Proposes to enable these features for temp-ban users

I've just been freed from the shackles of a temporary ban. This is my stupidity (I missed a sticky rule on the bounties board), sacrificing my account for only .003 ETH giveaway from a bounty thread. I couldn't do anything for 7 days, unable even to send merits and report posts. Only came to read and wait.

I'd like to propose to enable these two features for temp-ban users. Although I have no plans to get banned again forever, at least these two things are the form of contributions to the forum during the ban for anyone.
Hope my proposal can be considered and granted.

Your proposals are enabling sending merits and posting bounty reports while you are temporarily banned? If yes, then I don't see the point of banning users. Temporary ban only means you are not banned permanently. You shouldn't be asking for other privileges.

I find the proposal to send merit quite strange. Can you not just wait until the ban lapses? It's not like your sMerit will decay. IIRC, banned accounts were able to send until admin changed that.

The persons who want to take part in developing / making this forum better, aren't getting banned. The idea behind temp ban is to paralyze you on this forum for a while, it's like a punishment you know. You should just wait.
I think they may not add the features that you suggested cause it's form of activity.

I think those two features don't need to be enabled. if you are prohibited from giving merit and reposting it is one of the penalties for you for violating forum rules.
The rules of the forum are not to be refined, but to be obeyed, theymos have also thought about it.
The forum does not require contributions from banned members. It's better to sit quietly, all you can do is wait until the tire expires.

People are getting banned for a reason so they aren't allowed to do any such tasks then only they will realize their mistake and come back with better behavior and also allowing them might result in abuse on merits

A ban serves its purpose, which is to restrict access to your account. It defeats the purpose if you could still report or send Merits to it.

Besides, those two are abusable (not saying they apply to your case but you get the picture)

The forum has different ways of punishing accounts which breaks the rules, one of them is a signature ban where one loses signature privileges. I don't know if this can be permanent, but I've come across a couple of temporary ones. A ban is explicit, and is meant to block one from participating on the forum in any way.
If other privileges were added then it's not a ban rather a posting limitation.

How can you report topics/posts even if you do not know the rules or do not abide by them, if you know the rules or abide by them then you will not be banned?
As for Merits, I do not see any objection to sending them if you are banned.
Generally, the ban is a temporary period and I do not think that it has a high priority feature to enable it.

7 days will pass through very fast but even with longer temp-bans, such as 14 days, or 30 days, I still don't feel too convincing reasons to activate the right to send merits or report posts.

• Temp-ban warning should be strong to play its key role as warning for rule-breakers: If restricted rights to temp-ban are too little, there is not much difference between temp-banned users and non-banned users. Then, do rule-breakers actually realize mistakes they violated and avoid same things in the future?
• Paranoid: People tend to easily fall into paranoid for the first time they get anything. In this case, temp-ban. They might paranoid to use their sMerits wrongly, selling, ie. or fall into revenge the forum (by spam reports). Moderators don't need to have more work-loads from temp-banned users.
• More things (maybe) but only these 2 above are enough to not allows those rights you suggested.

Actually I could, but what happens is I forget where I had to send my Merit at that time. With free conditions like now, I don't think much about this anymore because I'm back to normal. You can see the history of my sent Merit, it's not much. And I'm sure many members out there have this habit the same thought to spend their merit before the ban occurs. My hope, by getting a temporary ban, the remaining Merit will be spent which might not be done otherwise.

I'm not sure, those who are banned have a variety of ability bases. Contributing to the forum isn't just in the form of direct activities, there may be a temp/perma-ban member who tries to explore the forum entirely until finds bugs of the forum.

Yep, this is a valuable warning at the beginning of this year. And at least I've told 2 things that can't be done by temp-ban members besides sending posts and messages. This might be useful for members who actively do these thigns to be known so as not to experience the things that I experienced

I've reported 74 posts with 98% accuracy. All sub forums have their own sub rules.
Are all rules always permanent without additions and changes? certainly not.
Have you read all the rules in all subforums as soon as there are changes? of course not too.


This is just my simple proposal, and maybe this proposal will not be accepted by considering more cons.

Forum doesn't moderate the abuses,it is the work of DT members so it gives more work for them.I am kind of person who think "Prevention is better than cure".

I do not agree completely with your proposal. A ban person is usually the one who did some mistake and he/she should be completely deprived of all the rights , making his account "Read Only", means that he should not be able to do anything. Also if we agree on your points then it will create extra work on developers to implement this change in the forum.

No need necessary to activate this feature. I believe it's just the same problem went "merit source" out of their merits, so they cant sending any merits went they find a new valuable post/thread. Saved/bookmark the link was already a good option for this case, waiting until the "temp ban" was over then you can be started sending the merit / report the post if the post still on there.

Saved the link, bookmark and make a list for the link already a good option right now. I believe "merit source" doing this, their start to send the merit from saved/bookmark/list link that they make went the sMerits was refilled.

I violated this rule according to the ban notification https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3953664.0 , and it's related to the rules pointed by ryzaadit that I who have replied the thread also got temp-ban.
But I can't predict whether the next ban on this violation will be increased.

I reckon it will. Repeated offences will see longer durations until a permanent ban comes along.

It's called a ban for a reason, BCT punishes you for violating a rule by removing your full access here in the forum so I really don't think they are thinking about the lost of man power with regards to reporting posts or circulating merits when they issue temp-ban on a member. Besides there is no one stopping you by bookmarking/saving the posts you want to merit or report too and going back to them once your ban has ended. Just think about the alternatives first before you even try to push a change that isn't even necessary in the first place. Also just by looking at your merit history you only have sent a total of 10 merits in a span of 120 days so I don't think losing 7 days of activity would really mean much to you.

I like the idea of allowing a temp-ban user to use the report to moderator function. Why not, especially in a time when they may be feeling badly for breaking the rules it might see some not many overcorrect to make up for it and help clear spam. This change would be seen as a net positive for the forum overall. Now if people assume one might be all pissy and make a bunch of false reports this could then be disabled or result in a longer ban, as recourse.

Sending merit is not something I would agree with. Mainly because some Temp-bans were for a significant length of time and carried with them a long term signature ban. A bad actor could choose to try and monetize themselves 1 last time by selling off their merit and then moving on.
