Either for your own amusement or for your unborn clones?

Do you diligently save sites, videos, discussions and previous software versions just in case they disappear from the internet for future reference? Is there actually any type of dedicated crypto archive out there? I'm not sure I can think of anything.

No matter what happens to the entire scene the impact it has made will be studied for centuries. I wonder how much information will be available to the curious in the years to come.

Here's the only snippet I ever bothered with. It took several hours of waiting but was a moment well worth preserving if only for my wank bank.

i have a bunch of versions of bitcoin core and electrum saved up as i had downloaded them at the time and now am only storing them for historical reasons.
sometimes i bookmark some topics or comments on bitcointalk to look at in the future like the 5 BTC faucet topic. one that would be very relevant to this time (since we are getting closer to halving and the drama is starting to grow) is this topic, there might have been better topics to bookmark but this is among a large number of them that were practically claiming that bitcoin will die after the halving as miners leave. it is laughable today although sometimes you see the same arguments start up again!

I usually don't do that. because I know that no one here can make accurate judgments but myself. I only usually read news that have a big impact on crypto such as SEC, bitcoin halving, ETC hard fork, ... which is the news that I will read and execute buy and sell orders to make a profit. archiving really has no benefit in a market full of manipulation. Because the value of bitcoin is controlled by manipulative organizations and historical data cannot say anything.

I never do record any website but I have maintained an excel sheet and I do record stuff I like there. Stuff like some good quotes or technical things related to crypto. Rest there is no need to record any predictions as almost all went wrong.

Does it carry any special importance for your own purpose? If it is yes then you have to do it, for me, It's not an important thing because of every transaction or information automatically saved or preserved if you want, if you need the previous transaction then you would get by searching the history of anything, so this one is not necessary saving, again and again, Basically, I am using Coinbase, Binance and the other one so every information I am getting from those systems and every information is automatically being stored and saved. that's why I don't do anything regarding this issue.

Google probably did this. Or even better, one of the national agencies out there. They need to archive them for intelligent purposes, and of course future surveillance.

I do not see an open-source or public archive about this one but archive.org might be able to help you with some documents or books. Wayback machine would also have some data as long as they keep their database safe (which probably is with the cloud service).

I think that online services like Wayback Machine/Archive.org will save some crypto related websites that are gone.I'm not 100% sure though.I'm not interested into saving any cryptocurrency related websites, videos or articles.I guess that,if some sort of info is on the internet,it's going to stay on the internet forever. Either for your own amusement or for your unborn clones?

Do you diligently save sites, videos, discussions and previous software versions just in case they disappear from the internet for future reference? Is there actually any type of dedicated crypto archive out there? I'm not sure I can think of anything.

I have on my old laptop, almost everything is a discussions here in this community. But as far as Satoshi's emails and stuff, I think there are websites you already preserved it. I previously used archive.is, but for unknown reasons, it's no longer working on my end. I'm using http://web.archive.org/ now.

No matter what happens to the entire scene the impact it has made will be studied for centuries. I wonder how much information will be available to the curious in the years to come.

Here's the only snippet I ever bothered with. It took several hours of waiting but was a moment well worth preserving if only for my wank bank.

Yeah, for sure in the next decade or centuries, crypto or at least bitcoin will be in the discussions, it's effect, impact and how it shape the entire economic landscape of the world.

Well i find it too tiring just to think about it so no. I've already used and spent past btcs and i think it wouldn't have any effect on how i handle my assets in the future. Aside from the fact that i'm mostly going to see how much my assets dropped dye to bungling decisions. No, i'd rather live for today and tomorrow 😁

I don't have any record nor I preserve Bitcoin history by saving it on my disk.  I have them bookmarked so that I can go back to the site if I needed some information.  But this thread made me realized that sites are not forever up and available so I guess I will start saving videos, discussion and information with regards to BTC.

I have a pretty large collection of screenshots that I take from 2014 when I start to collect coins from faucets. It's not about something that is particularly relevant and important, but for me personally it has sentimental value. I think it's important to preserve some of your personal history, even though everything is available online today.

This is from time faucets pay 500 - 5000 satoshi :

In anticipation of halving 2016 :

I was not able to save the ATH before but this time I will make sure that i have the copy of the up coming bull run and i will show that to the haters of bitcoin. It’s goo that you have the best bitcoin history and looks like you’re here for almost a decade as well with bitcoin? Researcher will surely make a study on how bitcoin change the world financial system and I’m so excited for this.

I agree. Im pretty sure that lot of people saved it so why do I need to saved in myself. I can search it to get information if I want. But having collection of records about bitcoin was really helpful because you will know the status of its value.

We dont actually need to save a compilation of videos and texts about bitcoin or even the crypto world because we are now living in the 21st century meaning to say we are in the technology era right now. Even if we dont have any record we can still find a lot of this through internet most especially about the bitcoin and the crypto world.

Guess you mean "unborn children". Clone sounds a bit creepy.
Well, I think archived things are best stored decentrally. Am not too comfortable with the centralized solutions. But I still manage them for now.
There are couple of decentralized alternatives am not sure work today. I have used one few times but don't think it's something I can depend on too.  Others are not very easy to use.
One of my most reliable ways of storing such things is having very important ones stored offline on my data storage devices just incase something happens to the internet.

I only save screenshots of photos when I first earn bitcoin in the signature campaign Komodo way back 2016, screenshots of HYIP and faucets where I earn a little bit of bitcoins, and photos when I cash out $4,000 worth of bitcoin, basically just those, didn't even bother saving sites because I guess I'm too lazy to do that or I just don't see them as important to be save.

And for all the bitcoin I earned, blockchain is always there.

I save a lot of history but unfortunately my laptop was lost at that time, unfortunately there are no important files in it, I want to share it here, I saved a lot there, including the price of ATH Bitcoin 2017 and others as well as other historical images including videos, but I recorded some to show later, I save and back it up for next year

I would be honest  I do that , take a screenshot and unfortunately I do take a lot of screenshots and then I end up loosing the news anyways. I can never scramble through that clutter !

:') But I think we already can find important events and news right here , you can check out the old topics and you will be able to see a lot of things that you would have missed , sometimes I go though them . Other than that I think the future is what bitcoins is all about .

I don't do that. I had a couple of screenshots that I found interesting back then, but honestly, now I have no idea where they are. If we're talking about 10 years in the future or something, I am sure that many websites would still be on. Those that won't be can be accessed by Wayback machine or something similar like joniboini pointed out. I also wanted to say that coinmarketcap has historical screenshots that go back to the end of April 2013 and then on a weekly basis up till these days. I like to take a look at some of them from time to time to see how much the market's changed and how unbelievable the prices were.
