Just a while ago, while in a bookstore browsing for new books, I came upon the shelf intended for bestselling books. The topmost rack did not interest me at all. But when I came to the third rack, I was surprised to see Don and Alex Tapscott's book Blockchain Revolution among the bestsellers. I suddenly wondered how in this half-urban half-rural city in a developing country, a thick book about the blockchain technology hit the bestseller category.

While still a bit stunned by this curious revelation and having it slowly sink in me, I continued browsing through the books. Little did I know that I was up for another surprise. At the bottom part of the shelf, another book caught my eye. A book by Michael J. Casey and Paul Vigna, The Age Of Cryptocurrency: How Bitcoin And The Blockchain Are Challenging The Global Economic Order, is also one of the bestsellers. And not only that, while the other book still has a few pieces left, Casey and Vigna's has the display the only one left.

Not that I underestimated the people in my place and their interest over it all, but I was just surprised because aside from the scams using Bitcoin/Cryptocurrency and the shallow small talks about it going on around, I have never heard of local individuals who are seriously hungry for Bitcoin/Blockchain/Cryptocurrency knowledge that they could make these thick and probably boring books local bestsellers.

This for me is one solid proof that Bitcoin/Blockchain/Cryptocurrency is now really seeping through the awareness of the people. I am now curious if you have also encountered something like this, something that surprises you at the same time made you realize that indeed the time has come, that Bitcoin/Blockchain/Cryptocurrency is already here. A story from developing countries is especially interesting.

Is this from NBS? I am not into books and rarely visit the books section of that store (NBS). I was wondering if they were accidentally put in there by another passing customer but seeing there are more than one Blockchain Revolution book in the shelf made me realize that it's for real. Did you happen to ask from their customer service how many books were already sold?

This is from a Fully Booked Store in one of the Ayala Malls in the country. By the looks of it, I don't think it was just accidentally left there by someone. Besides having three Blockchain Revolution books in that shelf, they are well arranged as you can see. When I was there, there were only a few of us. The tendency with the malls here is that there were much fewer people during weekdays especially during work or school hours.

I did not have a chat with any of their staff but for sure a handful copies won't make any book in that store a bestseller, although I didn't notice if there is also a bestseller section for fiction. I've just noticed right now that in that particular bestseller shelf there is not a single novel or fiction that is included.

Now I am wondering what kind of store it is and where is it. You're saying that the top shelf did not interest you, but it surely interests me to see a book on philosophy, even though one written in popularizing style, being among bestsellers. As a philosophy major myself, I rarely see people interested in educational books on philosophy, and I've never seen one being among bestsellers in my own country (Harari and Peterson are usually there, but not something like Philosophy 101)... And Blockchain-related books are very surprising to see there as well, of course. Is this in the Philippines? It seems like a very special store to me.

Ayala Malls is one of largest shopping mall retailer in our country and it is by no surprise that most of the Financial Books has been tagged as "Bestsellers" probably because of the location.

Most of the Ayala Malls in our country resides in places where people are well financially educated, business owner, a stock trader or simply rich. Tagging crypto related and blockchain books as one of the "Bestsellers" in that particular place is not surprising at all. The good thing here is that there is an increasing interest to this new technology.

I hope one day, I can get a copy of one of those books. It is tiring if you only read a digital copy of a book. LOL

Isn't it that the Philippines is trying to be one of the crypto hubs in Asia? So it makes sense to me that you will find books around about Blockchain technology and everything related to crypto this 2020. So I will not be surprised if there is also a full blown interest around the country, and who knows, maybe some students are going to pick up that book, shows interest and be one day a leader.

Probably its about time for me to also explore our local book shops to see if we're really coping with the rapid changes in the world - crypto and blockchain.

I didn't know that these books were being sold in bookstore in my country.
Is that Ayala Mall located in Solenad? I never saw Fully Booked Store there. National Bookstore kinda lacks a lot of variation in books even if it comes to my own field, that's why I don't expect that there's gonna be more into it.
There's quite plenty of books in Booksale though. I think I might give it a try to look into blockchain-related books next time I go out, plus the price of books is quite nice there unlike NBS.

I think that it is a good thing that cryptocurrency is slowly getting injected into mainstream finance, that only means that there will be more people that will be curious and their interests piqued. This could spell an increase in the bitcoin prices but there is one problem in the Philippines, there are only few people who read books and these people that has interest in these are rich people, the Philippines has a very low financial literate people and this will only mean that the rich will continue getting richer but that thing is not my business.

Yes even where I live right now we have the option to pay in Bitcoins online in some stores , this is Preety amazing considering few years back , Bitcoins were banned and now they are making sure to expand it's horizons.
I hope soon enough we will be able to buy the pizza with Bitcoins here ! That is not yet available.
As a person once said *Bitcoins is the Currency of the future* Whosoever adopts it first will be able to establish stronger immunity in the future regarding this sector.
Even I have started accepting Bitcoins in exchange of goods and services .
Hopefully all will go well .

It's not only to the offline books, the interest about cryptocurrency and blockchain is growing in internet too. See the last 30 days trends below,

Search term: Blockchain

Search term: Bitcoin

Definitely a positive sign towards more adoption.

it is a curious thing that the interest in bitcoin and its technology grows each time the bitcoin price is rising like these days. i believe the main reason for such books and search increases is for profit making. if we look back to the biggest recent interest which happened during 2017 we can see that majority of those who came in had zero interest in the technology and only learned it to scam people with things such as ICOs.

There is a FOMO brewing...
