cryptocurrency is better carried out through a good stable Internet connection in order to avoid any failure.

It maybe possible but not reliable enough only small interference between two devices can make the transaction failed and if Im not mistaken bluetooth connection can only reached short distances like 10-15 meters so theres no important advantage of using this connection in any bitcoin transaction I think.

You still will need internet connection to send this transaction on blockchain. But if you want to just use device id instead of wallet address you can just use NFC/QR/BT/etc

According to the post below, its possible to use this near-field communication which is almost like bluetooth.

I wouldn't use this to send BTC unless there is no other way though. Internet can easily be accessed today because every corners today has signs of free wi-fi.

Airbitz wallet is one of the well-known have Bluetooth features to send and receive Bitcoin but it is only for Apple devices.
Look at this old article from here https://edge.app/blog/bitcoin-nfc-tap-to-pay/

It was implemented in 2014 and the Airbitz wallet is rebranding to Edge wallet which is one of the recommended wallets from bitcoin.org.

However, the only problem of using Bluetooth your device might become at risk to any viruses and your wallet might potentially vulnerable this is a well-known issue on using Bluetooth.

Read this well-known Bluetooth virus before that may affect your crypto wallet: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2172056.0

True. You are making transaction through mobile device so why not instead QR code, that's easy.

No, this might be possible but there are more risks than usual. Bluetooth can be used without internet, but the thing is, there are more other users who can see/receive/send or simply interact with the transaction as long as they are in a certain range of it.

I think it will be better if it can be done via WiFi instead of Bluetooth because Bluetooth is like a pretty shitty network and very week in that sense and ofcourse I would love if that is going to happen but I would prefer wifi over Bluetooth network.

It is indeed possible but there is alot of restriction when it comes to this. Bluetooth communication range is limited depending on the class you have, you can reach a max 100m/328ft as per google said on class 1 bluetooth devices which means you can't send bitcoin from very far way not even maybe another province from you. Plus bluetooths security,  the tech behind bluetooth is we can say a bit old even if its getting updated it just basicaly not a fit to be use as a medium in bitcoin transactions.

That would be the main restriction if we will try to imagine having transactions using Bluetooth. It's range is limited and due to this reason, it will be impossible to make transactions to one another from different location or overseas.

it will never happen, Bluetooth will not be able to help you use the blockchain and connect to the entire market. We need to have internet network for blockchain to work. Also the internet helps to link the whole world together, and bluetooth can't do it. This is a good idea but I am sure it will never come true

Anything is possible as long as there is some sort of means for data to propagate. However, I don't think that bluetooth is necessarily a very safe channel or an appropriate one for that matter for transaction data to be sent.

You need to actively be paired with a bluetooth device in order to transfer data, as opposed to something like NFC which is open ended.

The closest thing to bluetooth is the NFC tech that we've seen. We've also seen efforts to make bitcoin accessible through SMS networks and stuff like that. But honestly, with the internet's progression, it isn't really cause for worry.

Im not that computer geek but I think this is possible but close to being not possible. When we can store btc through offline method then we could possibly transfer btc in an offline method with the help of bluetooth. Im not sure about this but surely computer engineers and sciences have something to say about this. This will be a continuous progress of btc then.

If technology develops in the future, I think this might be feasible and used. But I'm worried about the security of blockchain as well as bitcoin because the shared bluetooth can be stolen and hackers easily attack. And for the developing world, the internet is the most important thing for us, and I think that blockchain as well as bitcoin just need the development of the internet is enough, everyone will have access to it

It might be good, honestly, but do we think bluetooth technology is really effucient these days? Because allot of issues concerning bluetooth connecrion are there, to transfer information, you need to pair it first which I find the difficulty in sending money. People might turn out to go back to traditional fiats if that happens so, I better consider retaining the ways we have right now and focus on making the transaction speed even faster.
