Requesting additional option for the Bitcointalk proof of Ownership

Hello isnt there any possible way to prove our ownership of our account here in forum without using a non custodial wallet to do a bitcoin signing of message?

I know it's bit hard to think of another way since this system has been agreed already by majority and served as a norm just in case our account got compromised.

But there are some facts that we must consider.

• Signing a message here via bitcoin wallet is only available to those who have bitcoin core wallet and other supporting wallets that has signed message feature and how about those who do have an account here in forum but doesnt have resources to buy laptop and install those software and wallets?
• Proof of ownership is indeed somehow like of a KYC and way to know that we are the legitimate owner, right? How about, we do that on different process where the abovementioned statement is ruled out. At least, for those who have the same case with me.

I know I'm not the only one that have the same case. But if there's anyone here can suggest a way that isnt limited to the first reasoning I'd love to hear a feedback from you or any helpful recommendation.

If someone gonna say, maybe I dont have enough knowledge yet about bitcoin. Maybe your right but I think learning bitcoin isn't all about signing a message but also concern about deeper understanding to it. Also, this is an inquiry about forum protocols which I only introduced cause maybe theymos have an alternative to it which I'm happy to hear if there is.

You don't need a laptop - there are non-custodial mobile wallets, e.g. Coinomi (not an endorsement, I don't use it, just heard of it). You don't need to keep any money in that wallet. Just get an address, sign a message, stake it, and keep the seed/backup of the wallet secure.

Hello @suchmoon, thanks for the suggestion. I heard of coinomi got that feature but there are some who said that coinomi isn't safe and have a lots of error. This is one of my choice to do it but I'm still looking for other option or maybe the forum can accept some way to prove our ownership without much relying on this non custodial third party app. I know there are limited custodial wallet that has this kind of feature so if there is none much option. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I have been using it since last 4 years or so, it works good, just don't expect a hardware wallet level security. It's not open source either.

Not saying that safety isn't important, but don't overthink it too much as you wouldn't need to put in money anyway. All you need is to make sure you have access to the keys as so you can sign messages whenever you need to, and that's pretty much it.

Does electrum has already got signed in message using their web wallet or app? I already inquire with my friends and they say you need a laptop to be able to that as the signing message isn't supported yet.

I'm just hoping there is an exception to this process or any other method aside from doing signing message and staking address. Anyway, will try to sort it out which one I'm gonna use for that. Thanks for the input.

To prove ownership, we have some means:

• A stake message (with non-custodial wallets)
• Your logged IPs for the last 30 days (or longer). See at Retention/privacy info
• Posts contain Bitcoin address and quoted by the others (but if they are not stake message, the strength for ownership is weaker).
• Posting style (It is a supplementary only, much less priority)

• KYC, no, it is only for April Fool (we had it last year).
• 2FA, it is planned for the Epochtalk software.

Without them, the case of JusticeForYou (formerly BTC_Bear) is a very good example that the forum's account recovery works well. Theymos' answer on the ownership of that account

Lots of ways to stake address.

Get a hardware wallet.  you don’t need to sign. save the seeds

give an address for your hardware wallet.

you don’t need to put a coin amount in it until you have a need to prove you own the address-account.

simply transfer 0.00000010 into the staked address then transfer it out.

use addresses within the same wallet. and make a 0.00000001 payment to do the transfers.

it is easier then a signature which all wallets other then a core wallet may not allow you to sign a message in the future.

every wallet address should allow a deposit and withdrawal.

this is the right way to stake not a message. as more then one wallet changes its rules later on when it came to signing.

i think no address lost the ability to deposit and withdraw.  other then if you lost your ability to acess the wallet.

remember. the address you stake has no need to have any coin until you need to prove yourself.

My apologies. I thought Electrum's mobile app by default has the message signing feature. Electrum doesn't have a web app by the way.

So the problem is the lack of non-custodial wallet for mobile phones and online?

Then use a no-balance mycelium's address as your staked address, keep it offline or backup its seed phrase if you want to delete the app.
You can sign to any of the three addresses of your 1st "HD account" (accounts tab) by highlighting (tap) it and pressing menu or '...' then click "Sign Message".
Select the legacy '1' address (recommended as a staked addie) then continue.

I think OP missed to read thread about How to sign a message?!, likely you will get instructions there how to sign message from android phones. I believe most of users use android phone, so it would be easy for them if they could sign message from their phones.

Anyway, to prove ownership anonymously best option is sign message from your bitcoin address. Also it would required registered mail for recover account. So both is enough and strong evidence to prove ownership of your bitcointalk account. KYC will never implement for this forum, so sign message is the best option in my opinion.

Thanks @nc50lc and @Coolcryptovator, I guess mycelium will be a good solution for signing a message as the tutorial seems shows the procedure.. Thank you for both helping out. I'll try this out. Will locked the thread now to avoid same response as those youve told I think is enough.
