I am managing a few rigs for some of my colleagues and everything is going well with Phoenix miner mining Ethereum. However most of them have 4Gb cards while I see the epoch right now is 3.44Gb and I think won’t be long before 4Gb cards stop mining.Except that switching to Monero,is there any other viable option for these cards  or should I consider them done?

I'm not sure if you can mine Monero or any other coin with low memory card. But I'm sure it will work great on Cryptonight-GPU(Ryocurrency) the only algorithm that support low-memory/cheap cards. You can give it a try.

My bet there will be some kind of DAG solution if there is a 8GB card in the system.

I don't know if you like the idea, but a simple solution is to use Nicehash miner and let it chose for you, obviously for some costs
But when you see the profitable coins on nicehash, you can mine without the program

Yes.I am afraid this is the last resort for this cards or low dag coins.I am already running nicehash from quite sometime now.I think I will study on April what to do,my colleagues already have gotten their investment back so they can wait a few days with the miners offline until I figure out what to do.

selling the cards seems a pretty plausible solution for it
as the cards would not be able to mine eth
it would not be a good step to keep holding them on
and selling it before april will be good and many people will jump the wagon for it

You sure they will be obsolete in April? By my calculations its more towards the end of the year. Anyone know in the off-chance if ProgPOW goes live if 4GB GPUs will be able to mine it or is there some type of DAG size with ProgPOW algos? Never mined it before.

I guess its good for the 6GB> owners because there is going to be a huge difficulty drop. Wonder if any of the ASICs will be having issues also with the large DAG file. From what I read that first Bitmain ETH ASIC was limited to a 4GB DAG, any higher it would be rendered useless. However no idea if they made an update for it.

Like many already said, put a 8gb as first gpu and it should extend its use for some months more. There is still to be seen if 4gb will work with progpow. Funny, going back 2017, many said 4gb would not be a problem cause pos would be before 2021, at this very moment, still uncertain when pos will be deployed.

LOL XD Metroid you are not a miner so please shut up.

Use the internal GPU as first GPU and you don´t need this "fix" and this will extend your mining time by 1 or 2 weeks nothing more and only helps on windows.

You should consider mining Cryptonight coins especially Ryocurrency with 4GB card, as far as I know, Cryptonight-GPU is the only algorithm that supports low-memory/cheap GPU's. Give it a try.

It seems ETH is the only coin that can make profit with this card if you mine other coin 50% of your profit will drop.

I think much better to build a PC with this GPU and resell them with profit this is much better than mining other coins with this card.
Or find someone to swap your cards for higher memory or swap to Nvidia cards this might be better if the offer additional amount is cheap but if they are asking for high addition price well not worth it so building PC with this card is much better.

Solving blocks can't be solved without my rigs.

maybe it time to sell vga card in low price to gamer.

and buy new card with less power draw but more hashrate.

This is the correct answer.

Look for some 8gb cards.  Those 4gb are done.

Has there been any word from the ETH devs about what is going on with ProgPOW? Last I heard the audit went well for the hardware and software side. Then they refunded some money which was donated to do the audit and haven't heard anything since then and this was months ago.

I am actually holding a bunch of these 4GB for this reason. However anyone know how much GDDR you will need to mine ETH if it algo forks to ProgPOW? Is it going to have a DAG still or is it something completely different? Due to the low profitability I've never actually mined any ProgPOW coins. From what statistics I saw, it seems more for Nvidia GPUs however and AMDs seem to hash at a much slower pace, no idea if this was done on purpose or not since ProgPOW is suppose to level the playing field and since Nvidia costs more then it "should" have a higher hashrate than the cheaper AMDs.

Hi I'm a long term lurker but I have a question I hope you can help with. What are your thoughts on the rx470 Sapphire Pulse 8gb ram gpu 11266-66-20G, worth buying?

Apologies if there's a dedicated thread for this, but I saw some posts discussing the 4gb DAG file and I'm searching for replacement GPUs, everything I own is 2gb and 4gb
