You may able to hire an investigator in real world more easily rather than looking for someone from here as I doubt how many of this forum members could be an expert in dealing such things. Private investigation will not be possible for most people here but it is an emerging business through out the world so finding a detective in local classifieds will be a time saving method.

I guess for your case, only a detective will not be enough but you might need a blockchain expert too along with a detective so that they may work together by helping each other. You may hire a blockchain expert from here for tracing out transactions related to your stolen funds.

I am extremely sorry for your losses. Please move your remaining coins into ALL new cold storage wallet with proper multiple back up.

The biggest activity vs merits ratio I saw here was 1:4 and I saw it only at nullius and at DdmrDdmr.

IndecentProposal will certainly become a great forum member, since his activity vs merits ratio is 1:50 Smiley

Besides, gizmoh may be a private Serbian / Croatian / Lithuanian investigator, who had no job for a long time and he became so happy after reading this topic which will help him buy a bread, that he gave 50 merits for that Smiley

I know the guy, he is due around 5 btc. Basically he sent coins to the wrong contact address. The receiver gave back some, but kept 5 btc.
I thought giving him merit would allow him to send PM, not the case though with newbie a/c.

If one gets credited a million dollars to his Bank account by error but doesn't completely refund it back, it is an offence. ( https://www.money.co.uk/guides/can-you-keep-money-accidentally-paid-into-your-bank-account.htm )

Is it similar case for Bitcoin transactions? I would think so..

How Ripple Rips you: "The founders of Ripple Labs created 100 billion XRP at Ripple's inception. No more can be created according to the rules of the Ripple protocol. Of the 100 billion created, 20 billion XRP were retained by the creators, seeders, venture capital companies and other founders. The remaining 80 billion were given to Ripple Labs. Ripple Labs intends to distribute and sell 55 of that 80 billion XRP to users and strategic partners. Ripple Labs also had a giveaway of under 200 million XRP (0.002% of all XRP) via World Community Grid that was later discontinued.[29] Ripple Labs will retain the remaining 25 billion"

Actually, OP mentioned that "a thief stole coins from him" and what you are saying is "OP mistakenly sent 5 Btc to a wrong address"?
Dosen't this look a bit contrary?
Also you being a legendary member should know that only merits won't help him to send multiple PM's per day but he would also need to increase his activity in order to rank up and uplift the restrictions of 1 pm per day.

What i can smell is, you send 50 Smerits willingly and now are trying to cover by selling some ponzi stories..
I actually am doubting, is OP account your alt?

Well he phrased his comment in a inadequate way, maybe because the receiver would read this.
I am legendary doesn't mean i know the inner workings of this forum.
Neither Op nor I are asking for anything ponzi-ish!

Okay i might agree you won't like to post regularly over here. No objections on it, but i still doubt why you'd send 50 Smerits directly to a newbie who too was registered in the same year as you were and was inactive since then and eventually came online today and made one post and you sent probably all of your Smerits to him??
Can you define your relation with him?
Do you personally know him?

And it's funny to read that you recieved a pm for buying your account today itself?? Roll Eyes Tongue
Anyways, i never mentioned your account would be tagged. If you are speaking the truth then why would you face any problem?? But you can prove your truthfullness.

It might also be a case of Merit selling?

Your 50 merit giveaway looks very suspicious.
50 merit is no right way to someones is allowed to send more PM. 1 merit is enough to rank up to jr. member and 10 merits to be a member. Even of that, they need to have more activity 30/jr. member and 60/member. It's around 2 months to be an active user of the forum.
If it's not your alt account as you say, maybe you can help with handling his communication

Frankly i didn't know this merit point was such a big thing.
The user "Rohan" is derailing this thread. And putting up accusations out of thin air.  I have a Clean slate & well off, i don't need to sell anything.

Besides, not the merits would allow him to send more PMs, but his rank. However, why do you think he would need to send PMs in order to get his funds back?

I know the guy, he is due around 5 btc.

How do you know him? He has only 1 post.
Besides, not the merits would allow him to send more PMs, but his rank. However, why do you think he would need to send PMs in order to get his funds back?

There's real life.
The receiver of the coins has an account on this forum, hence the need for him to send PM

If we go on good faith path - and I am on it - then, as a suggestion, wouldn't it be more simple if OP would have raised this issue in the Trading Discussion / Scam Accusation / Investigation board?

Besides, as a newbie, no matter how many merits he has, he is limited to 2 PMs/day, with a limit of 1/h. So he can send only 2 PMs in a day. Maybe it would be more helpful to him to try the following:

- raise the issue in the board above mentioned
- state the issue by hinself instead of you. Maybe there are users knowing the guy who received the funds by error and maybe they convince him to return them.
- buy a copper membership, which would grant him the privileges of a Member, although he would still be a newbie (from here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote). This membership would allow him to send more PMs (details here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2536728.0).
- another way, in order to avoid paying the tax for copper membership, would be to kindly ask theymos or other high ranked staff (Cyrus, for example), to whitelist his accout (details are also in the last mentioned link).
- finally, the user receiving OP's PMs should have activated the option to receive PMs from newbies. By default, this option is set to OFF, so no matter if IndecentProposal can send him 100 PMs or 0, the user who received the funds by mistake may not see even 1 PM from OP if he didn't change the setting regarding receiving PMs from newbies.

Besides all of the above, I'm asking again, why doesn't OP try to discuss here instead of you? Smiley

Anyway, I hope the above suggestions will help him.
